El nombre del restaurante, L'Abattoir, rinde homenaje a su pintoresco pasado, pues está ubicado en la zona histórica de Gastown, entre Gaoler's Mews y Blood Alley, fue construido en el siglo XIX en el emplazamiento de la 1ª cárcel de Vancouver y originalmente lindaba con la principal carnicería de la ciudad y el distrito de la carne. El restaurante ocupa un edificio reformado de ladrillo y vigas de madera que combina azulejos clásicos franceses con elementos industriales y madera natural y cuenta con bar salón, comedor elevado, atrio lujoso con mucha luz y comedores privados. El chef Lee Cooper y el propietario y director Paul Grunberg se esmeran en destacar los puntos fuertes de comer y beber en el ambiente informal de L'Abattoir. El servicio, elegante pero sin pretensiones, está orquestado por el encargado general Ricardo Ferreira. Los platos, típicos de la costa oeste y con influencias francesas, se acompañan con la ecléctica carta de vinos, diseñada por la directora de vinos Lisa Haley, y la innovadora carta de cócteles para crear una experiencia culinaria exclusiva.

    A multi-course, indulgent seasonal menu with optional beverage pairings. This Chef's Menu is offered at $140 (food only) per guest and offers choices for each course. Pescatarian and vegetarian modifications can be accommodated. This menu is subject to modifications based on product availability. Please allow for a minimum of 2 hours for your dining experience. Pre-selection is encouraged and all reserved guests must participate in the Chef's Menu.

Reservations are available at select times only and are limited to a 2-hour dining time.     We were so looking forward to this restaurant but it didn’t live up to the ratings. Appetizers were average. Dinner was good but compared to our other reservations it was average. Decor was sad and dated. On a positive note, cocktails were great!

    This was absolutely the best. We chose the chef menu, but didn’t do the wine paring (chose our own as we wanted) It was a nine course menu and each serving was better and better! Fun attentive staff gave birthday candles on the dessert to help us celebrate! Highly recommended!

    L’Abattoir is my favourite Vancouver restaurant. This was by far the best meal I’ve had in 2024. I found that the bread service in particular was exemplary. As well the portion sizes were fabulous. It was definitely worth the value I paid. I hope I will be able to come back again this year to try out more of the menu.

    Wow! Food presentation and tastes were amazing. Staff explained each dish very well. Highly recommend the baked oysters and the steak Diane. Halibut was also superb. Noise level was excessive (granted it was a Saturday night)

    My girlfriend and I recently dined here for a special evening. If you are new to Vancouver, this restaurant is in a great tourist spot, making for some good walking and pictures. The food was outstanding, I had the Gaspor pork chop which was fantastic. Also, their in-house baked bread is the best I've had. We also enjoyed a few cocktails that made the evening much more fun. Service was attentive and informative. Their sommelier helped us pair our food perfectly. Lads, if you want a happy wifey, take her here.

    We had to wait so long for our mains to come out… it is understandable if they give us a heads up or somewhat an apologetic way of saying it will take a lil longer but when asked, they just said because we ordered things that would take longer to cook (?) the mains will require longer cooking time and wont come out for at least another 15min (after what felt like forever wait after our appz… the food were alr sinking in by the time i asked for updates on the main). Appetizers were good but the mains were disappointing and the sauce seemed repetitive from one main to the other. Maybe worth trying once but I expect a lot better service and food at this type of restaurant:) Wine was good!

    Everything was fantastic. I will definitely be going back with my friends and future business associates. Beautifully presented food and delicious in flavor. The sommelier helped us choose our wine which went with each dish. Our friends from Chicago commented how non pretentious it was and that the food was so high end with fabulous presentation and flavor

    I want to premise by saying that quality and presentation/attention to detail of food was excellent; especially great were the bread, foie gras, and the lamb. However, the choice of desserts was very limited and there were not light options that go well with the dinner. My two very disappointing notes are the following: 1) the acoustic was terrible, and indeed it was so loud we could barely hear each other at the table; 2) even though waiting stuff was cordial, we waited about 45 minutes between appetisers and mains, which is absolutely unacceptable. We received somewhat of an apology and they offered a small glass of iceweine as well as the palate cleanser from the tasting menu, but that is not enough. If they don’t fix this, they will never earn a Michelin star. Would I go back? Given here in Vancouver there are better options (Saint Lawrence or Le Crocodile), I highly doubt it.
