LagerHead is not your typical tavern; Chef Michael Toscano, a James Beard “Rising Star Chef” Semi-Finalist, inspires the dining experience at LagerHead Tavern. The name and décor for LagerHead were inspired by the indigenous Loggerhead Sea Turtle and the natural beauty of Hilton Head Island. Developed by Chef Toscano, the menu showcases southern comfort food with a twist, using fresh, regional ingredients and features signature items such as our House-Smoked Chicken Wings and the Low Country Reuben featuring in house pulled pork and smoked ham. The Grilled Salmon Salad is completely unique in that we use fresh grilled salmon that we prepare every morning. Fresh Grilled Oysters are also a Lagerhead Staple, shucked fresh per order and prepared using garlic butter and breadcrumbs for an oyster packed full of low country flavor!! LagerHead Tavern offers creative features and specials, Friday night come and listen to music by some of the islands favorites.

Lagerhead continues to be a favorite place for my husband and I. Great, casual atmosphere with extensive food offerings.
Love the coastal items for sale in the lobby.

Pretty dining room overlooking the golf course. Delicious shrimp pasta dish and a salmon dish. We’ve been there several times and enjoy our experience!

Restaurant within Hilton Head Plantation over looking the golf course. Was easily able to accommodate our party of ten with our Open Table reservation. Food moderately priced with a variety from burgers to seafood. Kids menu also available.

Our waitress, Claudia was excellent!!!! Considering for quite awhile she was the only waitress for the entire outside area of about 10 tables and because of no bartender ( she had to make and get her own drinks), she was very pleasant and efficient. She didn't complain or take it out on the patrons. Quodos to her and give her a raise or bonus!!!!!!!. The food was delicious and very creative - quodos to the chef!!. Live music outside while dining - not too loud and nice choice of music and songs. Management needs to hire more help.

The tavern was nicely decorated, but we didn't realize it was basically a golf course tavern. That said, our meal was very good and the service was excellent. It had a nice area for outdoor seating near the putting green. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back, but overall we had a pleasant experience.

Great Apres Golf Spot, even without the Golf!

Excellent menu and food preparation. All of our dishes were very tasty. Definately a spot to go back to when in the area!

Food was good. Pasta overcooked, calamari too salty and no descent moderately priced
white or red wines. It was either a cheap not good tasting wine or an expensive good tasting wine

As always, greeted by name, seated and immediately served with beverage of choice, (perk and knowledge of being known!)
Left alone to have a conversation & catch up with friends, ordered and served in appropriate time frame and food was delicious and perfect.

The food and service were very good. Chef had many imaginataive dishes on all the menus. There was a restaurant week menu which was very different from the regular menu - the appetizers and entrees were great. 2 of the party had those. The early bird menu was a spin off of the main dining menu but offered an alcoholic drink, salad and entree for much less than the main menu. 2 from our party had that. The only disappointment was the moise level - even the staff was offering apologies. There was a very large party by the bar that were very loud. I would go back and can't wait for nicer weather so we could be seated outside.

This restaurant is constantly changing. The steak was great but oysters and trout were not. Trout was over sauced. When we first went years ago it was great. Not so much now. Earlier in the week staff great. Later in the week terrible. Hit or miss. For the prices not really worth it.

the drink specials were very good and at a good price. Our party of 4 had three different items and were also good. The fish and chips crust was too heavy. Our server did a good job.

They should never have hosted New Year’s Eve. They were unprepared and the staff is just plain rude. The food, however, was delicious. Will not be going back. Too many other great choices in Hilton Head to waste my time and money on this place!

It was the worst experience ever. We are visiting from Ohio for the holidays and booked this through OpenTable. The place was set up with pre-set menu for New Years which was not advertised on the site at the time of booking.
The place was very noisy we sat next to the guy singing with a terrible voice. We waited 2 hours to get our food. Everyone was cranky. I asked the server if they can just get us some bread because we have been waiting a long time she said we have no bread today in a very annoyed way. Finally they got us some cut up toast.
When the food arrived the meat was not cooked and the green beans were dripping water. The dessert had 2 options mint cheese cake and creme B that was burned on the top. We were so happy to get our bills and leave. The 3 course meal was 35 dollars per person. Will never recommend this to anyone.

I booked my reservation through open table for New Years Eve because I liked what I saw on the menu. Imagine my surprise when we showed up and discovered that the regular menu wasn't offered. Instead, the only selections available were from a very limited menu for $35 per person. Did I forget to mention that there was NOTHING on the restaurants page indicating that the full menu wasn't available for New Years Eve? Rather than drive all over Hilton Head Island for an alternate place to eat, we decided to stay. That was the biggest mistake of the evening.

The restaurant filled up quickly and there were only two servers taking orders with one person running the food out to the tables. I guess they figured more servers weren't needed because of the limited menu and that one person could run food for several dozen tables. In any event, had our server bothered to ask just once how our food was, I would have told her that the spring salad was covered in far too much blue cheese and walnuts and was inedible, the prime rib I received was about 1/3 fat and the mashed potatoes tasted like they were dipped in some kind of onion sauce. The best part of the meal was the desert, but even then the desert hadn't set properly and parts of it were scorched.

The issue isn't the amount of money I spent. I would have easily spent that much money ordering from the regular menu. The issue is that it wasn't advertised as a limited menu night, and that the menu was ridiculously priced considering the quality of the food and the extremely poor service we received. If poor food and poor service are the leading indicators of success, then the Lagerhead Tavern is a 5 star success story!

For anyone looking to book at this restaurant, do yourself a favor, and look elsewhere. There are plenty of other local restaurants on the island and I'm sure the food and the service you get from them will be worth it.

You are so gracious and friendly. Always feel like I’m dining with friends when I come in! Also remember... excellent Happy Hour Daily!!!!!

We were with friends and wanted to talk and not listen to a loud singer who was not that good.
I generally like quiet restaurants that offer good service. We go there because of Claudia who always gives excellent service and the food is reasonable and good.

I love this place! I feel like I'm walking into "Cheers" where all servers, bartender and manager greet you by name and sometimes a hug! They are very welcoming! The food is really good and you can't beat the "Happy Hour" drinks and food, "Early Bird Menu" or the regular menu! Trivia Tuesdays and live music on Fridays, "Burger and Brew" Wednesdays, and other specials!!!! So happy you're "round the corner" from my house!

We wanted someplace new to try in Hilton Head. I liked the menu and made reservations for 14! We were immediately seated. To quote my family - "best cocoanut shrimp ever" ; " the meat on the ribs fell off the bone". In addition it was half off bottles of wine on Thursday. Views are of the Oyster Reef Golf Course . Had a kids menu, but no changing stations in the bathrooms. Be aware if you have young children in your party.

Food was good, but the service was terrible...very slow even during the initial drink order. We had a reservation for 14 people, and someone from the restaurant called earlier that day to confirm we would be there. I confirmed, and would have assumed they had the staff to take on this group along with their 'normal crowd'. That was not the case...from the initial greeting to drink orders, the service was slow and there were times we would not see anyone from the wait staff for 10+ minutes.

Love going to this restaurant and hoping they make it and don't fold. Fun trivia night, heavily attended, live music with comfortable duets and trios. Service is sadly lacking leadership. The servers who work there are lovely but having 2 servers and one of the 2 is bartending as well, on a Saturday night is pathetic. We waited 40 minutes for the server to come over and bring cocktails but still couldn't take our order. This was not incompetence on their part but they had to deal with a table of 24 people who decided they wanted separate check! There should have been a manager on site to work! I want this place to survive as I love going there but not sure that's going to happen when they are not able to take care of customers in a timely fashion!
