Island Lava Java Bistro
Full Bar, Great Wine list
I love sitting by the water - its in such a great location. I choose to go there because they always have a vegan option that are very tasty, healthy and fresh!
Good food in a fabulous setting. Great pupus for happy hour. Service is sometimes slow but always friendly.
Ate there for breakfast and at happy hour. Both excellent service and food. The view is the ocean so can’t complain.
Outstanding breakfast and looking at the ocean! I would recommend this place to everyone.
It was well worth the trip. Enjoyed it very much. The service was awesome nephew the sunset
Excellent service and food. Location is easy to get to.
This is an excellent restaurant. We went to the old Lava Java and liked it then, but were worried when it moved to the new site and expanded surroundings it might lose some of what made it so unique and wonderful -- NOT TOO WORRY. We have eaten there twice in the last few days. The meals were wonderful. The guava ribs are the best ribs I have had - succulent with lots of amazing flavour. Had a pork chop the other time ands it was equally good. Service was great - cheerful and interested. Good location to watch the sunset. New location has a liquor license and bar that makes superb Mai Tais.
The fish was deep-fried,and overcooked. There ought to be more healthy options in the way your fish is cooked..baked grilled,. Steamed....
Mai tai were delicious. Tacos and fish were marginal.
Great spot though!
Nice view, good service.
It’good to go in the morning for breakfast.
Friends had recommended this place. Except for the pizza and sweet potato fries, the food was disappointing. The calamari was similar to onion rings. The service & environment were excellent though.
Always a great place to eat, especially during their Happy Hour time when food & drinks are half off.
Our waiter was friendly and efficient, the food is good and the view of Kailua Bay is lovely.
Nice and comfortable location, service and food. Improved required booked table but not recognized us
We love Lava Java! Food and views are amazing!
GREAT food and service! Best burgers on the island.
Great food and service.
Fun place on Ali'i Drive. Good food, good service, except this time, service was excellent and attentive!
We showed up late for the last reservation of the night. Even with that, we were served at a pace consistent with a nice casual dinner. We were given the space and time to enjoy our Valentine's dinner. And the food and drinks were as good as the service.
This was 6:30pm on Valentine’s Day and they were very busy and the meal and service suffered. We have eaten here many many times as well as their previous location down the street. The meal is typically is very tasty with obvious great, fresh ingredients. Service typically ranges from excellent to the server missing in action. This night they got it all wrong and we were hugely disappointed. I will go back and I will still recomended because I’m trusting this was a blip on a busy night.
Not for dinner. The fish in the fish and chips was just barely above frozen fish sticks in quality, obviously processed instead of chunks of real fresh fish. The chips (fries) were overdone and seemed like they had been prepared a while ago. Calamari appetizer was OK, but when we asked for more shiracha aioli, we were charged $.50. Considering our total bill before tax was just under $100, it was an insult to charge for two additional tablespoons of aioli. Will never go back for dinner nor will we recommend it to others
Food was good. Waitress started out great and then seemed to forget about us. Only asked if we wanted more drinks when we were almost done eating. Drinking were empty most of the meal.
The drinks and four different breakfast entrees were delicious! Calvin provided efficient and friendly service. Pleasant outdoor seating with a good view and nice music in the background. Do order their cinnamon roll. To die for! Definitely a place to go for a real treat.
My wife & I went there for their happy hour menu (not the first time). The food was excellent (as always). The service was excellent (as usual). And the view can't be beat. Upstairs overlooking the street & ocean.
Fantastic service, food and views!
Awesome! We went twice in 2 days! Such a fun place!
Right on Ali'i Drive so you can watch the sunset and the ocean all at once. Their food was once special and unique seems is more pedestrian and not a great value. I'll pay for unique and special.
Island Java Lava was very nice. Thankfully, We got a reservation, as they were turning others away. We got a table facing the waterfront and saw the beautifully sunset, while we had a lovely dinner. The food was average to above average (calamari, fish tacos), the coffee and dessert (carrot cake) were awesome! Parking was a nightmare and it was cold out, so bring a jacket because it was worth it!
We LOVE Island Lava Java. We first tried your restaurant in 2018 on our first trip to the Big Island. The next year, we talked about it AT LEAST every weekend. It was our first stop on our 2019 trip. We visited three times in the week and a half we were on this lsland, twice for breakfast and once for lunch. We can't rave about you guys enough. The service is awesome, drinks amazing food great, and location - you can't beat. See you in 2020 - we can't wait for POG mimosas and island style pancakes & waffles!
Big Fans from New Hampshire
Great food and fabulous service!
The food here was outstanding. Had the macadamia crusted ahi and it was stellar! Service was amazing and the view was unbelievable. Couldn’t have been happier with our choice to have dinner here!
Not same quality food as the Old Lava Java.
Good good and enjoyed the ocean view
Lava Java is good....breakfast,lunch or dinner. GREAT location. Friendly staff.
First their on line menu must be updated both the meals are not the same on their in restaurant menus and on line menus are different as are the prices of meals.
Our experience was great after being lead upstairs to the upper portion of the restaurant where only a few diners were finishing their meals. A closed bar upstairs made us feel like you guys can eat in the back room away from the other customers.
The food was good, service spotty with only one server working the complete upstairs area and was gone for long periods in between her returning to check on us.. food was served but we had know sliver ware to eat with....
Great happy hour and fun atmosphere! The ribs and fish tacos were amazing!
Good food great views
Always great food & service. And the view is to die for.
There were 5 of us for breakfast. It was wonderful. From the moment that we all arrived it was one of the most enjoyable meals we have had since we got here. I love that you can get reservations for breakfast, no waiting. From the fresh pressed pineapple juice, the great Kona coffee, to the macadamia nut pancakes, we were all very happy and full when we left. One thing that made me happy was to be able to get a chair without arms. Being comfortable when dining out is really important to me. We liked it so much, we are going back again before we go home!
This was a nice place - just the gluten free items really are not gluten free at all - everything GF on the menu is somehow cross contaminated. Leaving you with minimal choices. This always bugs me - they have it on the menu as GF, I call and ask - then I get there and it is not really GF at all.
The quality of the ingredients is excellent and you can taste the difference. We had a cinnamon roll this time and it was delicious as was everything else we had! We come back every year for breakfast.
