Our breakfast at Lafayette was perfect. We were meeting friends from Los Angeles who we had not seen in awhile. It was a couple where the wife was from London and the husband from Paris. Both commented that the dining room at Lafayette had the feel of London and Paris, so they were quite happy. The food and service were excellent and we lingered for a lovely breakfast in a lovely room.
Sweet place, excellent food, awesome ambience
Was expecting to have a view/eat on top floor, but was sent down to the dining area off the lobby because of a meeting luncheon taking place there. That part was disappointing, but lunch was lovely with my Dad, visiting after seeing the cherry blossoms together.
We have always loved The Lafayette. Dining there is a true pleasure. We recommend it highly. Great service, outstanding atmosphere and delicious cuisine.
Everything about this restaurant was great...a little pricey but I would definitely return.
The staff was very polite and professional, we had two extra guests that were not part of the resevation and they quickly and happily accomodated our change. The food was nicely plated and delicious. The ambiance is the main reason I went here, elegantly decorated, located in a historic, building and with view to the white house, it is a must when you are in DC.
Absolutely wonderful. Service is superb. Took a picture of the grits it was so beautiful and delicious.
True "Washington" - impeccable service, ambiance, food choice and tastes. With views of the White House with the spring bloom exploding, second to none!
Refined and excite dining at its best!
Such a lovely hotel/restaurant. surprised that guests were in sweats and sneakers and many tables used as office meeting with binders, handouts, etc.
Spoiled birthday celebration by an office environment.
Food was mediocre at best. The steak was completely tasteless as in no flavor. Pasta was good as was tuna tartare but neither were anything special. The service was very good, very nice and friendly people.
Simply the finest dining room in Washington, DC. Its charm, grace and formality so rare these days.
The dress code was not enforced. Maybe it was a saturday. I found too many customers dress overly casually.
This is our favorite upscale breakfast place. The service is spectacular. Beautiful, sunlit dining room. Never a bad experience! The wait staff have been there for years, and show it through their service.
Would recommend this restaurant with reservations--service is very slow and indifferent, but the room is pleasant and noise level low, with nice live piano player, who does a very good job and does not overpower the room. The food is good to very good--NOT exceptional, but more or less worth the price. If you want a nice high-end restaurant where you can spend a lot of time talking with your guests, this is the place---but don't go if you are in a hurry.
The food was pretty good but we expected a little better. My steak was a New York strip that was covered with brown gravy. Not much different than anyone could do at home. Octopus was excellent. This place has great service but food is so-so.
Everything was excellent, as it usually is.
Could not use valet parking as he neighborhood was hut down by trumps church visit. Had to park on the street, two blocks away.
Buen restaurant. Nada del otro mundo
Best and most classy brunch in town !! Service is excellent, ambiance is great and the food is delicious. The piano player is excellent, which adds to the atmosphere.
Room is fabulous. Love the decor. Waiter was great. Kitchen was really slooooow. Put a damper on the entire experience.
Had a weekday breakfast and it was wonderful! Food was great, service great, ambiance and view outstanding!
It's really wasn't worth the price. Ridiculously expensive and didn't have that much variety. The waiter went on to explain to us that he was doing us a favor by refilling our champagne glass. Pictures online are deceiving. The Seasons is far better than this place...
Everything was perfect, service above all. If there were a suggestion to make, the entrees should be served a little warmer.
The food, service, and ambiance are refined and gave us a special, relaxed, enjoyable evening. We look forward to our next evening at the Lafayette Restaurant.
Absolutely beautiful restaurant! We came here for my birthday dinner & I was not disappointed. The lamb was cooked perfectly, our waitress was spot on, the champagne was excellent! I could go on and on. I would definitely recommend them
Absolutely marvelous! Food was fabulous, service stellar and can’t wait to go bsck very very soon
The Lafayette is easily one of the finest restaurants in Washington. When I have special guests, I always take them to the Lafayette.
No one in DC's finer establishments comes close to Clarence at the Lafayette! No one. He is the best, hands down.
Excellent waiters. Specially the lady from Ethiopia
The buffet offerings are spectacular and the quality champagne flows freely, even before you are invited to choose an entree from the menu. It is pricey but worth it. And the setting is all elegance. All that said, I did notice some regular touches missing - napkins were not refolded, and silverware was not replaced between buffet visits (picky, yes, but when you’re paying $95 plus tip you hope for the usual Lafayette standards). No spoons on dessert bar for small custards (and none at my table when I returned to it, either). Staff seemed overloaded, and management distracted by what seemed to be an annoying security detail for some unknown diplomatic guest . Just an off day, I am guessing. It’s always a perfect experience, and yesterday was almost perfect.
We went to celebrate my fiancé’s birthday and had a wonderful tome! The service was impeccable and the ambiance was truly spectacular.
The restaurant has a very pleasant atmosphere and the noise level was conducive to a good conversation. However, the food was fine but overpriced for the quality and the service was only satisfactory, with the waitress not very attentive. (The person who handled the bread and water was very good and at several points we had to rely on him to get the waitress' attention. ) The valet who handled our car was outstanding. b
Had the best experience at Lafayette. The service was phenomenal, and the food did not disappoint. Our server Clarence ensured we had the best experience, and the support staff was also on top of everything (Jean). The tuna tartare and strip steak were absolutely fantastic. can't wait to go back.
Went for Valentine’s Day. The presentation was memorable, and my wife and I certainly wanted to try all the items listed on their Valentine’s day special menu. Since there were two options for each course this was not difficult to do! The sunchoke soup was delicious, but the cauliflower pancetta seemed a bit strange. Cod was good, as was the branzino. I enjoyed the lamb loin while my wife enjoyed the tenderloin filet. She finished with Passion Fruit Gateau while I enjoyed the Heart of Opalys dessert. A bit overpriced for what it was, but we were given the roses on the table at the end of the meal along with some candies and macaroons as a keepsake which was a nice touch.
This restaurant is just so dated. I had a terrible Valentine's Day experience with them. I had not been to Lafayette for several years, but I did not realize that the quality had declined so much. Perhaps it was always like this and I didn't notice. What a disappointment. My husband suggested that they over prepared for Valentine's Day, but I would have hoped that they would attempt to up their game for a holiday. I understand using sous vide to prepare most of your foods but you cannot forget to season. No texture, minimal warmth, and little flavor. I won't bother going back.
Very disappointed. Food was neither creative, nor thoughtfully prepare. Service was good. But the food was extremely disappointing, particularly given the price point.
The service is always amazing as well as the food selection. It is a great place to celebrate a special occasion. The breakfast is tasty and the brunch is second to none. Be sure to make a reservation so they know to expect you!
The best Washington DC has to offer. Wonderful ambience, highest level service and absolutely delicious food.
Lovely setting and excellent food!
Always a fantastic place! Family favorite for sure!
The food was just okay, not great. Well-cooked and well-presented, but flavor was lacking. Steak and fish were both bland. Service was friendly and professional, but once the restaurant got busy service became slow. They have specialized staff just to pour your water, but not enough actual waiters to take care of your other needs.
