Thank you to Uriel for his excellent service. Mimosas kept on coming without me asking for it. He was very knowledgeable with the menu and food.
I've been wanting to go there and finally made it, to celebrate my birthday and my son's and JOYA you did not disappoint. The food was delish!!! The paella was excellent!!!
Went here for the 1st time, for a birthday celebration, based on the reviews. Our experience was mixed. We ordered the croquetas appetizer (filled with corn and garbanzo beans - exceptionally good!), the mango & beet salad (the mangos were hard and the rest was just ok - wouldn't order again) and the classic paella, which was overcooked...seafood was tough and chicken was dry.
The waitress said the white sangria was really sweet, so we ordered the red. Not bad, but not great, and not worth $30 for a carafe.
The restaurant is beautiful, with a great ambiance, and the service was excellent.
We moved to the bar after dinner to discover they don't have a full bar, just the cocktails on the menu. However, the waiter went 'next door' to get what we wanted, as it is the same owner, so it was nice that he went out of the way to that, even though we offered to go next door ourselves.
Would only come here for the bar in the future, and maybe the tapas.
Great food and busy for Wednesday night. Service was patchy at best. This place - sometimes the service is great but this past time- strictly average!
Our server was not friendly and a terrible customer service. She looked unhappy, however the busser was great! The food was good!
We were a bit disappointed because food was simply ok. It was much better the first time we came in 2 month ago. Probably will not go back.
The service we experienced at Joya was very disappointing. Our server came to take our order, brought our food once it was ready, and then we never saw him again. Our drinks went dry and no one asked if wanted another; if so, we probably would have ordered more drinks. Our water glasses went empty. I flagged down a busboy to ask for more water. Once we finished eating, I tried several times to get the attention of our server who was flying by us, clearly busy with other tables. Eventually I got his attention to ask for the bill. He dropped it off and said "thank you" and that was it. It was clearly inconvenient for him to continue to have our table on his plate that night. Otherwise, the food was tasty, and Joya has nice atmosphere.
We were very shocked at how bad the food was - it was bland and starchy - and down right bad
A very good combination of tapas...............all were tasty and interesting.
The Tapas were good. We had Charcuterie and Octopus.
Paella was far from being the best I had. Wouldn't recommend it.
Great experience, would definitely return for another meal. Ordered paella and chicken mole, both of which were well made. The best part, however, was the tapas. Next time, I'll probably just order several of those. I would recommend the bacon-wrapped dates in particular; they were delicious.
Delicious food great ambience
Our waiter was very personable and the food was excellent.
I have not been to Joya for quite awhile. I have to say the food is not as good as it used to be. Sad. I really did like this place. I guess I will not be going back.
Need more veg dishes
Margaritas could be better
Benito was great! He took great care of us, he was very attentive to all of our needs.
The food was great. We had the Paella ad it was really good. We also tried the red sangria, it was also really good. I can't wait until I go back.
It was a good experience, Food was tasty and plentiful.
Tapas were great, service was great! I enjoyed the nice relaxing seating by the window. We are planning to return soon to try out more tapas!
If you are vegetarian, you will be very disappointed. Dined here for the second time with another vegetarian, hoping that the menu options would have improved since the previous dining experience in 2017, but we were again disappointed.
The only vegetarian option was the "guacamole and new world chips". The "vegetarian paella" was rather meh, having an odd smoky flavor (not quite mesquite, but something close). The only other vegetarian options are oily, deep-fried appetizers: "chickpea & corn croquetas", veggie "latin empanadas". These were very very unhealthy and not especially tasty.
Also, the mixed drinks were unremarkable. I ordered the "Dessert Heat" which was described as a "hot" or "spicy" drink (jalapeno) but couldn't have been more tame. I sent it back due to lack of "heat" and received a slightly more spicy drink, but still disappointing and not worth my money.
Overall ambience, service and location is good, but the lack of vegetarian options and average drinks will keep me away.
Joya is truly a gem right in the heart of downtown Palo Alto. Although a bit pricey, the food is great, the service was spot-on and all the window seating is special. Ask for Gary. He is my favorite Waiter. Tell him Mo said so!!!!!
It was my wife's birthday and she loves Joya, and she (and me) was not disappointed. We had some of her favorite Tapas, very well prepared, and a delicious Sangria. Joya gave her a complimentary desert - churros with hot chocolate sauce with a birthday candle (photo). We came early, around 4:30, and the restaurant was not crowded - it's a good time to come and relax. Service was great.
Having eaten here a few times, I have noticed the quality has gone down over time. It's a popular place and food is good, but not the best place I would recommend for Tapas.
Great food and lovely decor. I booked through open table and mentioned that it was our anniversary in the special occasion box. We decided we wouldn’t get dessert but they brought us out a free dessert for our anniversary. It was a nice touch 😊
Wait staff was not in sync. We were not offered water until I had to get up and ask. Water was never refilled during the entire dinner. Waiter was less than attentive perhaps due to restaurant being short-staffed.
The octopus tapas is definitely a must-have - perfectly grilled. The tentacles are a bit on the large side so it's not for those who are squeamish.
We were dining at Joya to celebrate a birthday and the ambiance and food were exceptional!
I used to love the food here, but the last time I went about half of the dishes we ordered were bland and uninspired.
Great! Great! Good! Good!
The food is okay but the service is not. I am kind of disappointed. The location is ideal at Pslo Alto.
The wait for paella for two was worth every minute.
One word... AMAZING
Holiday get together
Visiting friends and our original restaurant choice was closed for a private party. Lucky us! Jumped on OT and was able to book Joya, no problem. It was an odd time time, maybe 3-4 so we were told Tapas Only, thank goodness because they were fantastic! We can't recall the waiter's name but he is the good looking , part Japanese fellow. Super service, friendly, knowledgeable, engaging. He suggested upping the count on everything to 4 so we could all share. We had the cheese plate, charcuterie platter, dates, croquettes, ahi tartar, short rib tacos. All tasty and plentiful. All 4 of us really liked this place, you should go!
An excellent culinary experience in every way.
Service was mediocre, one order (1 out of 5) failed to arrive. We waited for five minutes and then asked about our missing order, and was told it needed up at another table. Place was not busy, so I’m not sure what happened. Food was just so-so.
Perfect family celebration; great atmosphere and staff service
I'm going to be honest here, Joya is all about the ambience. The food quality isn't that great and the paella that they make you wait 1 hour for is extremely bland. Ceviche is mediocre. Overpriced items, you will have better food at Reposado which provides a similar ambience.
We have been going to La Joya for special occasions for several years. Saturday night was the best it's ever been! Love the take on guacamole and chips, the churros were to die for.
We ordered the vegetable paella @ $30., the presentation was at best sloppy and should have never left the kitchen. There were large chunks of various vegetables that could and should have been bite sized. Worst of all were the large wedge cut pieces of red onion laid on top that were unpeeled and still had the root end with roots still attached.
Food was great but wait staff preferred to chat among themselves rather than wait on tables. Our server was 10 feet away and never looked over or came to check on how we liked our food choices. IT was pretty irritating.
