Island Lava Java Bistro
Full Bar, Great Wine list
Service and food were good, but atmosphere was not. The sunset was obstructed by telephone wires
risotto tasted only like salt. Server acted totally fake and made us uncomfortable
Lovely evening and another great meal at Island Lava Java. The wait staff, David and Lexi, were outstanding and made this a five-star experience :)
We always enjoy the mixed menu, featuring many organic and locally sourced ingredients. I also appreciate their attempt to limit single-use plastics, their commitment to be Styrofoam free, and their certification with ocean-friendly restaurant program. Will definitely be back again soon!
We were greeted and seated right away. The table had a reserved placard for us. It was a busy night. The ribs were awesome. I was told the New York strip was perfect. The poke appetizer was excellent. We also had a brie wick was baked and blackened with prawns on top. I will remember it always...
Beautiful ocean view and great food.
Great brunch-- everything was delicious! Fresh squeezed juices, kona coffee, etc. Our waitress was attentive and quick. Get a table on the porch for a lovely water view and nice breeze.
We used OpenTable to make reservations and added in oceanfront as a special request. We were seated right up front with a fantastic ocean view! All of the staff were great! Very friendly and very efficient! The pizza’s we ordered were very good!
Food was very salty, and pizza not good. Service was great.
Good food in one of the best locations in Kona. We always love watching the water for sea life and all the activity that goes on. But they don't rely on just their location the have excellent food and a great happy hour.
Too bad this restaurant hasn’t pulled it together since it moved. What a beautiful location, but terrible food and so so waitstaff. This wasn’t our first visit to Lava Java, as locals, we want to support island owned businesses. Each time we have left the restaurant unimpressed and disappointed. This last visit will be our final one. We should have known when we walked in, as the place was empty and all the neighboring ones were overflowing. The waitstaff was polite, but, no enthusiasm or interest in making our visit memorable. It was a job that she obviously didn’t care about and that was it. The food was tasteless with very poor presentation. My salad was watery as the lettuce wasn’t drained and the dressing had no taste. The ahi was chewy. The fish sandwich was a chunk of fish, about 1/3 the size of the bun, with watercress overflowing with little or no sauce. The French fries were tasty but not appealing to look at. They restaurant offered to comp the meal, but we paid and left. Please get it together as Kona needs good restaurants.
Service is laid back, but very good ....... food is good....portions are large......afternoon seating was great with excellent view
Had our nephew and his girl friend visiting from NYC. They loved Lava Java. They were all about eating fresh fish while they were here. They shared an order of fish & chips and the fish tacos along with a green salad. The deemed the meal awesome. My husband and I had salads...me the smaller caesar with the daily fresh catch and my husband the smaller Ahi nicoise. We had an appetizer of the blackened brie just to try it and we each had either a glass of wine or beer to start. The total with tip was $107.00. Our server, Alysha, was excellent.
My husband and I walked here (2 miles) in the morning for breakfast. The Luau omelette and island style pancakes were delish. Definitely worth the four mile walk. We'll be back for sure!
Great food and super friendly staff.
Great food, service and ambience.
Definitely one of the best ocean views on the island.
Great food with an even better view! Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere, whether morning, afternoon or evening. Highly recommend!
Great birthday dinner, service, food and oceanfront ambiance!
First place we come to when we’re at the Big Island. Love hearing and seeing the ocean just across the street. Best lattes in Kona. Food is spectacular!
Great food and service!
Two of us sat at the bar as the outdoor tables were getting some rain. Wonderful view of Kailua Bay with canoe racing going on. The service was terrific. We enjoyed the margarita pizza, thin and with a taste tomato sauce. My rib eye steak was cooked perfectly. It was very large. The hamburger was large and juicy with excellent fries
Being in Hawaii, this is a great place to eat right on the ocean. Open air atmosphere.
Will try elsewhere as they are truly living on past
Nice place to eat and watch the sunset in the evening, tho it can be windy.
Service was excellent, menu is rather limited but the salads are great.
Excellent spot next to the water. Great cocktails, great service. Would recommend!!
Nice restaurant over looking the water. However they do not credit you for your Open Table reservations - no points received.
Dustin was awesome, great food and great view
Service slow and weak
Did not bring everything together forgot a couple of things
Only worth going if you want to look at the ocean.
Thank you for the Mother’s Day rose. Very much appreciated!
They were accommodating as far as seating requests. However dinner didn’t go very well. They can’t really accommodate allergies which isn’t a huge negative. We expected that but what we didn’t expect was for my wife’s salad to be brought out with the kitchen ticket in the food. We cancelled the rest of our order and left. The waiter was good and did his best to help. Drinks were good and the appetizer was okay. This place is right across the street from the ocean which is nice but really there isn’t much else going for it
Fast service and great food, especially the desserts!
Everything that I look forward to in a great restaurant was present. From the moment we walked in to the final drink, we could not find any fault with anything. I chose the restaurant because they had a spectacular 16oz ribeye that was cooked to perfection. Wife and I enjoyed every moment and will be back soon
Great location, friendly and attentive server and tasty food.
Disappointed. We tried the new location and found an oddly disparate menu, very uneven service and poorly cooked and presented fresh fish. Stick to breakfast and burgers.
The fish was tough and overdone in the fish taco and not that flavorful
Stopped in during a leisurely walk and had a great experience.
Great breakfast during our Kona get away. Dining area has a lovely ocean view, all open air, making for a delightful vacation breakfast. Pricing was reasonable, service attentive.
Dinner was okay. The drinks were okay. Service was great and if you have dinner they allow you to take some pastries home for breakfast, which was nice. The food wasn’t amazing but the atmosphere and service make up for it.
Love the location, perfect for date night or a special evening. Locals and vacationers are there.
Aloha, met with our BI realtor for a quick biz lunch. Fresh beet salad & added seared ahi to it. Very yummy. Other's had the fish tacos which look amazing too. Enjoyed our meal.
