Melbourne Hwaro Korean BBQ is a place where one can fully enjoy that authentic Korean taste. Located in the CBD the restaurant is always full, even on the weekdays, as the smell of the BBQ floats down from the terrance stopping people in their tracks. Just like mother used to makeTaste is something Hwaro is particular about. Taste is what owner and chef Eunsook Kim is mostly concerned with. Her dignified and somber character, reminds many people of their own mothers. Kim herself is essential to Hwaro. The preparations for all the meat and sauce available at Hwaro are handled by Kim alone. This includes supervision of the slicing of the Karubi (boneless short ribs), and preparation of the 23 different ingredients* needed for the hot pepper Sangyu Pusaru seasoning. Nearly all of the seasonings lined up on the tables are Kim's own creations.

Doju 〜 a combination of Head Chef/Owner Mika Chae’s hometown Jeollanam-do and Meju, a fermented, Korean soybean block. Meju is the first step for making a number of Korean dishes like doenjang (Korean miso), ganjang (soy sauce) and gochujang (chilli paste). Paying tribute to its lively past, Alexander Bar is named after the original owner of the hotel first built on the site in the 1880s. This was reincarnated in 1926 as The Hotel Alexander. Alexander Bar is now the elegant ground floor attraction at The Savoy Hotel Little Collins, infused with a rich history. Famous guests could once be found here during the jazz era and beyond, sipping on cocktails while listening to the easy sounds of crooners sharing the scene. The space has recently been refurbished in a contemporary Art Deco design, honouring its origins. The bar, encased in marble, showcases bold geometric patterned carpets, linear angled pillars, full-length mirrors, and classic tray ceilings, complemented by soft lighting.

From the moment walking in we were greeting by the my charismatic manager. Dom took us through everything, was incredibly knowledgeable but also genuinely interested in caring for they're guests. The dining room is really something special, the Doju team have created something magical and it shows. Menu is super seasonal, showcasing stunning produce that you'd only experience through the seasons from local growers. Chef is incredibly talented and passionate, you can see that in the food and how much care is given. Wines were amazing, great choices and there was nothing to fault. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect evening out. Thank you Doju team, Dom, and Chef Mika! You all made such an positive impact on our experience. We look forward to dining at your restaurant again.

It was our first time having Korean bbq, the staff took over helped cook the meat in the best order. We found it very tasty but you really need the sauces and kimchi to add flavour to meat. We did find certain cuts a bit tough, other was nice and tender. It was a fun experience.

I had a quick dinner with the wife here on Wednesday which is steak night. The steak was a decent size, cooked perfection, soft and tender served with salad and chips for $26 in Melbourne, CBD is pretty good value. The only thing that I didn't like about the venue is the noise upon the station as we ate outside in the sports bar. Little tip. Try get a table inside if you can. But overall a decent quality steak and size served with a decent amount of chips and salad. Good quality for at fair price
