Ironside Fish & Oyster
Little Italy was built by the fishing industry. Ironside attempts to continue that narrative. It's our contemporary interpretation of the classic fish house and oyster bar. Located in a historic auction house on India St we did a full comprehensive restoration of the building, with three open-air culinary hubs featuring an expansive raw bar, chefs table, and bakery. We tried to be mindful of the past while looking towards the future.

My husband and I went for my birthday. The food was good and our martinis were great. Our server Andrew was very nice and attentive. It was all a bit kitschy though and felt like they were trying a bit too hard. The oysters were good, the first round that came with the martinis were average so we ordered a few more of another variety and they were great. The octopus was delicious. The tempura cauliflower was undercooked though and not very flavorful. The crab cake had way too much filler, not enough crab. The bone marrow stole the show although I could hardly find the lobster that was supposed to be on top and for which we were charged an additional $10. Desserts were hit or miss, the pavlova was kind of a mess but the banana pudding was delicious!
Delicious fresh seafood. To get started we did the bigger platter which was perfect for 4. Allowed everyone to try a little of everything. Did the spot prawns and octopus a la plancha (favorite dish) to share along with the fried cauliflower and zucchini salad. Lastly all shared the 2lb rock fish which was cooked to perfection. All great and well presented. Amazing experience. Highly recommend
I would give 5 stars but my halibut was way overcooked. This was highly disappointing since this is a seafood restaurant, so they should know how to prepare fish. The cocktails and other dishes were all 5 stars, so I’m not sure what happened to my meal. I would’ve complained but no one promptly checked on us after I’d taken a couple bites.
Great spot, food is always great. Drinks were well made. Atmosphere is lively.
The server was weird and uncomfortable. Had a reservation for 7 but didn’t get seated until 7:20. Strange
WAY Overpriced!! Food was ok but nothing special. Fish and chips $18 for 3oz piece of fried cod. Bone marrow oscar literally had maybe 4 specs of crab meat. Lobster roll was the only thing that was actually worth ordering.
Excellent service and even better food!!!
Great food, phenomenal service and delicious cocktails as always!! Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. Great for all occasions.
nice food but it’s expensive than expected. If party size is bigger, you should see the empty wallet.
Ironside is the perfect brunch with girlfriends or date spot. Great food, fun cocktails, it's everything San Diego and especially nice on the patio during sunny days.
The service was amazing. The food was awesome. We had an outside table and even though it was super busy and bustling, it felt like a private table for me and my wife.
Great food and great service!
Great food. Loved street side table. Hit happy hour for good cocktails and oysters.
Decor/ambiance phenomenal. Drinks good. Oysters practically nonexistent in shell, the opposite of plumped. Like eating skin. Clam chowder good, crab cake good, lobster good. Not sure if we will be back.
Great to have you back! Always terrific oysters and great service!
Everything is excellent as usual.
Great service and great food
Food quality high. Food preparation POOR. Every single dish was loaded with salt. All four diners independently stated that their own dish was overly salty.
I left a solid 15-20% tip for our server because service was good. But the food was a major let down for a place I have been told by others is one of the best in San Diego.
Yummy! Nice to entertain out of town guests at a wonderful restaurant!
First dining experience here - and definitely will return. Appreciated the anniversary recognition! Helpful advice on oyster selection, excellent cocktail, and entrees. Interested in exploring more of the menu on future visits. Nice to sit outdoors - but would be best if all traffic going by could disappear (not their fault - just the current times).
Great place for a special occasion! Get the lobster a la plancha!
The food was amazing, the ambience was beautiful and our server, I think his name was Andrew was perfect. Very knowledgeable about the menu, gave us just the perfect amount of attention. Will return definitely!!!!
If you like the life in the heart of “Little Italy” the location of “Ironside Fish and Oyster” is prime. The seafood is always fresh and delicious. The drinks strong and fairly priced. We ate oysters and enjoyed well mixed drinks while we people and dog watched. We also had the mussels which were plump perfectly cooked and the broth was so fragrant it was like wonderful soup. Our waiter was professional, personable and added to the wonderful customer experience we received. My friend and I were celebrating my birthday and the fact we hadn’t seen each other in over a year due to covid. It was a memorable time.
Great oysters, wine and service. Mussels were outstanding!
This place is above and beyond perfect with all the nautical nonsense! I’m in love and can’t wait to go back. Also every single person working there was just the best, so damn sweet, great recommendations and amazing service
Love it every time. Such a great place.
Service wasn’t that great. Went during
Excelente lugar .. pulpo a las brasas .. lo mejor
This place (and all of their restaurants) never Let me down.! The chefs choice oysters..the bread..and get double because you’ll want more. They get everything right. Octopus, wine, service, the chef is truly a mastermind.
Delicious!! Ceviche is a must order!! Great location and great vibes
Great environment, Excellent seafood selection and cocktail selection.
Great choice for our bday celebration. Food and wine were excellent and our server Olivia was phenomenal! Reservation was easy and reliable. Will be back.
I was 15 min late when I tried calling and they made me wait 30 mins to re sit me
To start off the place is so cute, it has so much detail. The quality of the food is absolutely amazing. We got clam chowder, chowder fries, octopus a la plancha, spring mussels, and Parmesan spinach oyster. The service was also great. Everyone was professional, helpful, and friendly. Presentation of food and drinks were just great.
Like the place
It’s good but overpriced. I ordered the scallops (2 tiny ones) for 16.50!!! That was pretty ridiculous and a total rip off.
Everything was so delicious, best meal in SD
Best scallops ever! The halibut was amazing and the clam chowder was really really good too. The Oysters Rockefeller were sub par, dry from too much breading, but overall 9/10.
Waiter was terrible, everything else was pretty good.
Ironside was perfect for Friday Night Date Night! The food was EXCELLENT as always! It was definitely a busy night, but the service was also great 😊!
