Ki Modern Japanese + Bar - Toronto Ratings and Reviews
My girlfriend and I went here for a birthday sushi dinner, and it was a very nice evening. All of the staff were very friendly, fast, and helpful. The food was very tasty and fresh. If you're looking for a high-quality sushi spot, and are willing to pay a premium for the experience and quality, then Ki is the right place to go!
Let me first start this off by saying that I cannot remember the last time that I wrote a restaurant review, so here goes nothing...
Firstly, I can’t comment on the quality of the food (there is no N/A option when rating) as we left before even placing our orders! Although we had reservations, we were sat in the lounge area and when I asked if we were able to sit in the dining area, I was rudely told that the dining area was only meant for guests with reservations. Did our reservations not count? Did I miss something here? Nowhere in my reservation confirmation did it say “lounge only seating”, otherwise I would have booked elsewhere. Following this lovely interaction, we were sat at a wobbly table and ignored, although the area in which we were seated was not busy and there appeared to be several servers. Nobody came over to greet us or to inquire if we wanted drinks or any of the usual things that occur after being shown to your table in a restaurant. My standards aren’t particularly high and I’m pretty sure that it’s reasonable to expect that the restaurant acknowledges your existence eventually. That didn’t happen. After a long enough wait, we decided to leave. I’m not sure exactly how long we were sitting there but there was enough time for my dinner companion and I to decide that we were disappointed and to look up several other restaurants nearby.
Oh and did I mention we were celebrating a birthday? I indicated this while making my reservation as well, which made the awful (non existent) service all the more disappointing!
Some interesting new combos -- maple with sushi; kiwi w tuna with nice use of traditional flavours like yuzu. Yummy Tiger shrimps & bits of scallops in a citrusy sauce.
However, sirloin hot plate was tough & chewy.
Hitachino beer is always a good accompaniment.
I have been to Ki several times over the last few years and it has never disappointed. The food is fresh and flavourful. The servers have always been great and the ambience is one of the best in the city. The prices are a bit high, but given the location, the atmosphere, and the quality of the food, you get what you pay for. I've been to the restaurant when it was empty and when it was crowded. It does get a bit loud when crowded, but which packed restaurant isn't noisy when crowded? Would highly recommend this place if you're into the overall experience.
We went for lunch. THey messed out order. 1 hour later we still weren't served our food while other beside us who came 20 minutes after us were served their meals. I would def not recommend Ki. Many other Japanese places that are far superior to Ki at this price point - Blowfish et al
