Was visiting KC for a girls trip. Made reservation for 10 people, after a show at Municipal Auditorium. Got there and it was closed for a private event. Too late to get a group of 10 folks into any other location. Why did my reservation get accepted? Why did no one ever contact me to let me know? Very, very disappointed.
My fiancé and I made reservations last Saturday at 9:15 using the opentable app. However when we got to the club, there was a wedding going on upstairs. We were very disappointed when we showed up as we were looking forward to the live music and some libations. I feel the staff of the club should have notified us they would not be available on this evening, they dropped the ball on this one. We drove 30 minutes to get downtown so we stopped and had a drink at another spot instead!
The Kill Devil Club was bought out and I was not notified to change my plans so we where it able to make reservations anywhere else!!! We where very displeased!
Kill Devil Club did not honor our reservation. When we arrived, they were hosting a private affair, and blamed the mix-up on Open Table-problems with website. Open table needs to have a much better communication line with the restaurants.
Overall fail on the part of Kill Devil Club. Made a reseverstion and showed up for there only to be a private event. No notice was given by the club and should have suspended reservations if this was the case. I called ahead and no one answered. Waste of my time.
I booked the kill devil for a 30th birthday for my daughter and was very pleased with the atmosphere and the staff. The staff was awesome!!! Thank you Odessa, Fluffy and the entire wait staff for making this a stress free and memorable occasion.I would recommend to anyone. I would have preferred live music, but it all worked out anyway.
This was our first time at the Kill Devil Club and we absolutely loved it. The cocktails and sharable food was amazing and the band, A La Mode, was entertaining and engaging. We will definitely be back!
Came here for drinks after proposing. The staff was AMAZING! All of the staff came up and told us congrats. They treated us like family and we really appreciated it. They helped make out night very special. NOTE: I gave them 5 stars on food, however I did not eat any of their food. There was just not a N/A option.
Great atmosphere! made reservations had our name on the table when we arrived... really nice touch!
The Kill Devil isn't a restaurant. It's a bar that has a few apetisers. We went to hear the band. Great band and staff but the bar was empty.
For our first time we were HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!! The website said we would encounter a soft jazz so that we could listen and also carry one a conversation. WRONG. We had to yell just to understand each other. The thing that made us get up and leave after only spending about 20 minutes was: "Our drinks tasted like a mixture of cleaning solvents! Then the fact we paid $14.00 and when my wife was the only one offered a new drink to try and make up for it, the so called wine was watered makeup remover. This is all after we were actually noticed to be waited on. So to answer your survey above - WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND YOUR ESTABLISHMENT nor WILL WE EVER RETURN. It was a nice building with no romantic feeling, no service and terrible DRINKS. I think we have lasted longer with our $14.00 at a casino then it was at your establishment. Guess thats why they call it "KILL Devil" It killed us and our what was to be our romantic evening. Oh yes we do not live in KC. We actually drove a distance to be at your club. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!!
The food was ok. The service was terrible. We started off with a make server who didn't give us a second to complete our order. He didn't stick around. The female server was a lot better. They need more servers considering that there's a lot of big table parties there. We waited forever for drinks and for someone to get our orders. We had to get up and go to the bar to get service.
right off the streetcar stop at 14th and main! this was an all around okay experience, but i was expecting something special from this venue. it seemed like a big empty space with typical 2016 interior. staff seemed new/inexperienced. maybe it's more just a late night drinking club? we left at 10:30 and there seemed to be more people trickling in.
Food was just ok nothing special. Drinks were average not even close to as good as manifesto. The band was the best part of the venue. The service was slow and unprofessional. It was overall a let down
The food and drinks were great and it was fun to hear live music there on the stage. Although the music was loud, I still thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to The Kill Devil and I hope to visit again soon.
Bar opens at 8pm and there was nobody there when we walked in at 815pm. Service was good at first but when it got busy from an event being over next door, it took us 45 minutes just to get our tab. Horribly under staffed. Poor girl working her first night was overwhelmed when her bartender/waitress trainer left her and stayed behind the bar. We probably won't go back. Drinks were good, but the poor staffing ruined it for our group of 6.
It's not your early cocktail spot. I went at 8pm on a Friday night and was the only one there. Cocktails were ok, but lacked balance. Next time, I'll go later when the music is playing, and I'll probably order a beer.
A place that advertises live music should have live music on a Friday night. This bar was lame. only about 20 people in there, about 15 were with one private party. Complete lack of wine and beer selection too. Not everyone wants rum. Poor selection of food. Was hoping for a nice evening with my wife, drinking wine and listening to music. I will not be back and I advise everyone to not waste your time.
It sounds kind of cheesy, but all the elements that I found in this place are just a great formula for magic, great ambiance, great food, great drinks and great service!
The ambiance was great. Very romantic. The over-sized booths could be overwhelming for just couples. The live band they had the night my husband and I went was pretty good. The Kill Devil Club is obviously to highlight the menu of rum choices and I get that. The food offerings are much to be desired. Not a fan of the Shrimp Spring rolls. Big thumbs up to the "Fleur Diable", awesome cocktail.
I took my wife here for our anniversary, made reservations, and when we arrived at 10:30 on a Saturday night, the table was ready for us. Thought that was nice. The place was dead. At this location on a Saturday night? There were three other tables in there besides us. Not a lively or fun place to begin with. They also advertise Jazz/blues music. The band was playing old rock songs mediocrely. Which is fine, but I wanted to create a romantic atmosphere for this special occasion and this place did not help.
Service was great and liked the atmosphere, etc. We were mistaken to make dinner reservations, thinking there would be more on the menu. More food choices would complete this venue in my opinion. We got something else to eat within 2 hours of leaving. When we left around 8pm, there was one couple there. A band was going to play. I'm thinking maybe the Kill Devil Club is a later night place to hang. The bar is very impressive. Great location. It was a romantic place to celebrate, and have an anniversary coctail.
My husband loves a good scotch or whiskey, and I love a good sipping tequila and we found plenty to love at Kill Devil. Very laid-back lounge vibe. Go here to drink and/or talk, not to dance or karaoke.
We booked through open table and had no issues until we arrived. When we arrived there was a bride and groom standing at the door greeting their wedding guests. The club was closed for a private function. This would not have mattered if open table had said that it was unavailable and we would not have looked forward to the night.
We booked based on the menu posted on Open Table. The real menu was about a third of that and mostly appetizers. Music doesn't start until 8:30 or later, and that isn't advertised either. This may be great for a bar scene, but go somewhere else to eat first.
The drinks are definitley the draw to this establishment. Not your average drink selection. I recommend you talk with the bartenders and sample some of the drinks revived from decades ago. Great service and very attentive managment staff. Manager spent several minutes discussing the drink menu and even bought a round of shots for our group. We will definitely be back. Live music on top of all that!
Nice, romantic, great people working there. I will go back!
We went for happy hour and ended up staying to listen to a band.
Great place with a sophisticated 30's vibe. Good atmosphere. Had fun listening to a great blues band. The small plates and rum cocktails helped the Kill Devil Club deliver a great evening.
The atmosphere and sleek-city vibe can't be topped. Beautiful place with shutter-style windows and mellow lighting lends to an atmosphere of, perhaps, a 30's jazz club. A nice variety of small plates and some interesting cocktails round out the evening. The focus is on rum and the Kill Devil Club delivers with some great rum cocktail concoctions. Try it, you'll not be disappointed!
