Kula Lodge & Restaurant, Inc.
The Kula Lodge has been a favorite of both visitors and Maui residents for great dining and great meals and breathtaking views of Maui. Perched high above the green hills of Kula on the Valley Island of Maui, the Kula Lodge and Restaurant is a comfortable place to relax on the way back from Haleakala, Hana or Maui's Ulupalakua Winery. Arriving from the other direction, the Kula Lodge is a gateway to rich scenery of Upcountry Maui, as wonderful place to meet or treat your friends and the only full-service bar in Kula.
The restaurant seats up to one hundred and fifty guests, with a very special outdoor area. Cradled in the trees at more than three-thousand feet, the Kula Lodge Garden Terrace features a wood-burning pizza oven and an open view of the entire west side of Maui.
No outdoor seating for dinner and no craft pizzas at dinner either. We do wish we had known this before we went. Service was excellent but the lodge is outdated and run down. Incredible view at sunset but not worth the hour drive from Wailea for dinner.
We stayed in one of the lodge's chalets and enjoyed a dinner and a breakfast at the restaurant. The sunset view cannot be beat, and the live music was nice. Cozy, rustic ambiance with a nice fire in the fireplace. The food was good, well prepared, not very adventurous but tasty - we had the coconut shrimp appetizer, a filet mignon entree, a pasta dish, a bottle of local Maui wine, a kid mac and cheese, and the pineapple upside down cake. Prices were high for the meal overall, but this is to be expected on Maui, and you're definitely paying for location/views. They also serve a decent full breakfast, sort of diner-style fare like french toast and omelets. Good coffee. Again, not cheap, but also, that view: we got a vast panorama of rainbows all through our meal, then enjoyed a stroll in the flower garden. The service was attentive and friendly. Altogether worthwhile, especially convenient on the way to or from Haleakala National Park.
If you don’t think you can make it up Haleakala for the sunset, then the view at the lodge will give you a gorgeous beautiful substitute while having a wonderful 5 star dinner.
Food was outstanding. My steak was slightly overcooked, but was still tasty. I am picky on the temp of my food. This was our last stop for restaurants for dinner and our downfall may have been we were comparing it to all the others we have been to. Most places from the time we order within 30 minutes our food was already out. The service was very sub par. Our server seemed very disinterested in us once we didn’t order any drinks and no apps. Often waters went without being refilled, never came to ask us how our food was (hence inability to advise her of overcooked steak), only to ask if she could clear our plates or get us a box while we were still visibly eating. Food was great though!
Very pleasant dinner. Service was top notch. Accommodated specific seating request. Price was more reasonable than I expected. They were out of a couple menu items which happened to be what one of us wanted, but their substitution was excellent. Short ribs were good, but not to die for. A little heavy on spices. It is definitely worth the drive, especially if you haven't seen the sunset from upcountry. Again, can't commend the service enough. Personable, attentive and no "pushing us out". I highly recommend.
Once again great food and service. Highly recommended!
Wonderas always. Food delicious and beautiful views
Best food, everything! Best experience in our 10 days In Maui! Highly recommended!
Awful. Poor service. Did not honor our open table reservation even though we were on time. Drove an hour to get there.
They said they had some walks in so could not seat us.
We drove to this restaurant tonight from Wailea due to excellent reviews. It was a long drive and we made reservations. When we arrived the host told us that he was relives that we made reservations. We were seated and then told by our waitress that it would be 45 minutes till we got entrees due to a large party of people that came. We were okay with tat since it was the only restaurant for miles. So we got bread, soup and salad to tide us over.45 minutes came and went then the hostess said it would be even longer!!! We decided to leave the restaurant for the night. There was no discount given on the food we ordered. Very unhappy. If you decide to go there you may want to call in advance to find out if you will be served in a timely manner.
A spectacular location however the interior is tired and does need a makeover, the food is very average in a very competitive environment. With such a spectacular location the beautiful gardens, the meal was very disappointing.
What a wonderful place! The views at 3200 feet above the sea are outstanding. Amazing sunset view above the Pacific off the east coast of south Maui. You can also see west Maui and the island of Lanai. The prime rib was cooked just as I ordered and was vert tender and tasty. Another in our party had braised short ribs which they said were very good. The service was quite good -- not rushed and not too slow. The wait staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The lodge itself is old but well maintained. The decor is a bit dated. It is definitely worth the drive upcountry to dine here.
Food was delicious. Nice atmosphere on Valentine’s Day...wonderful live music.
MAI TAI'S WERE VERY TASTY. WE TOURED THE GARDENS OUTSIDE BEFORE OUR RESERVATIONS. SINCERITY, AT ITS FINEST. WE HAD A LOVELY DINNER WITH GOOD FRIENDS AND FAMILY. WE ALSO HAD DESSERT TO SHARE. WONDERFUL, THAT IS WHY WE KEEP RETURNING.
Only complaint, wine was WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. Bought a bottle of same at Tamura’s for Less than price of one glass...
Good food and location on the way back from the volcano.
We go to Kula Lodge at least once every other month. This last experience, from the food to the service, was PHENOMENAL! So phenomenal we made a reservation for next week. :)
A very nice experience at a restaurant with an amazing view.
We found this gem of a restaurantonline when planning a trip to Kula and Haleakalā National Park. It looked quite charming in the photos so we decided to have dinner on the way back from Haleakalā.
The outsides of the restaurant and the cabins looked old and rustic but the inside was beautiful and simply furnished.
The view from the back of the restaurant where we were seated was stunning. What a place to view the sunset! Amazing views of both Kihei and Kahului, West Maui Mountains, Lanai and Molokai!
The food and friendly service were equally impressive with gluten friendly options available on the menu, including a gluten free dessert.
A great place for a leisurely dinner!
This has a wonderful view of Maui from the dining room. The food was excellent with the locally grown vegetables adding an amazing amount of flavor. Service was quick and considerate. I’d definitely come here again!
We had a wonderful meal. The service was great and our waitress was outstanding. We will definitely be coming back when we come back to Maui!
Spectacular view, lovely staff, very yummy meal. Charming building with a great fireplace.
Love the menu
Great view and staff was accommodating for special request !!
The location is great but the food service was slow and our meal was luke warm when received. The food was acceptable but not superior. The server did not refill my water after it was empty until I requested more.
Do not go here for fish; Over priced and very poor Onaga. Otherwise we love this place. Go early; enjoy the pizza and view.
Great service. Food was very good. The views are incredible and complete the experience.
Everything great except the $42 rib eye. We ordered it medium rare and it was just shy of well done. It was about 1/2 thick. I think we would have had a better steak at Denny’s.
What a lovely establishment! It's a beautiful setting with friendly, competent servers, and delicious, reasonably priced food. We enjoyed dinner, stayed overnight at the Kula Lodge, and returned for a breakfast the next morning. The Maui onion serve was offered as an appetizer, but so filling that I could not order an entree. Instead, I opted for a Mauitini and a decadent dessert. The buttermilk pancakes were light, fluffy, and the coconut syrup a perfect complement. We are regular visitors to Maui and plan to return to the Kula Lodge during our next trip.
Gorgeous view, relaxing. Food excellent! Love it everytime we are there!
Wonderful with great sunset views
Great prime rib
We love Kula Lodge! It’s the perfect place to eat after coming down from Haleakela Crater for sunset! Food was great but service was slow on NYE ... as can be expected! Actually gave us some beautiful bonding time with our clients!
We reserved a table there for an early dinner in New Year’s Eve and watched the last sunset of the year come down behind the Maui mountains. The view was outstanding! They sat us down right away. The service was great! The food was good too! Some of the appetizers were just ok, but others very good! Same with main courses though mostly very good!
Deserts were delicious!
The view is worth is by itself and the atmosphere is very convivial.
Christmas night wax a great experience. Love the view the real Christmas tree and the roaring fireplace. We ordered the Prime Rib and Leg of Lamb. Perfect Christmas choices.
the best Christmas experience, food service was a bit slow but we weren't in a hurry and with those views you shouldn't be either. Service staff was very attentive.
We had the best experience. Went with family for a Christmas Eve dinner our first time and it was incredible great service great food great atmosphere.
We try to visit Kula Lodge every time we come to Maui. Love it here!
My wife took me to celebrate 60th birthday!!! I so enjoyed the evening.
