El nombre del restaurante, L'Abattoir, rinde homenaje a su pintoresco pasado, pues está ubicado en la zona histórica de Gastown, entre Gaoler's Mews y Blood Alley, fue construido en el siglo XIX en el emplazamiento de la 1ª cárcel de Vancouver y originalmente lindaba con la principal carnicería de la ciudad y el distrito de la carne. El restaurante ocupa un edificio reformado de ladrillo y vigas de madera que combina azulejos clásicos franceses con elementos industriales y madera natural y cuenta con bar salón, comedor elevado, atrio lujoso con mucha luz y comedores privados. El chef Lee Cooper y el propietario y director Paul Grunberg se esmeran en destacar los puntos fuertes de comer y beber en el ambiente informal de L'Abattoir. El servicio, elegante pero sin pretensiones, está orquestado por el encargado general Ricardo Ferreira. Los platos, típicos de la costa oeste y con influencias francesas, se acompañan con la ecléctica carta de vinos, diseñada por la directora de vinos Lisa Haley, y la innovadora carta de cócteles para crear una experiencia culinaria exclusiva.

A multi-course, indulgent seasonal menu with optional beverage pairings. This Chef's Menu is offered at $140 (food only) per guest and offers choices for each course. Pescatarian and vegetarian modifications can be accommodated. This menu is subject to modifications based on product availability. Please allow for a minimum of 2 hours for your dining experience. Pre-selection is encouraged and all reserved guests must participate in the Chef's Menu.

Came here for my birthday and loved the entire experience! The server was so kind; he offered my friend a new drink when he noticed that my friend wasn’t really touching his drink. The other servers would stop by periodically to sweep off any crumbs from the table. They had great attention to detail and we felt very well taken care of. The food was phenomenal! Every dish tasted so delicious — from the appetizers, the entrees and the dessert. They knew it was my birthday so they added a candle to the dessert which was really sweet. I’ve been wanting to come here for years as I’ve heard the great reviews and I’m really glad I finally got to experience it for myself. It is at a higher price, but I thought it was worth it and I’m sure we’ll be back for another special occasion.

I would have given a higher rating for value as the food was phenomenal and the wine divine, but I agreed to a $170pp wine pairing upgrade thinking that the original $155pp gaolers menu would only increase by $15 and total out at $170pp. Instead our dining bill for two with premium wine tasting was over $700. $748 to be exact. $900 with tip. Ouch.

Carefully prepared food is delicious. Pork chop is to die for. House white wine, created by the sommelier, is excellent. Engaging staff. Great vibe. Wonderful evening.

We did the tasting menu and it did not disappoint. Would highly recommend it along with using the sommelier for wine recommendations. One of the best meal experiences that we have ever had anywhere in the world.

Getting the Gaolers menu is pricey AF but suuuuuper tasty so it’s worth it to go to for a special occasion. Excellent service and great ambiance. Would absolutely recommend to friends!

Great steak Diane and duck. Professional, courteous service by the staff; however we were on a date, specified in the reservation, and we were seated right beside the bathroom and could hear everyone going. It ruined our romantic evening. For $300+ on dinner, disappointed and won’t be returning nor recommending.

We came in for a date night, also with the intention of trying out the food as we have booked this venue for our wedding. There is no one way to describe L’Abattoir. It was a perfect evening from start to finish. The food was exceptional. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and genuinely cared about your experience being good. Can not wait to get married here!
