Kusakabe is a gourmet sushi experience in San Francisco that offers diners a delicious way to taste a style of sushi they may not be familiar with. The chef at Kusakabe serves a prix fixe meal every night that features the Kaiseki style of sushi. After the meal has been served, diners may order additional fare from the a la carte menu.
During their meal, guests at Kusakabe will enjoy freshly made seasonal sushi, including a medium fatty tuna cured in soy sauce, sashimi served with fresh wasabi and onion sauce, Japanese oysters served with caviar and a soup of snap pea and white bean paste. More sushi, including the chef�s choice of the day, completes the meal.

Took my 95 yr old Made in Japan Mom and a nice lady guest for a Friday night extragalactic sushi experience. Sat at the bar in front of Ken-san who was outstanding as usual. The Dude, Mr. Kusakabe, was at his post, just being cool and calm like Keanu without the hair......so the three of us had the 11 course Omakase, my mother enjoyed a nice bottle of Chardonnay while I downed half a dozen ice cold Asahi’s. A special glass of plum sake with desert (not included in the Omakase for some reason) topped off a wonderful evening of delicious, top quality sushi and sashimi, same you would expect in Shibuya or Ginza. That said it ain’t cheap so be ready to splurge like the big one’s coming tomorrow! And I made mom drive back to the East Bay.........LOL!!!!

Easy to book and easy to work with. Host is thoughtful and flexible to accommodate our anniversary celebration. Chefs are friendly, menu is well thought out, ambience is cozy and relaxing. Everyone is professional to bring the kaiseki dining experience together.

The boss was off on Tuesday evening but sat in front of Ken and he performed splendidly. We both ordered the 11 course omakase and shared a cold junmai sake of Kubota from Nigata which paired well with every dish. Plus I drank 5 ice cold Asahi drafts. Everything was fantastic as is always the case at Kusakabe. It’s top notch for its sushi reputation on the West Coast. My 95 year old Japanese mother agrees fully and gives Kusakabe a big thumbs up!

Exceptional service. Great location. The ambience and decor were wonderful. It is Omakese only so be prepared to eat pieces you may not normally order. I’m pretty adventurous with sushi and this pushed me out of my comfort zone a bit but it was really enjoyable. Our server, Jimmy, was awesome and we thoroughly enjoyed talking with him. It’s a pricey dinner but if you are looking for a really cool experience in San Francisco, this is the spot to do it.
Most I’ve ever paid for a meal, but worth it. Allow yourself to be surprised, delighted, and treated well. You deserve it.

I love KUSAKABE, because it serves (non sushi) kaiseki dishes along with variety of tasty sushi. Most of other places only serves sushi.

Best sushi and presentation I have experienced in my life. I went back a second time a month later to see if maybe I just happen to luck out, catch the right server, catch the right fish of the day, but no. This was not the case. The meal was exceptional a second time and I would highly recommend them.
Comparing this to the other similar sushi places, this one has great values with outstanding service, chefs, and food.

Uniquely delicious sushi/sashimi-based omakase with delightful sake pairings. The over-pour into an ice-cube-like glass was something else. Every course was well put together, ending on a magnificent piece of otoro.

My partner and I had grand omakase at Kusakabe and it was the best meal either of us have ever experienced. We each had a glass of sake, graciously recommended to us by a staff member, and after our omakase was finished, we each had one item from the a la carts menu. It was expensive, but we felt afterwards that our experiences were worth every penny we spent there. Our expectations and hopes were exceeded.
We had chef Ngai, who made sure our experience was relaxed, fun, and educational. There was nothing pretentious and we were very comfortable. Thank you, chef! We had a lovely time and we’ll be sure to return in the future.
