Pear salad one of the best dishes I have ever had. Amazing service. Always a wonderful experience
Loverly room. Attentive, sometimes too attentive service. Limited menu options and the pasta dish wasn't to my taste. Partner's scallops were excellent.
I particularly like this restaurant for breakfast and private conversation. Food is great!
Excellent meal. Nice surroundings. Great service.
My wife and I celebrated our 29th Wedding Anniversary at the Lafayette Restaurant and was not disappointed. I read a few reviews, all positive, but stated that it was a little pricey. My thoughts on the matter are I paid for what I got; great food, excellent service, quaint ambiance, live soft piano music for our dining pleasure and a quiet/romantic dinner with my bride....priceless. This was our first dining experience at the Lafayette, but most certainly will not be our last.
Casi no había clientes. Fue la cena de fin de año. Había música de piano. Cantaron las mañanitas x mi cumple, muy amables. La comida muy rica. Bien equilibrada. La carta de vinos bien.
A stunning restaurant with incredible food, service, ambiance, and live piano music while you eat. I had a truly premier and world class brunch experience that you simply cannot miss if you’re in the area. Our server, Geo, really made the dining experience feel exceptional.
Lovely ambiance, food was great, service-perfect!
High class dinning in beautiful settings. Perfect for a special occasion lunch or dinner.
Location, location, location. Oh, and white tablecloths. That's what allows Lafayette to charge the prices they do. It can't be for the food -- bland, unimaginative, pedestrian. Umami is still a foreign concept in this kitchen. And it can't be for the service -- disorganized, borderline rude.
The food and service was outstanding. Really enjoyed the piano which created a wonderful ambiance.
Eli our waiter was excellent providing great service and advice on both food and wine.
We will definitely return.
Having lunch at the Lafayette Restaurant is always a delight. The food is wonderful, the service is impeccable, and the ambience is nelegant. One could not ask for more.
This was a great place to go for our 41st wedding anniversary, but it was a little noisy for the first half of our meal. The table next to us was as boisterous as a bar until the two young couples there cleared out half way through our dinner on a Monday evening. The dinner was delicious, especially the halibut and sea trout, and the service was excellent, except that the waiter inadvertently served each main course to the wrong person. The piano player was excellent, especially for broadway tunes, and the decor of the restaurant and the entrance through the Hay Adams Hotel is very elegant. We also appreciated the free valet parking.
Great place for a business meeting or a quiet conversation.
Great as always. Great service. Discrete, so we could talk. No rush, so we could complete our conversation.
One of the most civilized ways of spending a Sunday in the Capital.
This was my third time at this restaurant and unfortunately service is declining. Food is good, great atmosphere, service is just not what you would expect from this type of hotel.
Hands down this is the best brunch in DC and possibly in America, can't beat the setting, value for price and exceptional service.
Awesome experience celebrating our wedding anniversary. It was so nice we are considering turning it into an annual event.
This was our 30th anniversary dinner, it was a wonderful experience. From start to finish. Service of the personnel was awesome. The food is a must try, just wonderful.
An ultimate experience overall.
Prompt, professional and overall great service! The only thing better was the food!
One of our favorite breakfast spots. The staff is incredibly welcoming, attentive and kind. This is a well lit, open dining room, perfect for breakfast. The food is top notch, and the crab cake eggs benedict are over the top great!
This is a classical restaurant right next to the White House. The service is good, the ambience is settled, quiet and nice. The food is really good quality.
Food is savory and packed with a punch of flavor. The Lamb is seasoned remarkably, while the Duck is a delicacy. Dessert of berries is a perfect way to end the evening. A must do . . .
Our 1st anniversary after we spent our wedding night with you last November 3. You did not disappoint, but the price is a bit high, otherwise we would come more often.
A true dining experience. The piano throughout the dinner was special.
High level fine dining. Delicious Food.
A little pricey bit oh so worth it! Outstanding service and food. Extensive wine list. Great place for a special night out!
Overall superb dining experience!!
This place never disappoints. It's our hands down favorite when we entertain out of town guests.
Overall we had an average experience. The decor and ambiance is elegant. However, as other reviewers have mentioned, the food was mediocre at best. We likely wouldn't return.
My husband's mother flew into DC from Little Rock. She's very particular, and I wanted to wow her. Score! She could not find one thing to complain about here. Service, ambience, valet parking, food all equisite. Our server recommended the specials: ginger carrot soup and sea bass. What a perfectly delightful lunch.
Mother-daughter trip to Washington to celebrate daughter’s 41st birthday. Elegant surroundings, attentive service and delicious food! The piano player even played “Happy Birthday” when the waiter brought out her special birthday dessert.
The Lafayette was spectacular. Food was amazing, ambiance was phenomenal (credit to the pianist), and service was incredible - shoutout to Anthony our waiter and the wonderful woman from Spain at the Concierge/Reception desk! This was a special dinner date and I could not have been happier. 10/10 would recommend!
Beautiful elegant dining room and perfect attentive service. The food however was a disappointment. Bland. Uninteresting and expensive. 4 diners. 4 different meals (appetizer, main and desert). That is 12 different items and not one rave review.
Lafayette was billed on reviews as a "view" restaurant. While on Lafayette Square, there is no view. It is a decent but not in any way special hotel restaurant. Good service and nice food but just not special. On a Friday night relatively few diners and our table was in middle of room next to room they were setting up for a buffet breakfast. Piano was a nice idea but way too loud. decor of restaurant needs updating. Restaurant probably very nice for breakfast but not for lunch or dinner unless you are staying at hotel and looking for convenience. But, service was excellent once we got to our table.
Excellent place for business lunches, quiet, great room, great food, great service !
Amazing location and outstanding food as well as service.
When I got my main dish, it was a little bit to cold but immediately they take it away and served a complete new main dish.
Fine dining at its best. Meal offerings were superb and the ambience was an absolute classic. Can’t wait to return to the DC area to experience The Lafayette again
