The waitress didn’t ask how we would like our beef . She brought raw meat out. Mochi dessert took 20 minutes to come out and when it did it was melted . Then, the waitress disappeared and never came back. Had to get the check from someone else .

My wife and I had a spectacular 1 Year Wedding Anniversary dinner thanks to the hospitable and attentive staff at Katsu-YA! The chef sent out the bread pudding dessert compliments of the house, the manager came over and congratulated us and our waitress and staff were extraordinarily attentive. My wife and I can't wait to return often for the best sushi in L.A.!

I have been to Katsuya many times and brought a good friend from the East Coast who is in the food business here. We had a terrible experience. The waitress forgot about us for 30 minutes. Failed to bring two dishes, even after I asked after the 30 minute disappearance. Never came back to see if we wanted more, never cleared the dishes. I had to go find the manager to get the rest of our original order. I have never had to do that in any other restaurant. When our last items finally appeared, one was not what we had originally ordered. In addition the wagyu fried rice tasted of old oil and the meat was overcooked. My black cod was burned and dry.

Too loud for normal conversation. We were waiting most of the time for food to come. I’ve eaten at better places. More like a white man’s sushi place. Not impressed!

Another nice evening and wide variety of sushi and other items. Dragon Room is less noisy.

I must confess that, as a regular for many years, I have become disappointed with the changes in the menu. And for those items which they kept, some have different presentations. While still a terrific place, with these changes and a seeming reduction in the number of servers (or if the number changed, they have not been trained like the old ones), Katsuya is lower on my list of often-visit-reliable restaurants. Did they change chefs? The need an upgrade to match what their standards of past years.

My son and I went to Katsuya for Father's Day. I will not go back on a holiday like this. Very loud, babies crying, had to ask a busboy to call the server for me since he was taking too long to come to our area.
I enjoyed the food not the environment.

Food is good and consistent. Grapefruit martinis are the best there. They used to have a robata bar special with tuna and spinach that was very special. Could not get a dish like that elsewhere in LA to my knowledge (I had something similar in Munich once). The last time we went they took it off the menu, even off the secret menu. My wife and I were extremely disappointed by this removal. It will definitely decrease our patronage there as it was a huge selling point.

Food is always amazing! However, they sat us at a table in a hallway from one dining room to the back dining room/bar. Really bad location because servers and guests were constantly walking by. Initial service was terrible. We sat at our table for about 15 minutes before a single person came by. Finally I flagged a server down to ask if he could find our waiter.

Most excellent experience this time around
Food A +
Service B+
Value $ wise A
Noise level D although it was also Mother’s Day
Quite impossible to have or hear a conversation
This place is totally family friendly
It is like the CPK of sushi
While at the same time is the Westside Hotspot for all the beautiful people

Food was an A plus but when you note in your reservation that you are celebrating a birthday and then reconfirm that at check in and the waitress fails to recognize the occasion that is a faux pas that is unacceptable

An alright sushi experience. The generic fusion dishes seem throughout LA with little to differentiate. Where others integrate out of the box ingredients or exceptional quality and attention to detail, Katsuya wades trough the middle, passing but not excelling.
You’re paying more for the atmosphere, definitely not the grade of sushi or authenticity of dishes.

A little too loud.
Table not ready at ourbooked time (previous guests long gone, table just not cleaned up. so we were sent to the tiny bar to wait. Tiny meant 4 seats that were already taken. If they don’t have a bar that can accommodate waiting guests, they should manage their clean up better.
