Inn Kitchen + Bar at The Squam Lake Inn Ratings and Reviews
Anytime we EVER return to the Lakes region we will make a point to get ourselves to Squam Lake Inn. Beautiful, tasty, creative- Wonderful service with friendly & helpful tips on what was the best on the menu. Local ingredients, good portions, and don't say no to dessert.
Squam Lake Inn Kitchen and Bar is one of our very favorite restaurants in the Lakes Region.
The staff is well trained, the chef is imaginative and the ambience is inviting.
Often we take the opportunity to enjoy all that it offers.
The owners are warm and welcoming.
Great Experiences await diners.
The Inn is a treasure, filled with friendly people, delicious food, and an ambiance that feels both like a neighborhood favorite and a tourist must-go. It's casual and welcoming and the fish is very fresh and the vegetables very local. Make sure you save room for dessert because the famous ice cream sandwiches made out of home made cookies and ice cream from the Sandwich Creamery are positively fantastic.
We three had a lovely high table on the patio (the "California table," according to our waitress) and an unrushed meal of cheese plate (delectable), fried chicken, baby back ribs, and salmon cooked on a plank, plus one ice cream sandwich split 3 ways. The salmon came with wonderful zucchini "spaghetti" and sauteed grape tomatoes. All the food was good, although the charred artichoke accompanying the salmon was mostly too tough to eat. Our waitress, Laurie, was excellent: pleasant, helpful, attentive, and personable. We will ask to be put at one of her tables next time--especially an outside table, because we overheard other patrons who were leaving the dining room talking about how hot it had been inside. This restaurant will become a fixture in our annual friendship reunion on Winnipesaukee.
Squam Lake Inn Kitchen and Bar never disappoints. Starting with the great wine list, custom and innovative cocktails and a relaxed friendly atmosphere this is a must visit in the Central Lakes Region of NH. Oysters were just right with the proper sides, our meals were spectacular. I had the swordfish with majestic caprese salad and my friend had the salmon. Clean plates. We moved to the bar for dessert and a cocktail. This is a great place, the owner is in the kitchen, the quality is outstanding and consistent with great variety. Just don't take my seat at the end of the bar....
Although there was some confusion about our server, once someone was given our table, he was outstanding.
Food was well priced for the quality and presentation. May have been the best meal we had in the many years we have been coming to the area.
Can't wait to go back.
Restaurant was great but very pricey for the atmosphere. My only complaint is that we had to wait for a table to be set up, which should not happen when you book through open table.
I usually feel like I get a better table when booking thru the site, but not there!
This is a very special restaurant; open in Spring, Summer, and Fall, in the beautiful Lake Region of NH. The ambience is very intimate; the outdoor dining is on a beautiful deck! The service is warm, gracious, and very friendly. The local ales/beers on tap are special; the wine list is quite limited; however it provides an excellence selection across red, white, and sparkling wines.
While the scallops are a house specialty, I had the excellent buttermilk fried chicken (scrumptious!!!). My wife enjoyed the vegetarian delight, highlighted by fresh mushrooms!
We love the local restaurant in Holderness, NH: Squam Lake Inn.
The food is fantastic and the service is very good until they become very busy. Our server had too many tables to cover and we waited a long time in between courses. We were the last table to leave for the night and moved inside due to the bugs biting us.
Be advise in summer heat, if you eat indoors it is very hot and uncomfortable. We ate outside one night which was cooler but were attacked by many mosquitoes that forced us to leave.
The second night we had a reservation for the indoor dining room due to the heat and we wanted to be in air conditioning. Well they had not turned it on yet and it was 7pm. The heat in the indoor dining room was unbearable. They could not move us outside, all the tables were spoken for. So we left and went to a restaurant that had air conditioning and very good food in Plymouth.
Really need better planning when weather is hot and humid.
The restaurant was very noisy. They need to do something about damping the sound. We sat in the main dining room and had to change tables as we were near the bar and it was extremely loud. The table we moved to we still had a difficult time talking .
The food was very good.
Eating at Inn Kitchen + Bar requires a bit of effort as the web-site does not come up easily on the internet and directions on the various mapping services are less than ideal. For whatever reason, the Squam Lake area of NH has few good restaurants and those that are there (like this one) are not always easy to find.
Our attempt to book a reservation on OT did not give us a time we wanted but we took what was available (6:15). But a separate e-mail directly to the restaurant for a different time yielded a more desirable 7:15 reservation - thank you, restaurant.
We arrived early, on purpose, to enjoy a drink in the bar - which was an excellent experience. The woman who was the bar-tender was friendly and professional and makes a fine drink. The bar is small, with a window behind it, and it was an all-round pleasant experience. My wife had a terrific beer - Firestone Luponic Distortion - which she said was one of the best beers she'd ever had (and she's had plenty). Unfortunately, when she ordered a second we were told that the keg had run dry and that there was no more to be had.
Dinner, outside on the patio, was a more pleasant atmosphere than expected: despite being a crazy-busy holiday weekend, there was a lull at 7:15 and it was quiet and pleasant, with a lovely light radiating off the red barn behind us. Food was frankly a bit disappointing - good, not great. I'd asked for my scallops to be "cooked through", not translucent, and they came just the way I'd asked that they not come - so back they went. Generally, food flavors were modest and just didn't seem to be very exciting…decent, but not special.
If we lived near Squam Lake (we don't) we'd try Inn Kitchen + Bar again.
I've been to the Inn Kitchen and Bar many times; food is always excellent. However lately I've noticed a wide range of competency amongst the servers. It's a small place so I can overhear other servers doing a great job describing the specials, the types or oysters, what's on the cheese tray today, etc. Our server had a lackadaisical attitude, was alternating between being slow and then rushing us during our meal. When we made our reservation we had asked for a specific server, and although he was working that night, he was waiting on other tables. We love the Inn Kitchen and Bar at Squam Lake Inn; it's our favorite place; I just have to figure out how to get a competent server!
went with daughter and her family. Service was excellent, menu choices for all including the 15 yr. old who cleaned his plate, Cioppino was delicious, and we loved the ice-cream sandwiches.c
Patio dining was all sold out but we ate on the screened in porch which was very nice. Although seated next to the bar, noise level was not intrusive. Nice clientele.
We have frequented this little charming restaurant for lunch over the years but this was our 1st dinner. The food was very good...it was a hot evening and there was no "cool" spot inside or out but we had a lovely time. The server was attentive, the price was reasonable and the menu was very diverse. A great meal out!
We had a delightful evening. Everything was fabulous! Food and service. Seems like so often you get one or the other-- not at Squam Inn! I would have to say that Squam Inn is the best 'true' dining out restaurant in the Lakes Region area. I have been here for a casual get together dinner with a friend, but it was delightful as a lovely dinner out with my husband to celebrate our anniversary. Everything cooked to perfection and the pairings were so right on from the cheese board to our main entree.
