Restaurants near Alvarado Park

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Selby's, and I would highly recommend it for special occasions or upscale comfort meals. As a self-proclaimed "shorts" guy, I made an effort to dress up in a button-down shirt, smart jeans, and dress shoes - and I'm glad I did, as the atmosphere is certainly elegant. The service was top-notch, with friendly and approachable staff who made us feel welcome throughout our meal. While the food was delicious, I wouldn't say it was exceptional. I opted for the tuna tartare, beef Wellington, and peach pavlova, and each course, including the amuse-bouche, was pleasant but not particularly memorable. One note to keep in mind is that the restaurant's location on El Camino Real can be a bit awkward, with some tables situated close to the wall and within earshot of traffic. However, I suspect most tables wouldn't be affected by this. Overall, I would return to Selby's, but I would stick to the pre-fixe menu, as the additional charges for certain items didn't quite justify the extra expense. Nonetheless, Selby's is a solid choice for a special night out or a fancy meal in a sophisticated setting.

The Lobster Roll was delicious. The Butterscotch Brulee and the Chocolate Chip cookies were exceptional! And our waitress Sophie was really great! Even some of the other servers gave our Pam birthday greetings as they went by.

Truly outstanding experience at this new restaurant Any restaurant with a view of water to me already has three stars, and Hurrica’s location right next to the Marina gave it great views of all the Silicon Valley yachts (great food with a side of envy!) The dining room is new, hip and attractive. A large jellyfish aquarium makes it even more appealing. We also liked the open kitchen. We sat outside - there was a heat lamp and the staff offered to bring us blankets, although hey weren’t needed. The food was exceptionally good. We highly recommend all four of the dishes we had: the milk bread (amazing dipping sauce), baked Miyagi oysters, salmon carpaccio, and (drumroll, please) the surprise star of the evening…the roasted mushrooms We went on a Wednesday night, and it was absolutely packed. Word is out! To that end, service was a bit slow (hence the 4 stars), but we think this was due to the huge crowd, a busy server, and our sitting outside. That said, EVERYONE was cheerful and friendly and seemed to very much care about our having a pleasant experience, which we did. Please stay away from this restaurant- we don’t want to have difficulty getting reservations for the many times we intend to return.

First time using OpenTable. Chevy’s was really busy on a Friday night. Employees tried their best on this hectic night.
