Ivar's Salmon House

Every year we come here for Copper River Salmon, and every year we are impressed with the experience.
I have not been here for 35 years and it was still a great place to take an out of state visitor. A little hard to get to, but well worth the drive from Puyallup. Keep up the great job!!
I was not happy with the quality of service and the qualify of food. I've been going here for years, and our last visit was the worst.
The food was mediocre. Poorly cooked fish. I requested my King Salmon rare, and received it way over cooked. They replaced it, but gave me the other King Salmon dish the second time around in error. Eight people at the table and no one “loved” their dish. For the price, there are a million other restaurants I’d rather go to.
Absolutely! Classic Seattle restaurant. We dined outside on a beautiful Mother's Day afternoon. Food was as good as it smells! A great way to step back to an earlier day in Seattle but still excellent.
Food was quite overpriced for the quality and quantity. Clams were not very clean, still had sand in them. Only delicious dish would be the Clam chowder of course. Our server kept us waiting very frequently. Thankfully the view made up for it.
Great place for Mother's Day Brunch. I was really impressed with all of the buffet options making it a really good value. And the Lake Union view is spectacular.
Mother’s Day brunch buffet
Mothers Day brunch can’t be beat!
Views are fantastic but the taste of food is so so
Great food and great views. Loved the fish tacos and the chowder is always delicious.
It’s all about the beautiful view. Ambiance is wonderful. Food was lacking. The service had the correct effort. I’d go back for a seat at the window.
Ivar’s usually does a beautiful job with fish. This was the first time we had to send halibut back because it was raw. Busy Mothers Day weekend.
Amazing view, excellent service, great food. I would highly recommend it!
My pet peeve in a restaurant is mediocre food for high prices. This was worse than that, it was below average food that was expensive. Although my cedar plank salmon tasted good, it was dry. My partner’s meal was disgusting. Like he said, it didn’t taste like a chef had cooked the meal. It tasted like someone who didn’t really give a crap, had chosen low quality ingredients to save a buck and was just trying to get food out the door cooked the meal. The presentation was bad. And how do you mess up vegetables? Ask Ivar’s because they did.
The service was good, although our server was run off his feet. Towards the end of the meal some other person came by and literally threw (not kidding, threw) a dessert menu on our table without a word and walked off.
The location is great, which, I think, is the only reason they stay in business because you can get better food off a taco truck.
Delicious food served by friendly staff. Great ambiance and fantastic views of Lake Union, Space Needle and cityscape.
Food at the Salmon House was subpar and felt like cafeteria food but the traditional items (fish & chips) that you can get from any Ivars was very good & the views of the city are uncomparable. Next time I'll skip the full service meal and just get food to go and sit on the dock which has better views than what the full service area has.
Enjoyed our evening sitting out on waters edge. Food was good ... but didn't enjoy having to pay for pre-dinner bread ....
Food was very good and definitely gave a local flair. That said, it's a bit pricey for a nice family gathering.
Try the halibut, Ivar’s knows how to cook it better than anyone!
We had a lovely experience in every way. Our guests from England enjoyed the Salmon House's celebration of First-People's culture, Pacific Northwest ambience, and views on a gorgeous spring day in Seattle, and they are now super-fans of Ivar's clam chowder and wild salmon. Thanks for doing an all-around great job, Ivar's! We love you.
Food was not up to expectations for price. Ambiance was excellent. View incredible.
Despite request, could not get a table by window although two tables by window, right by us, were unoccupied while we had dinner.
Service was slow, slow, slow! We arrived at 5:15 pm as requested and we had to leave by 7:00 pm (going to a concert) . Main course did not arrive until 6:25 pm.... The food was so disappointing that none of us regretted not having time for dessert and coffee. We were happy to leave. Only good point, the white clam chowder was as good as ever. Grade: A+. Everything else deserved a C minus or a D....
White wine by the glass was hardly chilled....
Food was over cooked, in the three different preparations we ordered between us four (nothing worse than over cooked halibut) and barely tepid when served. Two of us had “halibut fish and chips”: ratio of breading to fish was about 40% breading to 60% for the thin sliced fish. NOT WHAT ONE IS EXPECTING FROM A SUPPOSEDLY REPUTABLE (?) Restaurant....
A very disappointing evening. Both couples agreed we will not come back. May be, we might come back at the carry out window, but not in the restaurant which is WAY OVERPRICED (two appetizers, three glasses of wine and one draft beer and four main courses, two of which were fish and chips and the bill came to $218 before tip!!!!!!!!) and OF NO CULINARY INTEREST.
Ivar must be turning over in his tomb to see what happened to his “crown jewel”.
The decor remains fun and the view rather exceptional, especially on this gorgeous Opening Day
This is our absolute favorite place to take out of town guests for a great PNW dining experience. Excellent food and Brad, our waiter, was very engaging. While we were lucky enough to get a window table, the views from anywhere in the restaurant are great. Watch for boats of all kinds and sizes, rowing, Canadian geese with their goslings, and float planes - not to mention the drawbridge and great architecture. I am ready to go again!
A very nice lunch on a beautiful day overlooking the water. Food was good, Services was fine.
Food was great but the restaurant was absolutely freezing.
Our view by the window was amazing but food quality and price is not match. For a $36 salmon dish , I would expect some nice presentation more than just carrots and beans. On their menu description says there is horseradish but I don’t taste or see it at all. I see the recommendation on the worth it show and the price is actually $11 higher in the Restraunt , even if the show was from 2 years ago, I still don’t think they should increase their price for so much...
view was amazing and food was alright, not up to price point. restaurant was super loud
We celebrated 2 birthdays. We asked for a window view table and only had to wait about 10 minutes. The dinners were excellent, especially the salmon sampler dinners with 3 different salmons. It made for a memorable birthday celebration.
I had mentioned that it was also a birthday when I made reservations yet there was no mention of it when we were at the Salmon House.
When our server arrived he seemed to appear like we were taking up his time. I had to ask him his name. He warmed up some through the dinner but he really did not want to engage. We were his only customers when we ordered.
The food was great as i expected, the view was nice though two of us had our backs to it.
I have such nice memories over the years we have come but I do not think that we will come again.
We attended the Easter brunch buffet at Ivar's . The food selection was nice with some great seafood options. The setup however is a bit tough. It would be nice to see the stations broken up a little more into smaller areas so that you don't have to wait in a line for a couple of things you want. The afternoon was spent more waiting in line for food than enjoying time with our family. There was only a few minutes when we were all at our table at the same time. We've been to other Easter buffets with a better experience.
Wonderful Easter Sunday Brunch experience for my entire family!
Loved the service and the food. Way to make a holiday so special!
Beautiful location and view. Great Easter buffet and wonderful service. Had a wonderful time. Thank you!
The view is superb, that and the art alone worth coming for. The grilled sockeye with huckleberry sauce and corn pudding was very good, and the grilled sockeye on Caesar salad also-except the Caesar dressing was bland and added no flavor; same for the croutons. I was surprised and disappointed that Ivar's is still serving Chinook. Service was great. Overall, an enjoyable and pleasant dinner.
Iconic views and decor. Well cooked, traditional cuisine highlighted the quality of the fish.
As always the food was great, the view was wonderful and the service was great also.
The food is always spot on, service can be excellent or iffy. Let them know if you don't want you fish to look like sushi when it arrives, that seems to be the current trend in seafood restaurants
We had a table in the corner along the windows and the view was spectacular! Our server was friendly and efficient and helpful with suggestions. The food was amazing - my daughter had the classic fish & chips and I had the Halibut and rhubarb special. Both were cooked to perfection.
We went for happy hour that is available in the bar and adjacent area. We were lucky enough to get a window table as the the clouds were breaking and the blue sky over Union Lake - incredible location. Really nice happy hour menu with very reasonable prices for excellent food. Definitely recommend.
