Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducasse.”

Sunday brunch at Le Yaca is a dining experience. From the beautiful decor to the white tablecloth service to the impeccably prepared food, it is a pleasure to dine there. Brunch offerings are special with many items not available during the week. They include 3 variations of eggs Benedict, featuring filet mignon, jumbo lump crab, house smoked salmon, and/or ham plus a nice variety of other entree choices using premium ingredients. The prix fixe brunch starts with a mimosa, warm dark chocolate croissants and crispy baguette, followed by soup or salad, then a choice of entree and house made desserts. Although they were busy, the food came out cooked perfectly to order. Le Yaca is a fine dining experience not to be missed when in Williamsburg.

The atmosphere is great and fits colonial Williamsburg. The lettuce salad to start was as good as I have had since eating one like it in Provence as crazy as that may sound - so fresh and tasty. The fried fish was great - no grease at all and ditto for the fried chicken - clean oil and the right temperature to cook. The spoon bread was a pleasant upside surprise.

We had an amazing experience! Love the ambience, candlelight, guitar player, and the food and drinks were phenomenal. I highly recommend the beef steak. It seriously was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. We had the King’s Arm punch that was brought to us in a punch bowl and it was delicious as well.

"What an incredible dining experience! From the mouthwatering beef tenderloin to the pink-coated chef who treated us like royalty at the carving station, every bite felt like a taste of perfection. Julia our server was an absolute gem, chatting away and making us feel right at home, she's extremely good at her job. And that themed cocktail with Gin and St. Germain? Oh, it was like sipping on sunshine! The view of the river from our window seat was simply breathtaking, and even the manager swung by to ensure our happiness. With over 20 years in the biz, I've gotta say, this was top-notch. Easter tradition? You betcha!"
