Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducass

Dinner was fantastic! We came to have dinner with my parents (they met here when my father was a server in the early 90’s) as a very early 30th wedding anniversary present to them as I will be living abroad with my husband for a few years and we wanted to celebrate them before we left! It was such a wonderful experience, I grew up always hearing about my parents meeting and how my dad enjoyed working there so this was finally my chance to go with my husband. The food was delicious! I had the Cornish Hen on a bed of mashed potatoes with veggies, my husband and my father had the Prime rib, and my mother had the Stew. Everything was delicious and had good flavor. Highly recommend the Fizzy Lime punch it is truly delicious and refreshing. Also the peanut soup is surprisingly delicious, it really does taste like peanut butter but it’s warm and filling! For dessert we had the snow eggs, the chocolate tart, a slice of pecan pie, and a scoop of coffee ice cream. I highly recommend visiting Kings Arms Tavern as not only was the food delicious but the waitstaff was kind and friendly, they also give you a bit of historical information throughout the meal, and we even had this musician come in and perform for us (a tradition that happened even when my father worked there in the early 90’s). Our server was really sweet and in true Williamsburg fashion, actually went to high school at the same high school my mom went to around the same time and knew some of the same people! It just really made for a fantastic night and a great last fancy meal with my parents before my time away for travel. I cannot recommend the Tavern enough. The food is delicious, the environment is good, the staff are friendly, and to dine in a restaurant as old as the tavern is a really unique experience.

I visit Williamsburg often but this was the first time I dined at Cochon on 2nd. I'll definitely be back! Our server, Kieran, was very attendant and friendly. The menu was diverse but not overwhelmingly large. I've very picky about my crab cakes and the ones I had at Cochon were delicious! I also enjoyed the goat cheese salad. The decor is very cozy and warm. My ONLY request would be for an option to have a cappuccino at the end of the meal.

My wife and I drove down to La Yaca from Richmond. It was her birthday and we wanted something special. We decided to order our meals a la carte for no other reason than there were items we wanted on the appetizer menu and the dessert menu. My wife had the green salad, onion soup, crab crepe and the apple tart for dessert. She loved it all. I had the vegetarian salad and the scallops both from the appetizer menu. Then I had the poached peach for dessert. All were extraordinary. This was an excellent meal and all things considered a reasonably priced one for food this well prepared and presented. There is not one thing that could have been better. Thank you La Yaca for a very enjoyable evening.

We enjoyed the ambiance with music and candle light! The fried fish and chicken were delicious along with the apple pie and truffle. We’re from Louisiana so the food wasn’t seasoned to our taste but it was a true Williamsburg experience. Thank you Christina Campbell host.

Our lunch experience was excellent! A, our server, was very professional and efficient and kind. Kudos to her!!! The food was delicious, and as a lunch special, was nicely priced. It was a quiet day in the restaurant, which made for easy and private conversation. The booth we sat in was comfortable and provided nice scenery outside. Thank you, Berret’s!
