   Wonderful, authentic Italian food with impeccable service. It just doesn't get better than La Grotta. Kudos to the chef be and the waitstaff.

   My spouse and I ordered daily specials. My dinner was barely warm. His, the veal chop @$48.95, was mostly inedible due to copious amounts of fat. I suspect it wasn't veal since that is not a greasy, fat meat. When the waiter, Enzo, was told, he removed the plate without comment. The bill included the full amount for the chop. I protested, and Enzo went to the kitchen and brought the plate back out. It had obviously been sitting out in the kitchen for at least 10 minutes. He then turned the chop upside down to show that there was edible meat on that side. I asked why that side hadn't been turned up in the first place. He walked away. I paid the bill, but I will never go back to La Grotta and will tell others not to.

   We were visiting from out of state and decided to dine here at this restaurant. The food came out cold, we still ate it. We had to call the server over several times to refill water glass and ask for condiments. At the end of dinner, the server took the left over food that each individual person had to the back to pack it in to go boxes. I personally don’t like my food being hauled away for packing. I like it done right at the table! The server forgot to bring our to go boxes back to the table. We ended up having to ask for them. He brought back 2 of the 3. One of my friends that had a to go steak meal, ended up with someone’s pasta meal! To receive someone’s leftover pasta meal during such disease filled times or any time is utterly disgusting!!! Had this inattentive server went back, had the food packed and came right back to our table, or better yet, packed the leftovers right at the table, this surely would have been avoided! I do not feel that the restaurant handled the wrong box of food being delivered to the one guest in our party was sufficient at all and sort of made it out to be the fault of the guest for receiving the wrong food! If we are ever visiting Richmond in the future, this restaurant surely will NOT be one that we would even consider coming back to!!

   Very nice atmosphere & location, convenient public parking, generous portion sizes, good value for multi-course dinner options. Nice option for date night, small dinner parties. But, not what it once was in terms of food quality & service. Escargot (snails) listed as served in butter were instead in oil, bread quality was same as grocery store (pitiful for high end Italian restaurant), veal scallopini was very thin and small meat portion, filling in homemade ravioli was very small and ricotta grainy in texture, tiramisu had very thin marscapone and cheaper liquor. Had to ask for clean silverware halfway through 5 course meal as it was not replaced, and not all dirty plates removed between courses. Value is worth returning, but sad it has lost it’s luster and now ranks mediocre in my book.

    I went with a group of 8- the ambience and food were excellent and our server was very personable. Since we had a party of over 7 people, a 20% gratitude was added, which was fine and communicated on their menu and website. The only thing that stops this from being a 5 star review was that the business was unable to do separate checks. Since this was a business meal, this was very challenging for my party. Unless you plan to pay for your entire large party on one check, I recommend steering clear.

    It was an incredibly rushed experience - at one point they put my first course on my table as I had not finished my starter. The food was very tasty, and I don’t want to take away from that, but other restaurants have handled early closing hours better than they did. I enjoyed my experience overall but this did take away from it. I

    Our waiter, Roger, was excellent as was the food. My only complaint would be that the female hostess was rude. We did have a very large party spread out over several reservations but she was annoyed having to figure out how to seat us. She should have been grateful to have 25 people filling tables. That is how the restaurant makes the money to pay her!

    Very tasteful decor and nice layout to separate the guests near the bar from others who may be looking for a slightly quieter dining experience (though the bar wasn't that bad). Jeremy was our server, and he fully embraced the concept of hospitality! He did this with the other guests near us as well. He knew the menu thoroughly and gave us outstanding recommendations. Everything we had was top-notch in presentation and taste. We even felt comfortable enough to engage in conversation with the guests sitting next to us. We don't dine here often, but when we do, it's always a superior experience!

    Just wonderful. We entertained friends and everybody enjoyed. Good waiter, fine chef, nice wine list. Too bad it’s in a hotel, usually not a good sign, but wet not disappointed in spite of the location. Convenient parking across the street. Recommended.

    Food was excellent and waiter was superb. Disappointing though that they would not allow us to celebrate my wife’s birthday with gluten free cupcakes that we brought in. They were very strict and it dampened the experience. They said that they had sorbets which were gluten free… seriously??

    The service was phenomenal! Our waiter was soooo helpful. The food was seriously good. We could taste the freshness of the pasta. My veal chop was cooked perfectly. The 4 and 5 course meal is such a good value so we could try everything. Best tiramisu I’ve ever had!

    Had dinner tonight at La Grotta and once again, it was absolutely wonderful. We requested Enzo as our waiter when I made the reservation and he remembered us (probably because the last time we were there my elderly mother passed out at the table and we had to call and ambulance, lol). This time there was no fainting but there was lots of swooning over the food. We decided on the 5 course prix fixe menu and a word of warning, it's NOT family style and the portions are NOT smaller. Each person has their pick of the menu of their 5 courses. It was A LOT of food. We thought that they would be smaller, tasting size portions. But no they were full sized. We ended up boxing up our entrees because we were so full by the time they arrived. All in all it was a pleasantly paced 2 hour meal. My mom didn't pass out, the gnocchi were like beautiful pillows, the burrata melted in your mouth, the osso buco fell off the bone and we literally rolled out of there happy and nostalgic for our home in Italy.

    We celebrated an Anniversary with four other friends. Jeremy was our server and he was personable and professional and responded to our dining needs. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very pleasant. I would highly recommend La Grotta especially for a special occasion dinner.

    We arrived very early, before 6, so at first we were the only customers. Our wait staff was friendly and attentive. The dishes were delicious- a balance between both inventive and traditional. We stayed talking at the table for well over two hours but no one ever made us feel rushed to leave as the restaurant filled up. Go elsewhere if you are looking for a budget friendly restaurant or a quick meal. This is one where you’ll want to linger and enjoy your meal. It’s worth it!

    Nothing short of perfect, the meal was easily the best Italian food I’ve had in Richmond. The ambiance was beautiful, the food was phenomenal. The service however made the entire experience sensational. We will definitely be eating here again and again!

    Wonderful experience as usual. Food and service were as expected- top notch. Did take about an hour to get our entrees from time of seating to delivery. Were able to enjoy salad and appetizer, but quite a bit of time passed before the entree was presented.
