Abacá is an airy, atelier-style restaurant with a cool outdoor terrace, whipping up Filipino-Californian cuisine with flair in Fisherman's Wharf. It's the bricks-and-mortar spin off of chef Francis Ang's pop-up Pinoy Heritage. The lively menu is split up into barbecue sticks, noodles and rice, and small to big plates, but its far more nuanced than just that. Flavourful dishes pull from family recipes and are glazed with modern and heritage technique to result in a vibrancy that's hard to come by. It's grounded by local produce. Smoked Bay scallops lead in the seafood pancit, heirloom tomatoes top homemade tinapay bread, chicken skin is glazed in an adobe before hitting the grill and guinea fowl comes slathered with peanut sauce. A truncated list of creative Southeast Asian libations bring it full circle – if you're on the terrace, cool off with the Baguio breeze slushy – a dreamy mix of pandan-infused vodka, coconut and strawberry.

Food was great. Always love this place. Our favorite is their Cioppimo. One comment though, even when we had booked the reservation through open table, the hostess was trying to seat us at the bar area. We wanted to seat in the main dining room. She pretended to say that a table was getting ready to leave. Should be a 10 minute wait. She finally sat us and the main dining room was wide upon, of course it was 1pm on a Monday. That was quite baffling.

went here for my partner and i’s 8th year anniversary and was not disappointed one bit. everything about this place was amazing! from the hosts, to the wait staff, the food, the drinks, and just the over all vibe. the food was spectacular! it was so hard to choose what to get, so we did the chef’s choice option. you can tell the chefs meticulously chose the right ingredients that matched well with classic filipino dishes without losing its “filipino-ness”. it felt like home but a much more elevated and modern way.

Food is ok. Small servings for the price. The mussels were close to $20 for 9 tiny mussels. The fried food has too much breading for my taste but depends on what you like (we had Calamari and fish and chips). Also had Caesar salad with chicken, linguini with clams which were excellent. Clam chowder in bread bowl which was ok ( you get a better and bigger one at Paneras or Boudin’s).
