The long established tradition of Afternoon Tea has been wonderfully preserved at Ashford Castle since 1868 - you’ll notice the original silver tea set displayed in the Connaught Room, which was presented to Lord and Lady Ardilaun to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in 1896. With spectacular views from the comfort of the castle’s elegant interior, take your time to savour every delicious moment. Food was fantastic, especially the barbecued carrot. The revamped menu was a bit odd. My meal (beef tartare, bbq carrot, financier) was balanced and delightful. Hubby had tempura gambas, lamb and chocolate dessert: latter 2 were both quite unnecessarily huge portions though equally delicious. The chef is apparently still the same as in the days of West and can obviously cook and source good produce. Hopefully they will refine the menu and trim the 'more is better' items.
