Lanai City Bar & Grille
Best place on Lanai, really super people - Sheri was GREAT
First, a member in our party uses a cane. We parked in handicap parking in front but could not find a ramp at the main entrance. My 93 year old Mom had to walk up steep stairs. At check-in hostess said there was another way in in the back. They should put up signs and add ramp at main entrance. The "back" entrance really is a service road. We sat on outside patio and heaters were nice. Dinner started with a bowl of free goldfish and shrimp chips. Felt like a child's snack. Our eggplant hummus appetizer was not any good. My husband and Mom enjoyed their sweet corn soup. We then waited one hour for the rest of our meal. Our waitress (Teresa?) did a good job and apologized many times. It wasn't her fault the kitchen needs to move things faster!! Mom liked her harvest salad. But the other entrees the mahi mahi and a mackerel fish special were tasteless and underwhelming. It is so dark on their patio you can't see the food you are eating. I had to use my cellphone light while eating to avoid the many bones in the mackerel fish. Our dining experience was very disappointing and for what you pay, food should be way better. The best part was the musician (John Cruz) singing that night on the patio. You can sit inside with better lighting but it was air conditioned so too cold. The renovated decor is very nice including their fancy Japanese style toilets. But we will not return on future visits to Lana'i.
Food was bad. Cocktail was good. Enjoyed the live music!
Excellent restaurant in a town of any size, but it is especially amazing that a restaurant of this caliber is available in a small town of ~3200 people and not part of the Four Seasons property. It is conveniently on site of Hotel Lanai—which, incidentally, just went through a beautiful updating. The night we went they had live music. They do have outdoor seating, but it was not in use the evening we were there due to weather concerns. Strongly recommend.
We celebrated a birthday with dinner at the Lanai City Bar & Grille, very glad we went there!
All 4 of us agreed the food equalled or exceeded the meal we had the previous day at the Four Seasons.
The service was great, we appreciated the friendly and helpful staff, and enjoyed the very pleasant atmosphere.
We will definitely return the next time we visit Lanai!
Went up to celebrate my sister's birthday and memorial of her passing and the staff brought out a cookie with a candle and sang Happy Birthday in her memory. Great food even better staff and a great place!!!
Food and service were delicious. Would love to see a bigger, more diverse wine list with a few more by the glass options. The music Saturday night was a real treat as well.
Delicious! We returned to the Hotel Lanai after 20 years last weekend. We brought my 84 year old mother, our 20 year old daughter, for a weekend on Lanai. We started our dinner with Washington State oysters, fresh and tasting of the ocean. Mom and I had the local venison, lightly seasoned with cloves, cooked medium rare, and placed over Japanese pear slaw. The meat was not gamey, and was extremely tender. Our daughter tried the mahi mahi, and loved her fish. My husband ordered the surf and turf, with Hawaiian lobster tail--both the steak and lobster were flavorful and tender. For dessert, we tried the apple crisp--plenty for four of us after such a great dinner!
Great experience. Friendly staff, excellent food, good choices for vegetarians and wonderful music
a few suggestions: when serving cream with coffee, spoons should be supplied. When serving bread/pastry samples, small plates should be supplied. when serving syrup, again, a small spoon and small plate for underneath should have been supplied, which allowed for messy drips. otherwise, all was terrific.
Just a bit loud when entertained by local musicians but we still love it
The historic hotel and restaurant is beautifully remodeled. The prices are outrageous for the food quality that is presented. The ingredients are good and recipes seem interesting, but the preparation is amateurish. The food is luke warm, and the overall finish is not professional.
The server was very good, but too busy to greet us upon arrival. We stood at the host stand for several minutes, before a cool acknowledgement. We never saw any type of manager; the server was very alone. The food runner was not sure of which guest to place the correct order. We could not get a drink from the bar after 9:00, which was not mentioned to us before we were refused a desert liquor.
The music was professional, but exceedingly loud. We had to yell across the table to talk. It felt more like a nightclub noise level with bar food at fine dining prices. There is absolutely no justification for $85 per person. I’ll happily spend more than that if it is worth it. A meal of this quality is with about 25% of the cost. I do not look forward to returning to this place.
As always our experience was amazing. The service was prompt, friendly, and wonderful. The food was excellent. I would recommend the lanai hotel to anyone. A wonderful evening.
We spent more than $480 to take the ferry to Lanai from Maui to enjoy lunch at Lanai City and it is not open for lunch!! Open table confirmed our reservation 2x before the trip over there! Thanks a lot!
We order 6 different dishes from salad to pasta, fries and venison, all was room temperature, no caring.
Music was so loud that all the customers was speaking louder to ear each other.
Not going back till a chef can take care of the kitchen staff, instead of talking in the dining room with guests...
Great friendly service
Fun alternative to Four Seasons and lower prices
Fish specials were excellent
Venison very good indeed
Gnocchis very good
Nice outdoor deck surrounded by Cook Pines
Incredible service in a sparkling clean beautiful space. The food and wine were delicious as we sat by the fireplace in chairs that made us feel like we were in someone’s gorgeous home. Must try the gnocchi!
Surprisingly diverse menu — very good selection. Ingredients and preparation was superb. Service was low-key, friendly, and very attentive. Good menu suggestions.
The nice city Grill is a neighborhood jam it’s quaint it’s nice it’s totally renovated wonderful bar good service fun food and live music on Friday and Saturdays
The grill is one of our favorite places fun to see everybody in the neighborhood good music good service good food and a wonderful setting highly recommend the grill
Service was great. The meat dishes we ordered (rib eye and venison ordered at medium rare) were tough. The fish was tough too. The surf n turf was great. Appetizers and desserts were really good. The music was also really good.
The exceptionally friendly service by the serving staff is the main positive. Food is ok and the noise level due to poor acoustics making it difficult for normal conversation is the main drawback.
Always good fun good service music on Fridays and Saturday.
The chef and staff are 5 Stars across the board. From service to the quality of the food and the ability to be attentive to requests and allergies was just above and beyond.
5 year anniversary. Meal was very good. Great atmosphere n staff. Only reason I held back a star was the beef short rib was a little under done... not quite fall off bone. This should not create hesitation for anyone to dine here... or stay at the lanai hotel. I’m just a sucker for fall apart, melt in your mouth short rib n this one was a little tough.
We were hoping to find another place to eat other than the Four Seasons and unfortunately we were quite disappointed.
The food was not well prepared or tasty. We started with the snapper tartare and the eggplant hummus. The tartare was good, not great. The hummus, was a beacon of what was to come - bland and not flavorful. We moved on to dinner and we ahi - overcooked and under seasoned and the accompaniments were not suited to the dish. The short rib was under seasoned (and by the way, none of us salt our food, so this theme was not our need for salt). The pork chop was also bland and lacked flavor.
The wine list was poor and limited.
The service was slow, far too causal and inattentive.
The cappuccino was served lukewarm and the desserts were much like the entrees -bland and not worth the price or calories.
Not a good experience and most disappointing because it left only two restaurants in the hotel for dinner.
The food is outstanding. I had the short rib which was remarkable. The compliments of onion and mushrooms are wonderful. The harvest salad that is made from aquaculture grown vegetables on Island just fantastic.
Amazing food and service, this place and the people are fabulous!
the menu is limited and the food not very good.
Lanai city Grill is a neighborhood restaurant absolutely outstanding for a fun night out Friday and Saturday they have music the menu is OK I recommend Lanai city grill when you’re on the island of lanai what oh he’s got to get arrested to
This is an incredible place that has it all! Mini sports bar, live music, cultured ambiance, the food was second to none and the service was the best I ever had. Too good to be true right? Yes, it is!
I had eaten at Lanai City Grill last year on a couple of occasions and absolutely loved the food and ambiance. They recently underwent a remodel so I had been patiently waiting for the opportunity to go back for a nice meal and see how the remodel turned out. We were seated outside upon request...the ambiance was wonderful and the band we saw during our dinner was great too. However, the food was shockingly disappointing. I ordered the cauliflower appetizer, which was great in concept but the textures and flavors were completely muddled and left us confused as to what we were supposed to be enjoying. I ordered the short rib entree and was completely DISAPPOINTED...the texture of the meat was horrible and it had absolutely no flavor. The sauce was GREAT but the meat had to have been improperly stored and/or cooked. I’m used to short rib falling apart at the touch of a fork and melting in my mouth with utter deliciousness. I had to send the dish back after two bites...also had someone else at our table try it and they had the same response. I then ordered the quarter chicken as a replacement. Once again the sauce was delicious but the meat was a touch dry and flavorless. The person who served us was very pleasant and we enjoyed her; however, she failed to clear plates and glasses from our table during her intermittent visits and so did the manager who stopped by to check on us. The level of service was not quite fitting of what would be expected here. I hate giving bad reviews, it pains me, especially since I had once loved this restaurant. I want so much for Lanai City Grill to succeed because we need this kind of restaurant in this adorable little town. I hope this review will be strongly considered by the chef and owner so they can correct the issues. I know the food can be better prepared and staff be trained to provide top notch service.
Kids menu was great. Loved the venison tenderloin. Wine list limited but some nice alternatives.
Char ribs too hard wasn’t appealing to my pallet..ordered half a rack which we didn’t finish..should have stuck with my first choice.. Steak Frites. Wine is always good! Fries seemed like they were sitting a bit! Much hotter and fresh the last time I ordered it. Other than that it’s our once a week go to dining place to unwind from a hectic day.
Nice brunch experience!!! Love the decor and atmosphere!!! However it would be 10 scores if only the service could be more prompt and efficient. Will come back:)
Haven't been there since they remodeled the place. Despite hearing some bad reviews about the food when they reopened. We decided to give it a go and try it out for ourselves. Glad to say that the food was amazing and we had a great time. Don't get me wrong tho, if you are looking for more of the traditional types of food then I guess you might get mixed up with what you ordered. But if you like trying new things and being open to food that not only taste great but also isn't your run of the mill dishes, then this is the place to try. Guess the only negative about my experience was a few of the server staff decided to talk Filipino behind us which we kinda was in a ear shot away from it. Granted I suppose it was a normal thing... but my fiance started getting a bad vibe after what seems like they were speaking about age and looking at our table.... weird huh... but anyways, great place and our server was awesome!
Nice dinner. Enjoyed the food and the facility. Thanks
Amazing, beautiful place on Lanai. Great food and even better service.
This was our first time here with the new chef Joel, and we loved it! The fried oysters were outstanding as an appetizer with a great mix of flavors. Also the ahi tuna appetizer was equally great with a delicious oil and flavorful wasabi “pop rocks”.
There was also a wonderful seafood pasta special entree and the local venison entree was also tasty. The live music that night was good, but a little too loud.
We are looking forward to returning as there were other items on the menu that looked good.
After exorbitant spending at the Four Seasons hotel for dinner a couple of nights in a row we ventured to Lanai City for a change of pace and a more local experience. We were not disappointed. Great appetizers with fresh local ingredients and our main courses were outstanding. I had fresh catch of the day and my wife had the specialty burger. Menu all looked so good, wish I could have tried everything. Do yourself a favor and eat here unless your into spending 300-400 $ a night for 2 people. I promise you will not be sorry you did.
