Keystone Ranch Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We went for New Year's Eve. We usually go to Ski Tip Lodge, but I forgot to finalize the reservation and got stuck going here. Unfortunately, it paled in comparison. The food was all precooked- my soup was cold, my bouillabaisse was cold, and my desserts tasted like they'd been sitting out and prepared for a while- souffle should be made and served immediately- it had definitely been sitting under a heat lamp. All in all- my favorite things were the salad and the smoked salmon appetizers, but for the price tag do yourself a favor and go elsewhere- there are plenty of other mediocre restaurants you can go to with way better people watching and way better service. Our server was extremely inattentive- didn't ask us for our drink order until we were on our third course- didn't offer to do anything to compensate for my uneaten dishes she was picking up- no apology, nothing. Very unprofessional.
One of the more unique settings I’ve ever dined. We walked in thinking it’s a dud, but the menu quickly dispelled those theories. After dinner dessert in the living room was incredible. Really cool fireplace with an elk over the mantle. Top notch all around.
Serendipity! Although it was challenging to locate the restaurant, we were rewarded with a very special experience. Brandon, our server, contributed to a memorable evening, and the rib-eye was among the best I've ever had. I would rate this restaurant as truly exceptional.
The ambiance at the Ranch is hard to beat. If you like cozy log cabins, this is a great place to be. It is a golf club by day and restaurant by night so you are situated right on the course in Keystone. The valet drivers to the wait staff were all very attentive and helpful. We were disappointed in the food. We both ordered the special (Tuna served over a curry lentil base with purple potatoes). The tuna was sold to us as sushi grade but was far from it - we both found it to be tough. The curry lentils had some heat to them but were otherwise flavorless. We ordered an oatmeal cookie dessert and the edges of the cookie were so hard that it almost shot off our plate when we tried to use our spoons to break it up. The drinks were great and the atmosphere is really amazing, especially around the holidays. At this price point I would expect the food to be exceptional, but it definitely fell short.
Absolutely appalling service for an establishment that hails itself as a top dining destination. After being seated, our party was left unattended for more than 20 minutes. When we attempted repeatedly to get the attention of a bus person to find our server, she simply stared back at us without any acknowledgement and walked away. We were about to leave when the parking valet of all people, approached our table and offered to get us drinks. When a server did finally approach, she apologized rather insincerely and made us feel unwelcome throughout the rest of the evening - avoiding us further instead of trying to overcome the initial neglect. We had extremely slow service throughout the evening with our plates left uncleared for more than 30 minutes after finishing our meals. The food was decent, but steaks undercooked. We didn’t complain as we had already waited over 90 minutes for them. It’s clear that this place is poorly managed. The servers, busers, and managers interests are not aligned which was readily apparent since we had so much time to observe them while we sat neglected. You could see and feel the friction between them. Your poor chef was let down spectacularly by the front of the house. FYI - comp’d drinks are no substitute for a personal apology from the manager who was MIA after checking us in. The only employee who showed superior customer service was the parking valet. Icing on the cake - we had to retrieve our own coats as the coat check person was missing. As Epic season pass holders for many years, we will be reassessing both our skiing and dining options going forward and vote with our dollars. Vail Associates owns this restaurant.
This isn't the easiest spot to find on a dark winter night, but it was worth it once we arrived. In fairness, they also offer free transportation to/from Keystone, but we thought we'd be ok on our own. I'd recommend using their service, even if you're familiar with the area. The food was really good. Only complaint was the escargot, which were a bit bland and not prepared as advertised. But the rest of the meal was excellent, the service was attentive but not overbearing, and the setting was warm and cozy - a not-too-rustic log cabin feel. The best meal I've had in Summit County - and I've been several places.
Eat there twice a year. Small problem this trip with the soup. We love the barley soup. I think my wife received a half portion and it seemed less hardy than previous trips. Told our waitress who said they would not charge us the $10 for it. They charged us anyway....most likely because they were busy. The steak was excellent and so we didn’t want to point out the mistake on the bill.
We went here for my 30th birthday dinner. The drive was difficult as google maps attempted to lead us through a fire emergency road which is blocked this time of year. It seemed like we were not the only ones having a difficult time getting to the restaurant as I overheard the host giving directions to a customer who was lost over the phone.
The ambiance is ok, nothing special, it was Christmas Eve night and I had expected a better ambiance than what we observed.
The service was good, very attentive servers.
The dinner choices were slim as there was a 5 course Christmas Eve special taking over half of the menu.
Food was delicious.
Tried Christmas Eve Dinner as locals. The usual impeccable service was nonexistent that night although they were NOT super busy.....had to ask twice for bread, wrong bill, non attentive. My tenderloin(rare) at $52 was cooked perfectly, but an inferior cut with fat and gristle for 1/2 of the cut. My wife’s fish was fine, although overcooked . Usually ordering steaks here is the best bet. If you can get a res stick with the Ski Tip Lodge rather than the Ranch.
My husband usually jokes around that I always find something to complain about, but our experience at the Keystone ranch was outstanding. there are a few things I usually pay attention to:
1- The service- Our waiter was very knowledgeable, he was able to go into details about the ingredients in our meal, the history of the unique building and restaurant and make some small talk with us. He was very nice, and professional.
2- The food - the food was cooked to perfection with unique surprising flavors, very nice plating as well. Do not skip dessert! you are in for a treat, but flavor and experience wise...
3- Atmosphere, authenticity, and design- The building is very unique, ask your server about the history of it around dessert time.
overall: we had a great time, it was not cheap but we were glad to spend the money on this wonderful experience.
We had a nice time - the ambiance in the restaurant is beautiful and it was decorated for the holidays, which added to the occasion. However, there were several screaming kids - I get that it is the holidays, but when you make the effort to go out for a grown up evening and others are letting their kids run around like crazy, it is a bit disappointing. Not the restaurant's fault, and I know it is the holidays, etc etc etc...but it did take away from our enjoyment of the evening. 3 out of 4 meals were great, and one was ok (the rib eye). The service was stellar. We will be back, but will make sure our reservations are LATE in the evening!
We went for our “Christmas” dinner/ birthday dinner for my husband over Christmas weekend. I want to say the service was exceptional. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and made wonderful suggestions. I had the buffalo tenderloin and would like to say it was FANTASTIC. With that being said I can not say I would recommend the rib eye. My husband ordered it and was very disappointed. He ordered it medium yet it was still slightly tough and just lacked any real flavor. I didn’t feel it was $50+ good. It wasn’t bad just not anything to write home about. He actually ended up eating almost half my tenderloin because mine was so good. As for dessert it was good but I honestly was expecting something a little better. Had the chocolate bomb per recommendation and although it was good I felt like the pepper was a little unbalanced. Wish I would have went with the soufflé. The kids meal was great and my son really enjoyed it. Service was prompt without being rushed. All in all it was a great night and we enjoyed ourselves.
This was our 3rd experience at Keystone Ranch. Each time has been better than the previous , they have all been great and we are looking forward to going back. I'm a single father of two little ladies and this is my 8 year old daughters favorite place to visit when we are skiing and celebrating her younger sister's birthday. So they both win! I have always found the staff to be very knowledgeable, attentive and give wonderful service. Food was excellent and prepared perfectly!!!
Keystone Ranch is a really special place. The historic building and setting contribute to its unique charm. The service was great and the whole experience was excellent. My only complaint is that, while the menu was full of mouth watering flavors, to our taste, the food was way over-salted. The brininess overshadowed the promise of the special flavors the chef created.
Thanksgiving Meal - not worth the price. The "Thanksgiving Special" was 35.00 which was so small even the kids went home and ate a sandwich. The only vegetarian option was a mix of 3 grilled vegetables. The appetizer, gnocchi, was dry and bland. They have a new chef and we were not impressed. That being said the staff worked very hard that evening and more than deserved the 25% tip.
Very impressive, love the food, It was spectacular....the feel was wonderful....love the bring drinks and desert and relax in the "living room" really special....the chef is amazing......our waiter was wonderful and we had a day early Thanksgiving to accommodate our daughter in college and spend time with our family before my husband deploys....they did an amazing job
Hard to find. Map apps did not find the place.
If I had not been there before we would not have made it. Food was all beautiful but both entrees were underdone. We complained and they corrected it. Delicious desserts including a great soufflé. They gave us a slight discount without asking but I must say considering the prices and dislocation involved in the meal nowhere near enough.
Very nice waitress.
We had a great time. It has been 15 years since we have been here last and this experience was better than before. It was great to see they have moved to an ala carte experience and Scott Smith, Dining Room Manager, and Chef Vincent Damato, NEW and AMAZING EXECUTIVE CHEF, knocked it out of the park. Our service was impeccable and the food was some of the best I have had in 15+ years in the restaurant business. Thanks again for a memorable experience.
We celebrated a birthday at Keystone Ranch. All of the waitstaff were amazing. They offered us a celebratory glass of champagne when we arrived and then let us work our way through the evening at our own pace. I couldn't decide whether to have the Mushroom bisque with a steak or the Gumbo which was the fresh catch. I opted for the bisque and steak and was very pleased with my selection. Much to my surprise, following dinner as we were moving the the living room for dessert, our waiter Brandon introduced us to the chef. The chef gave me a large container of the gumbo that I had also wanted and then kindly told me how to reheat it. This was a wonderful dining experience. Keystone Ranch is our new favorite place in Summit County.
We decided to try this restaurant again after a not-so-good experience several years ago when they only offered game. It was a wonderful experience from PJ as the bartender in the bar for a pre-dinner drink, to our darling waitress, Ashton. One of our meals came out cold but was quickly remedied and was delicious. I had read prior reviews that the food was salty and I must agree, but it was not overly so and I happen to like a touch of salt. We had our dessert (not so great) and coffee in the charming living room. Overall, it was the perfect place to celebrate the occasion. Ambiance like none other!
