Judith is a new American tavern pairing warm hospitality and the cooking of James Beard Nominated Chef Julia Sullivan (Henrietta Red in Nashville) located in the quiet area of Sewanee, TN near the University of the South. The name is an homage to Judith Ward Lineback, the first woman to matriculate into the University in 1969.As Sullivan’s first solo project, Judith will feature a seasonal menu of creative and approachable dishes including a selection of small, shareable plates perfect for the bar crowd. The beverage program mirrors the food with accessible wines and a cocktail list created by Henrietta Red's Beverage Manager Patrick Halloran.The warehouse-style building, previously the Old Steam Laundry which serviced the University since the 1950’s, has additional space for private dining and parties. With the goal of becoming a meeting place for students, faculty, tourists and the Sewanee community alike, the restaurant will be open for dinner from Thursday - Monday.

Several years ago, I decided that my future in the restaurant business would most likely not remain in the realm of fine dining and gourmands, but would rather lean towards the style of restaurant that I found myself frequenting most often - places that provided consistency and quality at a price that was fair for the quality of the food and experience. Public House plays to the comforts of good, solid food, while applying the principles of premium food products to a more casual setting. You will find all the fish is delivered from Foley’s in Boston, high quality steaks and a rotating selection of vegetable sides that are true to the region and season. Lovely dinner treating some Sewanee graduates. The chicken dish was delicious but way too much food. Could have easily shared it. Brought half home. Would love to get smaller portions.
