Essence is a casual restaurant that serves French cuisine using seasonal ingredients. Chef Shiro Naito opened the restaurant in 2010 to provide dishes that celebrate the essence of each season. Essence is conveniently located next to Inokashira Park and Ghibli Museum. Its spacious dining area provides tables for guests and a private room for special occasions.     A wonderful find….the set menu was a great value and excellent. I generally avoid multi-course, fixed price options as they tend to have too much food, food that is not well prepared and/or food that is too finicky/fussy. This was an exception. The portions are perfect, the flavors outstanding, the preparation perfect without being ‘fussy’. The service was aLeo excellent and unobtrusive. The restaurant interior looks a bit forlorn, but the cheerful atmosphere and the excellent food more than make up for the simple, plain decor. They have a very good wine selection at reasonable prices; however, the real draw is the food. Highly recommend.

    Essence was so wonderful. The food was delicious, with unique tastes and flavors, the chef was very friendly and attentive, and (most importantly) my girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I was really enjoying the bread rolls ... and as we were leaving the chef offered us a fresh loaf to take home! Just an all around great experience.
