Food was fantastic! Both my wife and I did the four course meal which was absolutely perfect! We will definitely be going back!
Joan's in the Park was a wonderful culinary experience. The chef is a master in blending bright flavors and the presentation of each dish is an artistic masterpiece. The staff was knowledgeable, the wine list was appropriate for the setting. This understated store front restaurant is true gem in the Twin Cities. I highy recommend Joan's in the Park without hesitation. Bon appetit!
Totally recommend—highly creative and very delicious!
We had a lovely time here. Delicious food and delightful service. Certainly the place to go for a special occasion.
The intimate setting and personalized service was top notch. This was hands-down the best meal we've ever had. Owner, Susan is truly a gifted chef. We can't wait to come back and try different combinations of the four-course offerings!
The food is always amazing and the service is second to none. They’ve created an atmosphere that is warm, welcoming, and truly special. Love the recent updating. We had 5 people and each had 4 courses (plus the fabulous brown butter pudding desert), and afterwards we all had trouble picking our favorite because it all was so wonderful!!
joan's in the park was refreshing, small, environment and the food is really well prepared and fairly priced.
Outstanding food, with fantastic presentation. Nice, moderately priced wine list. Noise level was a bit high which may have caused some of the service errors that occurred. Overall, staff was friendly and attentive but mixed up a couple of our orders that may have been due to noise level
We had a party of six and we were treated to exceptional food and service. Our server, Dan, was the best. This place is wonderful for a special occasions.
Wonderful 4 course meal. Excellent presentation and flavor with each.
The four course menu is amazing. Our group of three all ordered something different for almost the entire dinner, so we all tried many offerings. Everything was delicious, but a couple things stood out, the grits and the noodles! Service was simply awesome.
Really good food. Really good cocktails. Service was top notch. Will be back
Once again, Joan's did not disappoint. Their four course meals allowed us to choose from a variety of selections for each course (one can choose a la carte, but less expensive to go with the 4 course meal). The evening was a birthday treat for me - table was decorated with shiny, fun confetti - Joan led us to the table and Dan, our loyal waiter, was there to greet us and take our drink order.
The food, as usual, was superbly prepared and beautifully presented. Susan, the chef, came to our table to be sure all was exactly as we asked for.
A wonderful birthday experience!
Every course was delicious. The wait person explained the menu well and made sure we had a great dining experience.
Excellent pork chop and chicken dishes, wonderful heirloom tomato salad--fabulous brown butter pudding, coupled with attentive service and a comfortable patio setting on a beautiful fall evening--who could ask for anything more?!
On our one night out where to find a white table cloth and WW friendly menu for a foodie while my mom visits to toast my father’s passing years ago. Sich a high mark was met by excellent flavors and reasonableserving sizes with room and points for desert. Mom had a wonderful time and will surely ask for more great dining next year.
Sublime experience in every aspect. It was our first time at JITP and we look forward to the next.
Perfect service, beautiful presentation and fantastic menu. Three Cheers!
Lovely evening. Professional waitperson who knew her menu; made wonderful suggestions. Food was so, so good, especially the grits. Can't wait to go back.
Love the new prix fixe menu and options! Group of five tried just about all of the menu items and all were fantastic.
What a great night.....LOVE< LOVE THE NEW MENU and the choices are all amazing. Portion sizes were spot on and each course had amazing flavors. The service is always A++++ and detail is there KEY! Looking forward to my next visit to try out more of the menu. Thank you for making the evening so very special!
Order the brown pudding for dessert....
The food and service were fantastic. Noise level was a bit high for my taste.
A professional colleague visiting from out of town and I had dinner here. It was our first experience with the new sampling menu. Each of the dishes was creative and most were quite delicious. The main entrees were especially good. A relatively small but excellent wine selection and the dessert was great as well. Highly attentive but not overbearing service. A little expensive for how much food we were served but still a wondering experience overall.
Always a great meal....great service as well....hidden Jem!
First time ever coming to this restaurant. The food quality and service were supurb. I was quite adventurous, ordering things I'd never had, or had and knew I didn't really like, for a couple of the courses. I confirmed I hate clams, but decided when done well like they did it beets and summer squash are ok. My wife was less daring and ordered items she knew she liked already, and she loved every single thing. It is pretty expensive for not a large amount of food, so the value gets only 4 of 5, but everything else was perfect. I'd strongly recommend it for a special occasion or date type meal where you're willing to spend a decent amount in order to make a good impression.
Joan's was everything we had hoped for and certainly lived up to the hype! Food was nuanced and utterly delightful! Wait staff was attentive and friendly. We will be back!
Excellent food and service as usual! We always enjoy the meal and the experience.
Wonderfully inventive food. The new tasting menus are very nice, and well-priced. The service is friendly and welcoming and accommodating, what you'd expect in a neighborhood place. And the new wallpaper is beautiful, part of a renovation well done. Thank goodness Joan's is in my neighborhood.
We had the tasting menu and I would rate all of the courses either very good or outstanding. The scallops were outstanding. I thought the bread was OK and the dessert was good, but not great. The Chilean sauvignon blanc was an excellent value.
This is the first time I’ve given Joan’s a lower rating than 5. Been there many times and usually have wanted to give 10 stars. But, something seemed off last night. Service was exceptional as always. Everything was plated to look gorgeous - I think it may be the new menu which I’m not sure I love. For the first time not every single bite blew me away. Thank goodness the brown butter pudding was still on the menu! Maybe just need to get used to it so will have to try again. Change is hard sometimes.
Loved Joan’s in the Park.. great service, yummy food, good for special occasions. Loved the feel of the entire place.. wish they had a more extensive menu. Would return more often if not so limited.
Absolutely fabulous from our entrance til the end! Can’t wait to go back! Thanks, Joan!!
Too expensive and menu too limited. I did not like that the only choice was the fixed price menu. While the food was excellent, especially the filet, the portions for the first 3 courses were so tiny for the price. My friend and I needed dessert to feel satisfied--and that was an extra cost! I guess I was expecting a neighborhood gem and instead found Joan's to be a pretentious "fine dining" experience. It was a once in a lifetime experience, but not one I will repeat or recommend. I think you should go back to the old menu. Sorry. I had heard such great things about this restaurant.
Outstandingly memorable. Always an enjoyable experience. Never disappoints.
My husband and I each ordered the 4 course meal. We ordered five different courses. We both concur that each of the first, second and third courses (five menu selections) were minuscule AND flavorless. My husband wanted to ask the waiter if they were a joke. Had the waiter not announced each item, we would have assumed he was serving free samples while we were waiting for our food. Our selections consisted of the following menu items: Fois Gras, Salmon Tartar, Heirloom Tomato, Cgarred Beet and Summer Squash.
We both ordered their market fish, which happened to be Arctic Char. The portion size was small, but adequate. The Arctic Char was superbly prepared and excellent. Our service was also excellent throughout the meal(?).
$240 later, my husband and I went home to cook a small dinner. This is our second time at Joan's in the Park. We were unimpressed after our first visit, but since they had only been open a very short time, we thought we would give the restaurant a second chance. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this restaurant.
Best restaurant in Saint Paul, food, service, wine and cocktail list alll outstanding
as always the food was exceptionally good. each course of the prix fixe was more outstanding than the previous one. went home satisfied not stuffed. the combinations of food was creative yet very tasteful.
on a scale of one to 10 i'd give it an 11.
I rarely drive 40 minutes for a dining experience; but Joan’s was so worth the trip. Let’s start with the casual local vibe balanced by clean lines and white tablecloths; serious dining but relaxed atmosphere. We had asked for a cozy table and it was thoughtfully delivered as were seated promptly with some extra recognition. It would be impossible to ignore the casual but attentive service. Joan and Susan are both very present and are equally delightful; we would love to share a meal with them some day. The rest of the staff was friendly, observant, helpful and charming. No-one walked passed an empty dish. Water never emptied. Wine was topped off. The effort never felt intrusive or stiff. This is a place that has tremendous continuity from ownership to staff and outcome; I expect that we will see little turnover in our future visits. We had a very minor snafu with the wine list and every step was taken to respond generously so we would not be disappointed and we were left further impressed. All off this to support a marvelous food experience. We would highly recommend the salmon tartare, squash purée (absolutely incredible), gnocchi, market fish (char) and brown butter pudding. No dishes were poorly prepared or oddly paired or constructed despite the inventive blends and preparation. Flavors were concentrated using excellent techniques and fresh herbs complement each dish. The delicate servings invite careful tastes that any foodie will appreciate; its wonderful to leave sated but not stuffed.
Leave the steak and taters folks behind this is a foodie experience.
Celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at our favorite restaurant. Exceptional food, every bite was a delight! Fun, warm, knowledgeable staff made the evening extra special,
Love Joan’s in the Park. The food is unique, and always delicious. Outstanding service and a great bottle of wine, plus the four course dining experience, made for a perfect evening. It was a10!
This has always been one of our absolute FAVORITE restaurants. That said, the menu has had major revisions since July. The only option is a fixed price menu and you choose one item from 4 columns for your meal. Judging from what was served our table, the first two options out of four, were comprised of two bites, tasty but not exceptional. The pork chop was very good but seemed smaller than the offering on the previous menu. My favorite appetitizer, steak tartare no longer offered as well as our favorite entree, roasted chicken. It’s an expensive evening and doubt that we will go as often. They also seemed short staffed as the service was good but very slow. Sorry to write that it was an overall unexpected disappointment.
