J House Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Our service was abysmal. I think it was the waitress's first night and no one bothered to train her and she had never been to a restaurant herself. It is too bad because other people at the restaurant were professionals- bartender, hostess, waiter we know there.
The food was excellent, extremely tasty and lots of choices. The ambiance of the restaurant was great as well. The music got a bit loud but it was still enjoyable. Service was good but the waiter could have been a bit more attentive. I would certainly recommend this to others.
We had a really lovely meal, in celebration of my birthday. The patio was amazing, and the food was wonderful. My only issue was the lack of knowledge with the menu. The server was not knowledgeable about the drinks, nor the food items - I should not have to be googling different items. This I blame on management for the lack of training/tasting - Our server was lovely and eager to learn the menu , only if she had been trained properly. I look forward to our next visit. Hoping things improve.
The J House for dinner is like going to South Beach. Beautiful outdoor seating. Food is good but the service is uneven. Lots of staff working but it seems like no one is in charge and simple things (salt and pepper for the table, a drink not well prepared, etc) continually fall through the cracks. Having said that , as an alternative in the Greenwich, CT area, I would recommend the restaurant.
If you don't mind parking far away and waking through Greenwich for mediocre food, J house is for you !
From the moment you drive up to the valet-less property and try to navigate the maze of often unavailable parking areas, you know you could have made a better choice.
Once you trek to the property and hope your street parking is in fact legal, you're greeted by an "am I in the right place?" entrance. Eventually, you end up in the dining area or bar.
From there, the drinks were just ok, the food an insult to the intention for a nice meal, and the overall blasé attitude is tres Greenwich.
So please try to enjoy! Because the attitude here is one of "we couldn't care less if you like it.
They gave us a very nice table by a fireplace. However it was too hot to keep it on. The service was terrible. Our waitress repeatedly told us she would be at our table but wouldn't come back. It took 15 minutes just to order a drink and the restaurant was empty at that time. She only cleared half of our dinner dishes and left us sitting there for over 25 minutes waiting with a dirty table. Our daughters birthday dessert was waiting at her station the entire time and by the time she served it we all just wanted to get home. There were plenty of servers, the place wasn't full so no excuse. Pizzas were good. Agnolotti was good but only received about 5.
The best place for a quiet lunch or dinner in town when you'd like a casual luxe and stylish ambience without the parking issues on Greenwich Avenue. The food also keeps improving, and is actually reliably fresh, well thought out, and yummy. In the warmer months especially, don't miss the outdoor space-- gorgeous and a little bit like southern California in the middle of southwest Connecticut!
Terrible!! $60 per person for Fathers Day brunch. The food was cold or dried up and basically eggs, chicken sausage, cold breakfast potatoes!! A smal helping of salmon and roast beef with no trimmings! My sister and her husband are visiting from England so we were 6 in total and this was the worst meal any of us have ever had!!
We really like J House. I would just recommend more vegetarian options- I noticed you no longer have the zucchini blossoms on the menu, and I believe at one time there may have been gazpacho-- you know that even though it usually appears on menus in summer, you don't have to stick to that unwritten rule. Other vegetarian options beyond pasta exist too- I don't know if your corn soup is. Egetarian, but you could make it vegetarian and have the rock shrimp as optional. For an entree maybe a Thai or Indian dish or something seitan based, or something with quinoa-- just some thoughts.
Thank you for letting me give you my opinion.
The service was close to non-existent - the sommelier had to bring us flatware to serve the dishes among friends because there was no waitress or bus person around. The waitress had trouble remembering the specials. Cocktail orders were taken 10 minutes after being seated. They ran out of the special we wanted. For the amount you pay, the service doesn't live up to expectations. Pretty restaurant, but you're better off eating at Prime in Stamford. It just felt amateurish.
