The Broadway Oyster Bar is a locally owned and operated establishment and has been for over 35 years. The Oyster Bar is widely regarded as the premier New Orleans' style restaurant, bar and music venue in the Midwest. BOB, as it is affectionately known by its many fans and friends, is housed in a building that was built in the mid 1840's and is one of the oldest buildings still in daily use within the city of St. Louis. During its colorful history, our building has had many functions including a family home, a boarding house, a Chinese laundry, a record store and a bordello to name a few. These walls have heard and seen it all. Some people feel that the building is haunted by spirits who, occasionally late at night, play good hearted jokes on the staff such as doors suddenly opening or closing or lights going on or off as if by magic. Then again, it just could be because the building is over 170 years old. However, our historic building has just gone through a renovation so we now have two outdoor patios that are covered and heated during cold or rainy weather and an expanded kitchen to better serve you. Our food has won numerous awards and readers' polls for excellence and features some of the most sustainable seafood available such as fresh Gulf and Blue Point oysters, Louisiana crawfish and shrimp, Prince Edward Island mussels, scallops and crabs. Our Cajun and Creole dishes are our versions of many of the traditional Louisiana favorites. If you love New Orleans, you will feel right at home at BOB. BOB offers live music twice a day every night of the week except on Friday when we feature one act for the evening. We present the best local and national touring acts representing a variety of musical genres such as rock, reggae, bluegrass, blues, funk, R&B, roots, and jam, and weshowcase a wide variety of bands visiting from New Orleans. The live music is free up to 8 times per a week. However, for some of the more popular and well known acts, we do charge a cover which typically goes to the bands in order to keep attracting them to the BOB. Broadway Oyster Bar has been referred to by many as a staple of St. Louis and was recently honored by the St. Louis Chapter of the Missouri Restaurant Association as the 2015 Restaurant of the Year. BOB is a great choice for a relaxing dinner, a celebratory party or an opportunity to dance to a great band. As well known food writer, the late Joe Pollack, once wrote, "There is, quite simply, nothing in St. Louis quite like the Broadway Oyster Bar". That line was written over 30 years ago, but it is as true today as it was then. Welcome to the Broadway Oyster Bar Family.

My wife's birthday was on October 2nd (when we were there for our dinner reservation). We arrived promptly at 6:45pm and waited 3-5 minutes to be greeted by the hostess at the front desk right at the entrance to the restaurant where she took us to our reserved table. There were 4 of us in the party and we all ordered house water for drinks, with one in the party getting 1 glass of wine as recommended as a pairing with the meal by our server. We each got our main courses and our table of 4 split 2 sides (we did NOT get dessert, but they did give my wife a beautifully rich brownie and vanilla bean ice cream "on the house" for her birthday which was not expected but greatly appreciated). As to be expected, like with the majority of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants, after taxes and tip, the dinner for the 4 of us cost $400. Unless noted on the menu EVERYTHING is ala carte, so expect to pay $100 per person at the barest of minimums unless you are just going for drinks or an order of their wonderful Truffle Fries (which are to die for btw). Everything we ordered was excellent, the menu crafted with such mastery that each flavor and texture on every plate were very much on purposefully placed there for a reason. If you are afforded the opportunity and have the disposable finances to give this place a try at least once, definitely do so.

Our waitress was very good. She kept our plans in mind while we were dining. She got us out the door on time. I appreciated that because we were enjoying ourselves and had forgotten to watch the clock. Food was excellent. Our water glasses were dirty though. Could have been a fluke. Definitely going back.

We visited Charlie Gitto’s to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This restaurant was recommended to us as being top notch, and after reading many of the reviews, our expectations were quite high. From the moment we arrived we were impressed with every aspect of this establishment. The restaurant is a lot larger than it looks from the street and we were seated in the large room towards the rear, an area that houses a number of tables. We were greeted by our server, Wendy upon seating, and her easy manner relaxed us immediately. Her professional approach and knowledge of the menu were outstanding. Guided by review suggestions, we chose the toasted ravioli as an appetiser to share, followed by lobster ravioli for her and veal marsala for myself, all great meals. Dessert was necessary being an anniversary, and the carrot cake and cannolis were tasty. A glass of wine and a beer rounded out the evening. The restaurant was quite full even for a Monday night so it was a little noisy, but not rowdy. Overall, great food, fantastic service and atmosphere, at reasonable prices for a restaurant that has been listed as on of the best in St Louis. It gets our tick of approval.
