General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream.     Finally got to try this place out - mostly out of pure laziness to make reservations in advance. However, from the moment we arrived it was pretty damn smooth. We were here for our 4th year anniversary. I had requested some bubbles be on the table when we arrive which they called to confirm beforehand and accommodate. Our server was very knowledgable and awesome. Guided us through the menu, made some killer recommendations and we had their sommelier recommended a bomb bottle of white wine. The Ham croquettes were phenomenal, the sardine on bun was so buttery and soft, the ceviche was fresh, light and zesty. We finished with the octopus last which was kind of my least favourite but maybe because I don't eat it too often so I don't know where it supposed to be but overall was still great from a neutral stance. They were attentive and nice. Thank you for making our night memorable and fun!

    The food, service and server Nandia made our evening of a birthday and anniversary celebration very special! She has such a lovely personality, her smile lights up a room and we love coming to Mamakas for the food and the amazing waitress! Will definitely recommend ! Thank you!

    Thank you for another excellent business lunch! Service was friendly, attentive, and efficient. We enjoyed both a favourite, repeat dish (Penne all’Arrabbiata) and the PEI mussels in white wine sauce. Appreciate you, La Vecchia!
