Our team includes a farmer, a published author, a baker, and a sommelier, in addition to the usual array of chefs, bartenders and service staff. To turn out our menus, we have on-premises, programs to: Bake all of our own breads (including in-house grain milling) - Extensively ferment and pickle vegetables - Grow and harvest a large percentage of our produce - Hand craft a full line of pastas - Smoke meats, vegetables - Produce a full range of pastries, ice creams and plated desserts.

Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion - whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work. Our menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal classics that come and go throughout the year. We put care into our vegetarian dishes too, including making our own tempeh, falafel, and veggie patties from scratch. Menu items change frequently--usually every day--and reflect many long-standing relationships we have with farms and breweries in our region. In addition to reservations, we also have a thirty seat bar that is first come, first serve. We don’t know exactly how old the bar is, but it’s at least seventy years old (probably older) and very cozy. Our friendly bartenders are here to make something you like.

We had the focaccia and baba ghanoush. Both were delicious, and the olive oil for dipping that came with the focaccia was lovely. We all had the seafood linguine, which had clams, squid, crab, salmon, and shrimp. The seafood was perfectly cooked. The only downside was out of about seven clams two of mine were closed and three of my dining companion’s were closed. I mentioned it to someone. Had the tiramisu and chocolate gateau for dessert, both were fantastic and much larger than I expected. The dining room is really pretty and the staff was all friendly and nice. Definitely would go back.
