Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducass

    We all ordered the shrimp burger with pasta salad. We all thought it was amazingly tasty. From the asian slaw to the shrimp burger and the aioli sauce on top. It was delicious! Our server, Matt, was quite attentive!

    Had a lovely dinner. Great server Amy. She knew the menu and made great recommendations. My husband had the seafood special. I had the crab cake. Loved that I could get a smaller portion of a single crab cake. The crab dip was great. Very nice dining in a tourist area.

    Transportation issues delayed our reservation time and the Le Yaca staff was more than happy to hold our table for a late arrival. The restaurant was full of folks enjoying an early holiday meal; we were seated in one of the restaurant’s smaller and quieter rooms. The menu was expansive, the price fixe choices were outstanding and each course was prepared and presented perfectly. This restaurant is a gem!

    Stephen was wonderful! Very attentive, articulate, and knowledgeable. Our 15 month old son loved him. Food was wonderful! Atmosphere was wonderful! Would definitely recommend to anyone who is interested in history and loved a good meal. The soup was delicious, dinner was second to none, AND the desserts were delicious! It is a must when in town.
