Booked 15 times today
Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion - whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work. Our menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal classics that come and go throughout the year. We put care into our vegetarian dishes too, including making our own tempeh, falafel, and veggie patties from scratch. Menu items change frequently--usually every day--and reflect many long-standing relationships we have with farms and breweries in our region. In addition to reservations, we also have a thirty seat bar that is first come, first serve. We don’t know exactly how old the bar is, but it’s at least seventy years old (probably older) and very cozy. Our friendly bartenders are here to make something you like.

The two small plate pasta dishes were excellent. The only problem was that three first wines we ordered off the wine list were out of stock. The Maitre d offered an alternative white wine from north central Italy above Tuscany that was good, different, but went well with our meals. Overall we felt well taken care of.

The food, ambiance and service were very good. The tuna tartar starter was excellent, and it was probably the best PhadThai I ever had. I will definitely go back there.

Eleven serves perhaps the best tasting brunch in Pittsburgh. Our party of four shared most dishes so we all tasted a wide variety. Some of the highlights: Appetizers Short rib and egg - best dish of the morning Smoked salmon - best I have had in Pittsburgh Sticky bun - embarrassingly good. The embarrasment came from people licking utensils like they were crack. Beignets - very good though the sauce is the highlight. If you have to choose between sweets, go with the sticky bun. Mains Asparagus omelet - fantastic Roasted chicken salad - the name is a bit deceptive. There is chicken and a salad but it's not "chicken salad". Thant's okay because the roasted chicken was perfectly cooked - juicy meat and crispy skin. The beets were heavenly. Prosciutto cotto - exceptional - slightly better (in my wife's opinion) than the asparagus omelet Pro tip - ask for their homemade hot sauce
