Wonderful experience! Came here for a late dinner. We had an outside table facing the water and beautiful boats. There was live entertainment ( not too loud) and a great breeze off the water. The server was great, upbeat, friendly and had good suggestions. We had the specials including a halibut seviche appetizer , pan fried halibut over risotto with a lovely sauce and scallops with a mango salsa over an arugula salad with grapefruit. Everything was super fresh, and flavored with fresh herbs. For dessert we had the crème brûlée cheesecake which was fabulous, Get the bread service , fresh baked ciabatta comes with 3 spreads; olive tamponade, olive oil and this amazing pecorino crème fraische! Service was very prompt. It’s also just a short stroll ( couple blocks) away from all the noise of Bowens wharf

Our first visit to The Mooring for lunch at the conclusion of our visit to Newport... wishing we had found this sooner! We will return The food was outstanding and generously portioned. Highlights were fresh oysters from the raw bar, seafood fritters with maple aioli, clam chowder, seafood pasta and fish sandwich. Everything was better than expected and some of the best of any dining experience in New England. Many offer seafood; very few get it right...at The Mooring, everything was PERFECTLY prepared. My wife is NOT a fish eater but selected the cod sandwich...it was a very sizable portion of cod expertly pan seared. The combined seafood in the pasta dish was fantastic - lobster, shrimp, scallops all just right! Even standards like NE style clam chowder and ubiquitous French fries we a step above everything else we've tried. Service matters and The Mooring gets it right. Our server, Lisa, was amazing -- proactively suggested favorites, offered advice on items selected, was highly attentive, engaging...near perfection in my book. The entire restaurant buzzed with professional and courteous service personnel, clearing dishes, delivering food, attending to patrons. Management was present, observant, asked about our satisfaction, even helped bus some dishes. We have dined on five continents and coast-to-coast in the US...The Mooring really had its "A game" going during our visit. We will return and recommend to anyone looking for excellent service, expertly prepared food and a pleasant harbor view in Newport, RI. Thank you!

We got there early and were told to come back at 5 to be seated and came back when we saw other people being seated before 5. But after that weird initial incident, things got better! Our waiter, Manny, was amazing and made the perfect recommendations for my whole family. We had Calamari to start with and it was delicious and had an Asian fusion twist to it which was amazing, then my husband and I had the 40oz special so the steak was split into 2 and ordered 2 sides, mashed potatoes and lobster Mac & cheese. Definitely coming back bc Manny and the food were all around amazing!
