La Voile Brookline
We had a night out with my husband, food and wine was very good - we really enjoyed our dinner.
We like this restaurant very much and they try hard to please. It is much more pleasant to dine downstairs but the noise level can be very high. It would be terrific if they could ameliorate the noise level with carpeting and sound proofing.
They were most kind in moving us upstairs where the noise level was fine.
We went for my mother's birthday and had an amazing experience! The food was delicious and service was great! Looking forward to going again!
Good food, good selection of wine, music too loud and staff neglected requests to lower volume. Also, there was detergent residue smell in the wine glasses, a major impediment to enjoyment.
We dine often in Brookline and especially enjoy taking out guests there. We had an exquisite wine, Pomerol.
I don’t really get the high ratings for this restaurant. The food is very mediocre. The ambiance is really poor. I thought the service was fine and the dessert was good. But overall, meh.
New Year’s Eve
THE BEST! Authentic Basserie menu - excellent food and service. Consistently good. Always happy to return.
We went for a New Year's Eve birthday, and were not disappointed. We ordered from the regular menu, through prix fixe was also available. Food and wine were delicious, service was nonintrusive and diligent, all the folks we had interactions with were pleasant. Cost was actually lower than we expected.
We thought that the endive salad was excellent. The foie gras was good but the grape sauce was firm and grainy. The scallops and lobster was dry and overly salted. Our major issue is that the beef bourgignon was very dry, almost no sauce, and tasteless. No excuse for that. The tart tatin was good and the profiteroles were excellent.
Great place. Food was delicious and service very good. A bit too loude and a little over priced but is one of our favorite restaurants.
We've been to La Voile in Brookline a number of times. The restaurant is warm, cozy, and not at all noisy. The food has always been very good. The servers are friendly and have been helpful in describing dishes accurately and in selecting wines. We have gone to La Voile with other couples and with a party of ten and uniformly the reactions have been very positive. It's a special place.
It was my wife's Birthday. Everything was great but I think the food at Newberry Street was better.
Eventhough this was for an anniversary and not acknowledged by any staff, the experience was a lovely one. Mid week so not very busy, but attentive, polite and friendly staff. Specialty Drinks were very tasty. Apps, escargot and muscles saffron sauce were delicious. Main dishes were very good, scallop and lobster was a nice portion. Beef stroganoff was not great, only because sauce was a bit washed by a wine or sherry of some type, but portion was of value as was the entire meal by French cuisine standards. No dessert this time around, but from the view of the patrons next to us, it look scrumptious
Excellent food and service, comfortable ambience and not noisy. I'd go there again without hesitation.
I have been disappointed in the food here the last few times I've come. Bland. Boring. And the chocolate mousse tasted as though it had been sitting in the fridge for a week, soaking up the aromas of all the other foods. I wish I could recommend it. The staff are lovely. But money is better spent elsewhere.
Fantastic restaurant. Service was awesome too. Prices are totally reasonable. Don’t miss this gem.
Hi, we enjoyed eating there but I was not so happy about food.
For example, little too much cheese in creamy risotto I couldn’t understand carrot with mussels, etc.
I know people love salty food here but I don’t like it
We have always enjoyed the food and ambience at la Voile. However, on this past visit the day after Thanksgiving, while three of the four of us enjoyed their meals as usual, one of us ordered the special entrée, which was a duck and turkey stew with white beans. This proved to be exceedingly dry, and lacked any form of liquid which one would’ve expected in a stew. This dish also came in a crock with no accompaniments. Perhaps we should have complained at the time.
Food and staff were awesome and went beyond great service!!
I recently had a birthday lunch at La Voile with my husband and two grown kids. The food was top notch. I had the trout, a dish I highly recommend. Our waiter was terrific -- attentive in a very low key way and accommodating.
I've been to this restaurant a number of times and it's always been a good place to relax and visit while enjoying a great meal.
Amazing, as usual! Authentic French of a good variety and reasonably priced. Lovely atmosphere, excellent service. One if our very favorites.
Hard to rate this night at less than 5 stars. My husband ranked it as "the best meal this year". Nothing innovative, but superbly prepared traditional bistro fare. Unfortunately, the entree course was served a little too cold and arrived with the amuse bouche. The boeuf bourguignon was the best ever! Perfectly prepared, always a favorite. The foie gras amuse bouche can't usually be had outside of France. Magnifique! Wonderful meal to celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau!
We were there for the Nouveau Beaujolais dinner. The entrees and desserts (especially the poached pear) were delicious. The escargot was cold in the center and contained no discernible garlic, butter, or parsley, but the puffed pastry was good. Although wine was included with the dinner, our server waited until the glasses were empty to serve more wine.
A very enjoyable evening with friends. Delicious food, comfortable atmosphere, good wine list.
Our family keeps coming back to our neighborhood LaVoile for an amazing food and elegant, European, chick atmosphere.
Our waiter was attentive and the food was delicious. Small place and tables are close together but we tried to ignore that as it did create an authentic French Bistro atmosphere. We would definitely enjoy going again next time we are headed to Boston. Would also like to try the one on Newbury St.
My son and I will definitely come back. The sooner, the better. From the moment we entered, we were greeted and provided complete service.
We each ordered from the $44 three course Prix Fixe menu. My son ordered the French onion soup for his starter, and the duck for his entree. I ordered the leek and truffle quiche for my starter and the trout for my main dish.
The onion soup brought us right back to France. It was even topped with Comte cheese! We also both loved the quiche which was delicately infused with truffle oil (I find that this is too heavily infused dishes almost everywhere else in the U.S.).
My son ordered the duck medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. I ordered the trout whole. It arrive almost whole (no tail) and deboned. Everything was delicious. La Voile has a unique by the glass wine list which was also appreciated!
For dessert, we both ordered the molten lava cake which was served with vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries. We found out only as we were leaving that our wonderful server Wilson was on his third day working at La Voile. We would never had known, as his service was so warm and professional!
Thanks to all for such a lovely dining experience!
Cozy, very good service, great food.
We had the trout and the others had the duck. Both ample and delicious. Our waiter was available but not pushy . Overall the dinner was a lovely experience. Highly recommend Le Voile.
The food was wonderful and the attentive, friendly service provided by Pedro was outstanding!
We have dined at La Voile Brookline many times. This past weekend we brought friends to introduce them to the restaurant. When I made the reservation, I specifically asked for a quiet table. I repeated this request when we arrived at the restaurant. We were seated upstairs at a table in the middle of the floor next to a huge party (approximately 15), who predictably created much noise. By the end of our meal, we all had headaches and scratchy throats (from shouting) and left before dessert/coffee. My friends were not impressed. None of us would dine there again. I live in the neighborhood, and thought La Voile would be one of my "go to restaurants." Sadly, not to be.
Excellent consistent food and service
Good sole meuniere, my favorite when we travel to France and rare to find in American restaurants. Our 2 guests ordered the same and they liked it as well. Also, good steak frites for my husband. We were giving La Voile another chance, having found the food not stellar in the past.
I told them it was a birthday but they did nothing special. Other than that, it was a fabulous experience
Birthday dinner for my spouse--really great evening. The food was excellent (especially the fish soup with aioli), the servers were very attentive and helpful with explanations or suggestions as requested. We don't eat out often, so it's always sort of high stakes when we do, and this was really delightful. I'd highly recommend either of the La Voile restaurants.
The place is a bit difficult to drive to, but worth the parking pain. The fish entrees are excellent and the service is fast if you are in a hurry. Just speak up. The beef bourguignon is also amazing.
The food at LaVoile never, ever disappoints. In my opinion it is the best restaurant Brookline has to offer.
We enjoy Brookline m ore than Boston. Location works for us.
Great staff. TY
Delicious duck, wonderful service — not rushed so plenty of time to dine and socialize. A bit pricey —$45 for price fixed dinner.
