Kokkari (pronounced “Ko-Kar-ee”) is a small fishing village located on the islands of Samos in the Aegean Sea, whose name is derived from the small onions that were once produced in the nearby fields. Its fertile soil and Mediterranean climate translated into an abundance of fresh produce as well as treasured seafood and game. Legend tells that Kokkari is the site where Orion, a mighty hunter and a young man of gigantic stature and great beauty, fell in love with the daughter of the king of Chios. For the love of her, Orion forged the island for wild game and seafood to prepare elaborate banquets in celebration of their love. Today, we hope you will enjoy your own celebration as you dine at Kokkari Estiatorio on food “fit for the Gods” prepared with an Aegean palate and the style of innovative California fare.

We’ve wanted to come here for years but despite living just a few blocks away could never score a reservation. With luck, we found a same day reservation on a Sunday and were seated almost immediately when we arrived. This was the best prime rib and one of the top meals we’ve ever had. Their food and cocktails are more than generous in their portion and delicious! Beyond the food, the service and atmosphere were excellent and quite the bargain given it is San Francisco. Baffled how anyone could not rate this place a 5.

Really enjoyed Dalida. Three of us shared the following: The pita bread that comes with three dips plus olives and pickled vegetables. The pita bread is house made, so quite different from pita bread seen in many restaurants, and is delicious. Kayseri manti: mini raviolis/dumplings that have lamb and which are served in a tomato based sauce - excellent. Saffron Tahdig -amazing! A friend of Persian heritage makes this and I’m not sure if I’ve had it in a restaurant before. It was perfect- maybe as good as my friend’s Tahdig. Stuffed pepper- also good. This was plenty of food for the three of us. We also had a bottle of Albariño from Spain which was very good ($60). The Wine list looks very expensive at first glance but on paging through it we found bottles at around $60.

My partner & I had a lovely evening at Greens. We can’t believe it was our first time! We’ve been attending work period at Tassajara (he for over 30 years and me for almost 2 years) and we’re so glad we finally made it in for a special dining experience. The food was delicious, atmosphere calming and serene, but what put this place on a whole other level was our amazing server, Cara Leigh! She was incredible. Instant warmth and glow about her. Super knowledgeable about the menu. Even if the food was so-so…we’d come back just for her! She is a gift to Greens and I hope everyone knows how lucky they are to have her. In addition to her top notch service, all the staff we encountered were extremely attentive, professional, and very friendly. Thank you for such a special evening, Cara!

Excellent experience (meal, ambiance, service) all around for lunch. Server gave us fantastic recommendations on food and drink. My wife and I both felt it was one of the best restaurants (if not the best) we've ever been to. We can't wait for the chance to go back again.
