Abacá is an airy, atelier-style restaurant with a cool outdoor terrace, whipping up Filipino-Californian cuisine with flair in Fisherman's Wharf. It's the bricks-and-mortar spin off of chef Francis Ang's pop-up Pinoy Heritage. The lively menu is split up into barbecue sticks, noodles and rice, and small to big plates, but its far more nuanced than just that. Flavourful dishes pull from family recipes and are glazed with modern and heritage technique to result in a vibrancy that's hard to come by. It's grounded by local produce. Smoked Bay scallops lead in the seafood pancit, heirloom tomatoes top homemade tinapay bread, chicken skin is glazed in an adobe before hitting the grill and guinea fowl comes slathered with peanut sauce. A truncated list of creative Southeast Asian libations bring it full circle – if you're on the terrace, cool off with the Baguio breeze slushy – a dreamy mix of pandan-infused vodka, coconut and strawberry.

Another fabulous night at Gary Danko! This is the place to go to celebrate something special. The resaurant is beautiful: beautiful flowers; beautiful art; beautiful table settings; and well spaced tables, never making you feel crowded together. The food is amazing: you choose 3, 4, or 5 courses with several selections in each couse category (we selected 3 courses but started with Golden Osetra Caviar, which has an extra charge, but is well worth it); there was 5 in our party and each of us raved about our individual selections; everything is made with the freshest ingredients; and the food is beautifully plated with just the right size serving. The bar and bartender are terrific and the wine list is extensive with a sommelier that is simply, "the best." The service is outstanding: warm and friendly; helpful and accomodating; each course is timed perfectly; attentive without being intrusive; and very knowledgeable and professional. It is an expensive evening but worth every penny.

We absolutely loved the food and the service at this wonderful restaurant. We had some special dietary request among our group and they were so kind and so accurate and so accommodating. We ordered the tasting menu and the amount of food we were served was incredible. And not just in abundance, but delicious And lovingly presented. When you go, don’t miss the pork belly! And the halo halo ice for dessert.

My wife & I went for dinner before a show at Cobb's Comedy Club and chose an Italian restaurant convenient to the venue - Luisa's Risorante. We were there at 5:30, plenty of time for dinner and to get good seats after at the show. After our pasta course was served at dinner, the head waiter helped a senior citizen up the steps and past our table as she headed to her seat at the window. As she passed, she said, pointing at my gnocchi with meat sauce and my wife's lobster ravioli, "I make that!" and walked to her seat. Could it be Luisa? After hearing her speak to the wait staff by name, I was certain. I had to go over and let her know we enjoyed the fruit of her labors. I shared that I was about the same age as her restaurant. She responded with feeling that she had not opened her business at this location--she didn't own the building. "!" She had started sharing her home-style Italian dishes with "only the best ingredients" in the Sunset District, far from San Fransciso's North Beach (our Little Italy) where her restaurant is now a fixture. She's still going strong at 95! I suppose we can chalk her continued vitality up to eating 'only the best ingredients' for a lifetime. Cheers to Luisa and wishing her many happy returns to the best seat in her own restaurant. And, her gnocchi, ravioli and Ceasar Salad were all fantastic. I'd be happy to return to sample other items on the menu.
