Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion - whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work. Our menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal classics that come and go throughout the year. We put care into our vegetarian dishes too, including making our own tempeh, falafel, and veggie patties from scratch. Menu items change frequently--usually every day--and reflect many long-standing relationships we have with farms and breweries in our region. In addition to reservations, we also have a thirty seat bar that is first come, first serve. We don’t know exactly how old the bar is, but it’s at least seventy years old (probably older) and very cozy. Our friendly bartenders are here to make something you like.

Brunch was wonderful. Enjoyed the salmon appetizer with cream cheese, egg and capers. We ordered traditional Eggs Benedict, shrimp and cheese grits, monte cristo sandwich, a pancake and a guava mimosa. Couldn’t have been more pleased, They initially seated us in the front table near the wisteria but it was a cold day and every time the door opened, we were blasted by cold air- we requested and they obliged by moving us upstairs. Coffee cups were kept full and hot. It is a bit pricey but as the adage goes “You get what you pay for”. Excellent

Gale, our waiter was terrific, his service was spot-on, and humor appreciated! The food was delicious as usual. I really enjoyed the grilled octopus for an appetizer and Papardelle pasta with lobster and sundried tomatoes. My meal was topped off with the chocolate bread pudding with raspberries ["I think"]. Casbah is always a no-brainer when I want a special meal, in a setting where I can share conversation with friends.
