We had a great time and love coming to Katsuya. We will definitely be back.
Was introduced to this place by my girl friend who eats here every Monday with her daughter for Happy Hour. Now it's one of my favorite place on the west side! Love it.
The host told us our reservation was at 8:30pm not 7:00pm and refused to seat our party at 7:00pm. They were absolutely wrong and it was embarrassing to us and our guests. Completely unacceptable.
Great food and service. Music is too loud which detracts from the ambiance of this excellent restaurant.
Katsuya is a favorite for the freshest sashimi and sushi presentations and flavor I have found on the Westside. Consistently excellent.
Restaurant was closed for construction but still taking reservations on open table
Best sushi hands down. Crispy Tuna Rice is a MUST!!!
Out with my kiddos! Pre-show
Very high quality of Sushi and Service..... well worth the price to most people, other than those on a budget. For my money and discerning dining palate, I wouldn’t go anywhere else for Sushi.
This was one of the worst meals I've ever had. I'd eaten at Katsuya before and had a really pleasant time -- which is why I was so shocked by how horrible everything tasted. It's as if the chef ran out of the requisite ingredients and decided to just wing it. I will not be returning.
We have been Katsuya
Sad to say but Katsuya in Brentwood has lost their way. The noise level was deafening...couldn’t even hear the person sitting next to you. Extremely rushed to the point where none of the found came out together instead it was delivered as it was ready..meaning a constant barrage of waiters and bus boys around you throughout the entire meal. While the food was good....you couldn’t taste it nor enjoy it based on the terrible ambiance. Unfortunately it felt like it was all about turning the table. We wot be coming back.
Our seating allocation was very poor and ruined what could have been a really great experience they placed us in the back room in middle of an empty room
When there was plenty of booths free all the time we were there and plenty of room also in the main restaurant
The hostess was nice, our server was great, the food was good. It's a great, lively place. The person who seated us could not really have been ruder, pretty much snarled. There were four of us, and when we left we each brought that up separately. Thank goodness she was not our server who was exceptional. The food ranged from good to very good.
Amazing food and service. The roll with the corn was off the chart! Everything was fresh. Everything was good.
We celebrated are friends birthday here. Food was great as well as service, will be back again.
This particular location is smaller and quieter than the others, and really benefits from that. The service was outstanding. By all means, splurge on the Omikase tasting menu -- worth it, and amazing.
Good food but overpriced. Ambience is odd -front area is ok but loud, back area is quieter but so dark you can’t possibly see your food.
The waiter wasn’t the greatest. And the food was so spread out that by the time half of my friends were done i still hadn’t got my food.
We’ve eaten here several times but pretty disappointed this time. Beef over cooked, fish under cooked, temperature too cold and music too loud. ,
Our waiter was very slow and overall bill was way too expensive considering that most of our party didn’t drink and we didn’t have that much to eat.
Like most of items. Waitress didn’t seem that interested in helping us pick or in taking back item we didn’t like. Noise a little loud.
Excellent food, excellent service and excellent ambiance. I was visiting LA and took my two sons there on their recommendation. We were seated in the back next to a few noisy women at the bar and the waiter was extremely professional when I asked to be moved to the front. Even though he lost out on the table (and the compensation), he made sure that we had a pleasant experience and was extremely genial. We will certainly return.
We have been regular customers since the restaurant opened in Brentwood.
We were 3 people for lunch , the sushi was not great as it should be expected from Katsuya.
The bill ,$136 without tip . No alcohol.
Check your neighbors around West LA. Maybe their restaurant is not so beautifully decorated ( btw, there’s a lot of deferred maintenance), but their food is delicious, fish quality excelent and lower prices.
Food was great. Service was trash
My lord this is awful food, used to love the chain but it’s hit an all time low.
Tough night for Katsuya! Inattentive service. Food was ok but not what you would expect for the price relative to other high end sushi places in LA. And the restaurant was overrun with high school kids in sweat pants and midriffs. We went to celebrate the close of a business deal and regretted choosing this restaurant. We won't be going back anytime soon.
One of the best sushi places in Brentwood.
A very unique and spacious place with valet parking. Food was good and service excellent
Ambiance is always lively and usually loud at night.
Miso black cod is perfection every time.
So is the albacore with crispy onions starter.
Watermelon cucumber mojito is super delicious!
Always wonderful food. One of the most consistent sushi houses on the Westside.
This was probably the worst dining experience I have ever had in LA.
-We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation was supposed to begin
-The service was slow and poor
-They forgot two of our orders
-Bathrooms and restaurant were extremely dirty.
We came here as a group of 4 for dinner on a Wednesday night. We had a reservation at 7:30 and were told that tables weren’t ready yet - even though I could see multiple tables available. We stood in the front of the restaurant for 20 minutes until we were finally seated a little after 7:50.
They sat us in one of the worst tables, right by the bathroom. I asked to switch to an open booth (I could see 3 of them) and was told that they had been “bought out” and were unavailable.
They eventually switched us to a booth that had a broken table that had napkins shoved underneath one of the legs as an attempted fix. We asked 3 different people to help us with the table and they kept saying they would “get the right person” but no one came.
Two of us got our food quickly and on time (the hot dishes - steak and fish) and the other two of us who ordered simple veggie sushi rolls sat waiting. And waiting. And waiting.
In between the waiting we had to constantly ask for drink and water refills because no one was staying on top of it.
Half the table was completely finished with their meals and the other half’s food still hadn’t come out by 9:30. An hour and forty minutes after we had ordered. We had also made it clear to our waiter that we weren’t sharing dishes because we all had different dietary restrictions, so he knew that we were just sitting there without food while the others ate.
We finally flagged him down and asked what was going on and he was able to get the food out to us about 20 minutes later.
The bathrooms were also really gross and looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in years. Overall the experience was really poor. This was my first time dining at this restaurant and I will not be back.
Our waiter was incredibly thoughtful, professional and knowledgeable. His expertise in helping us select our meal was so appreciated. The service was exceptional and the food absolutely extraordinarily delicious- truly one of the best meals I’ve ever had!
As always, this place rocks! Food is delicious (yellowtail jalapeno, tuna tartare on rice cakes, chicken salad, tempura sushi rolls) and you must try the burning mandarin, my favorite cocktail! All desserts are yummy but chocolate lovers rocked our world. Well done, we'll be back!
Great service and food ...wonderful lunch with friends and family ...
I got there when it first opened, so I was the only one there, which is why I’m not sure why the service was so slow🤷♀️... My food, especially the short rib was amazing and I would go there just for that, oh and whatever the roll is with orange makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The other thing that really was off putting, was the service guys walking back and forth through the dining room with there tools, it came off dirty😐 I have eaten Katsuya-HollyWood for dinner and have never had slow service or seen service guys just walking through the dining floor, so maybe that should be the common practice.
Poor service and moderate to low quality food marred our experience at this pretty and modern Japanese restaurant in Brentwood. The server managed to (very slowly) get sparking wine and a beer for my wife and me, but had to be physically tracked down to request sparkling water for our (adult) daughter. Cold and chewy (not crunchy) fried gyoza was eventually replaced with an obviously re-deep-fried preparation mid-way through the arrival of our sushi. The rolls and nigiri were on-par with a typical college-town sushi hole-in-the-wall, not a posh and fancy place in Brentwood. Very disappointing.
The Omakase was simply not up to the standard of the rest of the food usually served. Dishes were chewy (wagyu potstickers) and lacked refinement. The high point was the dessert.
I had a horrible experience at Katsura Brentwood. We went there for my son’s birthday. I ordered a bottle of champagne Moët Chandon priced at $170 on the wine list (extremely overpriced to begin with). They brought the bottle to the table and I did not realize it was the California version that sells for $15 at CVS. When I realized what happened at the end of the dinner I did not want to raise a discussion right there in front of my son and family and contacted the restaurant afterwords explaining the problem. The restaurant never even responded. We are lucky there are so many excellent restaurants in our neighborhood and Los Angeles as a whole. Katsuya is not one of them. I will definitely stay away from that place. Marco Rossi
Very disappointing when you have a reservation for 8:00 and are not seated until 8:40. We should up 5 minutes early - I hate being late for anything and at the time was told they were clearing tables and it should be a few minutes. The hostess was telling everyone that and finally have a half hour I suggested to her that it might make it easier on everyone if you didn't "fib" to them and you were honest by telling them that people were just not getting up and the tables were not turning as quickly as they had anticipated. There should be a way they could send you a message through the app to let you know that they are running late; heaven forbid that you ran late - you would get chastised for that and they also - which I find completely inappropriate - gave into people with terrible behavior and sat them earlier than others.
