The food was not prepared well. My steak was so tough I had to cut it up in small bites to eat eat. The steak deburgo was only about three ounces of meat. The prime rib was ordered medium and it was brought out very raw. Our drink was forgotten and then when it was brought to us it was watered down. None of the staff wore masks.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed Johnny’s! Their chicken piccata was one of the best things I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Wine and bar selection overall was very pleasing. It was a perfect place to spend a nice date night.

To improve: make sure to take the ladies order first, don’t reach across the table to serve, no caps allowed by patrons; no kids running around/it’s no McDonalds; more space between tables during Covid; staff should have surgical masks.

I love Johnny's in Altoona. This was the 1st time i have eaten there since all the Covid craziness.
I was surprised that a restaurant of this caliber did not require the host and all servers to wear masks. I saw one server wearing a mask out and no other staff.
I may wait until the pandemic is over to go back.

Overall super food and service. Just beware when your server asks you about sides. Was asked about soup or salad. Chose soup. Extra $9 not expected. Also when asked about salad offered a bacon dressing and spinach. Thought he was just asking about what dressing I wanted but apparently this salad was an upcharge. So an extra $13 not expected. Bottle of wine, appetizer and meals plus the extra charges. $140 with tip. Will go again but be specific and ask about what is extra and what is included.

While the food was good the service was mediocre. No refills on drinks offered and when requested the server seemed annoyed that we wanted refills and further annoyed that some in our party actually wanted dessert.
With regard to COVID precautions...the seating was not 6 foot between tables despite the restaurant having a significant number of empty tables. No staff or servers were wearing masks.
While I have always liked Johnny’s, I was very disappointed in the manner they are addressing COVID, and disappointed in the service during this visit.

The food was good, but we probably wouldn't order what we did again. We were trying to order something different from our usual. My wife's baked potato was cold but she was overall satisfied with the rest of her meal. My steak and portobello were just okay, but it wasn't what I would typically order, so that was probably more my fault. I ordered creme brulee for dessert and was also not impressed. Our appetizer platter was excellent. The service was a little slow, especially for a Wednesday night and the meal was a little pricey. Overall, we will return again, but probably not soon.

The food was excellent.
Service was a little unsophisticated. Server did fine on most aspects. We took in a $100 bottle of wine we obviously would like opened carefully. Server couldn't cut the foil and ended up pulling the cork through the foil. Not the end of the world, but it would have been nice if she would have torn the frayed foil away from the opening after she was done...after all we did pay a corking fee. This has been my experience with the wine service at Johnny's in general (whether our wine or if purchased in-house)...if the management would spend 20 minutes educating the servers on proper wine service it would make the dining experience more impressive/elegant.
Also...really felt the servers should be wearing masks...some were, ours wasn't.

Had the lunch sirloin steak with peppercorn topper it was good. The appetizers were not as good as they usually are...The calamari was just ok but the sausage stuffed mushrooms were bad. The mushrooms were not good quality really rubbery and not easy to eat. They were not stuffed with enough sausage. WE did have the turtle cheesecake for dessert and it was very good.

My food was great but my wife's salmon was severely under cooked. They did take it off the check and gave us a free desert. We always enjoy Johnny's and this is the first time we've ever had to send something back.
The steak I had was perfect, the value was expected for a steakhouse, but I think the service should have been a bit better. My beverage was only filled once, hence why I’m only giving 4 stars. The service was just not quite there. Overall, 4 stars were earned.
We enjoy this Johnny's very much and hope to be back in the spring to sit outside on their lovely patio.

The bartender was awesome! We had drinks before and after dinner. Our server was excellent! However, our steak deburgo was undercooked. We asked for medium, but it was even rarer on the second try. We weren’t charged for it, the right move for a higher end restaurant, but it was still disappointing since it was our last evening in Iowa and we had heard this was the best steakhouse. We went with a friend who lives in the area and this was her suggestion fir our last day dinner together before we headed home. My husband’s NY strip was perfect. Loved the mushrooms!

We had a food allergy situation. Called ahead of time. Talked to the waitress several times. Made sure no dairy was used on dish ordered. 4 year old nephew took a bit of steak and broccoli and had a hive pop up on his cheek. Waitress was super rude entire time and came back and apologized that there was in fact butter used on his food. We were there for 2 birthdays and it ruined the entire vibe. Very Very disappointed.
Great seating and attention to detail by greeter. Gluten free menu provided. Waitress not versed in gluten free. Shrimp cocktail was very good. Family style salad very good. Entrees served warm. Hot bacon dressing was left off and then served cold. I asked to have it heated and it was served Luke warm. Service was good otherwise.
Food was great as always but giving 3 stars because I made reservations for Valentines dinner with my husband to eat a month in advance and when we got there, we were seated at a high top table in the bar where it was so loud due to a full bar/TV games that we had to yell at each other to have a conversation. Just disappointed that 1 month early reservations would allow for better seating.

I love this place! The only thing I didn’t absolutely love was the way our waitress reacted when we asked for our bill that totaled over $800 for 14 people be split... we thought it was weird that she assumed we were all together and didn’t bother to ask how we wanted to check, then acted like we were going out of our way to make her life hard.
However, otherwise she was very attentive, the food was amazing as always, and it continues to be my favorite restaurant in Altoona! The special that night, the salmon with shrimp and potatoes, was DELICIOUS!

We loved eating at Johnny's Italian Steakhouse! We arrived at the time of our reservation - which we made over the internet (VERY easy to do) and only had about a 10 minute wait before we were seated. The food was fabulous - fresh and warm when it arrived at our table. We only waited about 15 minutes from the time we gave the waitress our order, before our food arrived. Not bad considering it was Prom night and they were very busy. The ambiance was just right - we knew there were other people there because we saw them, however, it was quiet enough we could carry on a conversation between the 4 of us without even talking loud. Everyone working there that night was very nice and accommodating. I definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone! Whether you are on a special private date for two or are having a family gathering for 10 (or more) you get the same great service and the same great food!

Our steaks were slightly salty four our tastes. Otherwise, everthing was very tasty and well prepared. Our server Weston was great!

We have reservations for 6:30pm but we have to wait for our table we did not get table until 7:15pm. We feel like the reservation is over booked. It’s frustrating when making reservation ahead of time it to avoid waiting.
Hi Phay, unfortunately it is sometimes very hard to estimate the time each party will take at their tables, on a busy saturday night like the night of your visit, some guests tend to stay for longer than expected. We make every effort to get this timing right, and I am sorry we didn't do anything to make up for this. Next time!

Food was delicious and timely. The server was not interested in us being there and flooded our table with multiple courses without clearing the previous in what seemed like an effort to push us out as quickly as possible. Server did not try to upsell and was not engaged nor friendly.
