Lake House - Richfield Springs
The Lake House Restaurant is open 5 days a week. Chef Michael Gregory has recently taken over and is transforming the Lake House into a fine dining establishment! Please join us for a wonderful meal on beautiful Lake Canadarago. Built in the year 1843, The Lake House is one of the oldest continually operating establishments in the Cooperstown and Leather-stocking Regions. It has been the home away from home for guests from the Cooperstown and Richfield Springs areas for more than 173 years. Lake House includes a restaurant, tavern, lodging, and an expansive lawn and shoreline. Come enjoy a nice meal in the tavern, or outside on the deck as you watch the sunset over the water. Easy access, handicap access with off-street parking and handicapped parking with ramp. We look forward to your reservation!
Friday and Saturday 11-9 pm
Waitress had no idea what sherry was. Don’t know if she asked the bartender, but the restaurant has a “full”bar.
Wine list, such as it is, remains too limited.
The view is gorgeous. The atmosphere is quite strange. There is an enormous amount of clutter everywhere. When arriving it seems that you walk through their "business office" which is full of junk and very messy. When we left 3 people sat working at their computer and didn't say a word to as we walked out. The grounds have areas of old broken appliances and random items, reminiscent of a junkyard, making it hard to enjoy the ambiance. We were only 1 of 2 tables dining in the restaurant. Service by our waitress was great. The food was fair to good. We stopped counting after our waitress notified us of 5 different food items and 3 beverages that they were out of.
We were there for the HOF weekend. I had the lamb chops. There were only 3 and they were incredibly fatty and tasteless. I probably was able to shave off 7 or 8 actual bitefuls. The chops were $28 dollars and definitely not worth the cost. Service was not great. It took a while for our waitress to recognize us and she disappeared for long stretches. I had to go to the bar to order a beer and, after 15 minutes of waiting, searched her out and asked for our check. Also, the bright lights they have around the dining area attracted literally thousands of bugs. My dining companion and I each caught a mouthful while eating. The bartender was excellent.
Was a beautiful evening outside on the patio can't wait to come again.
Nice atmosphere good food great service. Waitress was very knowledgeable and really a nice person would recommend it and most definitely go back
We got there an hour before our reservation seated and waited on right away food was excellent waitress top notch made a great southern comfort sour. The prime rib was melt in your mouth and well seasoned.
Definitely worth going.Had rack of lamb.Cooked perfect.Homemade soups. Will definitely go back.I recommend it
The food wasn't bad and the staff were really trying ( they were friendly and attentive) but this place isn't what it used to be. The place needs a big cleaning up. When you walk in the whole front of the place looks like it's being used for storage. The entryway has items just everywhere. It's so bad you can't describe it. There are cats hanging out. There is a wine cabinet along the wall that looks very out of place. In the main dining room there's at least three different types of chairs, captain chairs that were used in the 1970s and 80s, folding wedding chairs and a third wooden chair . There are Christmas lights up around the curtains which are blown in at least three sections. There is furniture that they don't have a need for so it's just pushed into corners. One spot there's a very nice cabinet with the black desk and chair pushed against it and another table pushed up against it also. The deck is covered which is nice but it's covered with some kind a moldy green material that leaks. The lawn down to the lake must be where the action is because there is a large wedding / event tent , gazebo, outdoor bar, fire pit. This must be where the businesses is too. It was very disappointing to see no one there on a Friday night.
There were stray cats in the dining area. My wife and I are both allergic
. We were shocked to see animals in the dining area. We asked our waitress to remove them but she said they were strays, not the owner's cat and there wasn't much she could do.
Good overall. A few training and timing issues to resolve (e.g. soup lukewarm) but a lovely setting and friendly staff.
Fairly good wine selection at good prices. Ordered prime rib and it was so tough that it was inedible. Didn't bother sending it back as it was very inexpensive. Should have put two and two together and stayed away from it. I can't recommend this restaurant for dining, maybe just a drink or two on the lake listening to some very good live music.
Entertaining, mellow two-man band that understood what amplification is suited to the venue. Friendly, effective wait staff.
The service was wonderful and the food delicious but not overly abundant.
I personally like the Lake House due to it's historical history in the area. Technically it is off season the service was very fast because it was not crowded. I was here in season and thats not the case it gets very busy. The food was exceptional the chef came out to greet us she is one heck of a cook and you can just feel her passion for doing it. I will not hesitate coming back while in this area.
The place is really secluded which I loved the most. It's on a lake and that just makes the view even better. I will make sure to be back in the summer time so I can sit outside and appreciate the view more. Staff is amazing and Chris has a great place there, very welcoming-esk. Easily one of the top 3 places I've dined at in my life.
Atmosphere, scenery, service, food, staff and owners were all GREAT. A must visit for all.
Restaurant is in need of updating. Open wire hanging behind our table, flies through the restaurant, waited awhile for our food. Food was good, server was pleasant.
We had the Onion Soup, it was not tasty ,very thin broth, would not order it again.
Fish Fry breading was not light and in some hard spots in the breading that were to hard to eat.
My wife had the Chicken Marcella, the Marcella was very watery with not much flavor.
This was the second time we ate there. First time the food was good. That is the reason we came back the second time. Very disappointing this time.
Simply wonderful meal and atmosphere. We were in the area for the Hall of Fame Induction weekend activities but I would definetly like to return.
We went there with friends to kick off the Fourth of July weekend. Our group of four had scallops, prime rib and trout for entrees. All were delicious. And the desserts were even better, especially the larger than life profiterole. Service was good, view was scenic, all in all a great night out.
Went here last year and enjoyed Brought friends and was very disappointed,The food was good and prices fair The service bordered on terrible Ordered bottle of wine for dinner halfway thru asked server and was told"I only have 2 hands" The four of agreed that although the food was good probaly won't make the trip again
This is an interesting venue. The lake frontage together with nice summer weather is fun and picturesque. We sat outside which is always nice. As dusk approached, someone lit up about eight chimineas for lawn seating near the waterfront. There was live music from a keyboard player set up just inside which was enjoyable. We might have expected too much from the remote location of Richfield Springs but the chef worked at the Otesaga Hotel for many years so we had high hopes. The quality of the beef was lacking. The haddock was frozen. There are no vegetarian dishes on the menu which was disappointing. The side dishes and desserts were very good. It seems a shame to not provide the chef with better quality products if that's what is happening. I hope they can work out the kinks.
The food was mediocre and the service slow. Definitely not worth the near hour drive.
we had a wonderful evening celebrating a 40th birthday. The outdoor dining was fabulous....beautiful grounds....great set up for a summer concert with Showtime. The food was great....service warm and friendly.
Food was good. Clams & prime rib were very good. French onion soup was not. Location on the lake was beautiful. Service was very friendly. She even offered to go outside and take our picture in front of the lake. Decor was old and in need of updating but I still would give it a try!
Food was not good. Our fillet of beef had an after taste. Was sent back to the kitchen only to receive another fillet that had the same old taste to it. Salad was a joke and the soup was like warm. Wine list print is almost too small to read. The bread was r best part of the meal. The place smelled of oldness.
We had a wonderful New Year's Eve dinner at the Lake House. The service was very good and the food was fantastic! Looking forward to going again during the day so we can enjoy the beautiful view of Canadarago Lake.
Everything was great! We went there for my Birthday, and my daughter was so impressed that we will return for HER Birthday!!!
Love the place, the food, and the people that own the place. Been going there for the past 7 years and have made it a tradition to enjoy what the place has to offer year around....
The Lake House combines scenery with fine dining. Its restaurant includes a view to Canadarago Lake and its staff enhance that natural ambience with a touch of elegant dining, commitment and care to its customers. The menus features basics such as chicken along with steaks, seafood, custom salads and desserts by a well-known chef.
The food for dinner was excellent and the prices were fair. The quaint restaurant and deck were nice but could use some much needed upgrading without losing the ambiance of their era. Railing around deck was a little weak.
The place was exceptional, the entire staff and owners are super friendly
The panoramic view of lawn, lake, forest and sky is delightful, but I wouldn't recommend eating here. My main dish was a fish with a name I didn't recognize, but the waiter assured me it was a kind of sea bass. Well, no. Black bass, maybe--but on the whole rather disappointing, and perhaps not super fresh. The desert (a so-called apple-berry crumble) was inedible--I think they forgot to bake it. Mind you, the place is not exactly cheap, so I walked away quite disappointed.
By the way, the place is so out of the way that you might not find it without a GPS. . .
Went to this restaurant after attending the afternoon opera at the Glimmerglass. It was a sunny afternoon and the views of the lake were lovely. I have food allergies, and the chef came out and spoke to me personally, and then cooked my food to accomodate all my concerns, for which I was most grateful. Will be going back!
We went to this beautiful lakeside charmer after a matinee performance of glimmerglass opera which is only a few miles away. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day. Highly recommended.
Food was delicious. Could have been replaced quicker. Great service! Very attentive and personable.
