This is where it all started – on the banks of the Rappahannock River overlooking where we grow our oysters. We like to call Merroir a “tasting room,” just so people know to expect something different. Everything is either served raw or cooked on an outdoor grill, small-plate-style, and beautifully paired with craft brews and world-famous wines. Each menu item is singularly-focused, seasonal, and ever-changing, so there’s always a surprise in store.

Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducasse.”

Our first time at SALT & MEADOW since the remodel. What a lovely place you have built on the bones of the Chesapeake. The dining area is spacious and full of light and the staff, particularly Lucia, our server, were friendly and efficient. We love coming to the Tides for special occasions. This visit was to celebrate our 36th anniversary and we had a great time.

Fascinated by the cute decor dedicated to the dental practice that previously had this building. Cute and tasteful. We regularly eat salmon, but the key lime crema kicked it up several levels. EVERYONE working in this restaurant was personality plus. Great experience as we celebrated our first date 37 years ago! Thanks for everything.
