LagerHead is not your typical tavern; Chef Michael Toscano, a James Beard “Rising Star Chef” Semi-Finalist, inspires the dining experience at LagerHead Tavern. The name and décor for LagerHead were inspired by the indigenous Loggerhead Sea Turtle and the natural beauty of Hilton Head Island. Developed by Chef Toscano, the menu showcases southern comfort food with a twist, using fresh, regional ingredients and features signature items such as our House-Smoked Chicken Wings and the Low Country Reuben featuring in house pulled pork and smoked ham. The Grilled Salmon Salad is completely unique in that we use fresh grilled salmon that we prepare every morning. Fresh Grilled Oysters are also a Lagerhead Staple, shucked fresh per order and prepared using garlic butter and breadcrumbs for an oyster packed full of low country flavor!! LagerHead Tavern offers creative features and specials, Friday night come and listen to music by some of the islands favorites.

They should never have hosted New Year’s Eve. They were unprepared and the staff is just plain rude. The food, however, was delicious. Will not be going back. Too many other great choices in Hilton Head to waste my time and money on this place!

It was the worst experience ever. We are visiting from Ohio for the holidays and booked this through OpenTable. The place was set up with pre-set menu for New Years which was not advertised on the site at the time of booking.
The place was very noisy we sat next to the guy singing with a terrible voice. We waited 2 hours to get our food. Everyone was cranky. I asked the server if they can just get us some bread because we have been waiting a long time she said we have no bread today in a very annoyed way. Finally they got us some cut up toast.
When the food arrived the meat was not cooked and the green beans were dripping water. The dessert had 2 options mint cheese cake and creme B that was burned on the top. We were so happy to get our bills and leave. The 3 course meal was 35 dollars per person. Will never recommend this to anyone.

I booked my reservation through open table for New Years Eve because I liked what I saw on the menu. Imagine my surprise when we showed up and discovered that the regular menu wasn't offered. Instead, the only selections available were from a very limited menu for $35 per person. Did I forget to mention that there was NOTHING on the restaurants page indicating that the full menu wasn't available for New Years Eve? Rather than drive all over Hilton Head Island for an alternate place to eat, we decided to stay. That was the biggest mistake of the evening.

The restaurant filled up quickly and there were only two servers taking orders with one person running the food out to the tables. I guess they figured more servers weren't needed because of the limited menu and that one person could run food for several dozen tables. In any event, had our server bothered to ask just once how our food was, I would have told her that the spring salad was covered in far too much blue cheese and walnuts and was inedible, the prime rib I received was about 1/3 fat and the mashed potatoes tasted like they were dipped in some kind of onion sauce. The best part of the meal was the desert, but even then the desert hadn't set properly and parts of it were scorched.

The issue isn't the amount of money I spent. I would have easily spent that much money ordering from the regular menu. The issue is that it wasn't advertised as a limited menu night, and that the menu was ridiculously priced considering the quality of the food and the extremely poor service we received. If poor food and poor service are the leading indicators of success, then the Lagerhead Tavern is a 5 star success story!

For anyone looking to book at this restaurant, do yourself a favor, and look elsewhere. There are plenty of other local restaurants on the island and I'm sure the food and the service you get from them will be worth it.

As always food and service was exceptional. We had the Ribeye and rack of ribs. Ribeye (although thin) was cooked perfectly and meat totally fell off ribs! Very tasty!!!! Thank you Claudia and Tonya! You are so gracious and friendly. Always feel like I’m dining with friends when I come in! Also remember... excellent Happy Hour Daily!!!!!

We were with friends and wanted to talk and not listen to a loud singer who was not that good.
I generally like quiet restaurants that offer good service. We go there because of Claudia who always gives excellent service and the food is reasonable and good.

This is one of our go-to week night favorites! Love the happy hour, and you cannot beat the early bird (which is served until 8 pm on Mondays).

Haven't had a bad experience! Have eaten here many times and love going to a local neighborhood place where everybody knows your name! Food is great, ambience very nice and lovely servers and bartenders. Thank you for making it great Tonya, Claudia, Pat, Carole and Dana! You too Chris!
