Ilima Terrace - Grand Hyatt Kauai Ratings and Reviews
Went In for Christmas Dinner. We were seated in the back and had nothing to look at but the wall. Asked to move which was done right away. Wait staff was wonderful and helpful. Food was good and fresh. I think the buffet was well worth the money. It was so fresh and tasty.
We would recommend it to everyone.
Thank you for a wonderful Christmas Dinner,
Had a wonderful experience! The food was really good and our server Irena was absolutly fantastic. Having been born into this industry and a former employee of Four Seasons Resorts in Hawaii, Chicago and Costa Rica, my family and I have a firm background to draw from. Having said that,... yes yes, yes, we will be back next year for Thanksgiving. I would have given 5 stars except for our table that was right up against the waiting line to the carving station. We felt a bit cramped and I was a bit nervous someone was going to dump a plate of food on my father. Champaigne took that edge away and we settled into the meal and experience just fine.
Arrived for our brunch reservation. Were seated immediately. It took awhile for the waiter to show up to explain how the brunch worked, but he was very attentive after his first check in. The food was excellent, many different choices including lobster, crab, fresh fish, and prime rib. Lots of fresh fruit and salads. The brunch was expensive but turned out to be the only meal we ate that day. Great for a special occasion. Very memorable Easter brunch.
The place looked AMAZing! We changed our table before we even sat as it was right beside the buffet not the place to seat guests, good idea for next year to remove those tables altogether :)
Also a drinks menu for this day would be greatly appreciated for the price of my champagne I could have got a martini :(
My husband and I wanted to spend the day together starting with a nice brunch, so I looked up all of the christmas brunch menu's we choose the Hyatt for the crab legs and prime rib for my husband he said the prime rib was exceptional but was disappointed in the crab legs they only had a cold option and he LOVES to dip the warm legs in drawn butter :)
Me I was there for the salads, the NZ green lipped mussels and the prawns all I can say is LUCKY for me I can eat Salmon, the prawns were tasteless the salads ho hum and the prized green lipped mussels just a smattering on top of the salmon dish :(
Now the salmon dish was definitely a Winner!
The dessert bar, dried fruits and cheese board also a Winner! The gluten free christmas cake was really yummy too :)
All in all the rating....I know this was a buffet but I come from a family of chefs and worked in the food and beverage industry for over 20 years and seen and tasted some amazing buffet's this buffet I rate as a low 6, the venue and ambiance a 9, the service at the table a 7, the service on the floor at each station 9, the snooze under the chicken tree upstairs a 10 Priceless photos :)
We had four generations celebrating Thanksgiving, and everyone was quite happy. The Ahi Poke was tasty, although the quality of the Ahi was only above average in our opinion. The desserts were popular, the other seafoods and turkey were very good. All in all, very good quality and freshness. Our server was excellent.
The Grand Hyatt's Ilima Terrace Restaurant at Poipu on Kauai is a lovely and scenic location for lunch or dinner. We enjoyed a Christmas dinner there, and fully enjoyed the excellent buffet, the beautiful weather overlooking the beach, and the friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended.
We had a nice buffet dinner for Thanksgiving. The variety of food was good. We would have preferred warm crab vs. cold crab, or melted butter, but couldn't find it. However, the quality and taste of the desert and salads/fruit assortment were wonderful and everything tasty. My kids loved the li hing pineapple. The pineapple was so sweet and juicy. It was a simple touch, but they appreciated it! Service staff were friendly and pleasant, despite the crowd. Our family enjoyed the Thanksgiving buffet for the first time away from home.
We will recommend the restaurant for a great buffet and family atmosphere.
Went here for our Thanksgiving dinner. The food was good for a large buffet service.
The problem spots: overcooked dark meat turkey, non-iced sushi, slightly overcooked lamb (though it depended on when you went through the line), inedible rice pilaf.
Highlights: excellent steak (had rare) that was very tender & flavorful; stuffing & mashed potatoes were excellent; shrimp & crab legs, poke; dessert bar: lemon meringue tart, mango mousse tart. & brownie rice squares were big winners.
We were lucky enough to be seated at the best table in the house! Right by the waterfall where there was no one around us & no people had to walk by us to get to the food. We had up close & personal look at one of the swans. Great time had by all!
I've never been here for regular menu items, only the holiday buffet. It was the best buffet I've ever been to! The food was amazing as was the service. The view was nice as well, although we weren't lucky enough to get one of the really good tables. Everybody was so extremely friendly even though they had to work on a holiday. It was pricey, but well worth it. I would definitely recommend and come again.
Ilima Terrace outdid the self with their Thanksgiving Buffet! Displays were abundant and a feast for the eyes. The food was amazing and provided excellent choices for all pallets. To have Thanksgiving with a direct ocean view only made the meal more delicious. A true spirit of Aloha was alive at Ilima Terrace! Thank you Grand Hyatt Kauai.
Because we live here on Kauai, most hotels, restaurants, and some clothing shops like Hilo Hattie give discounts called "Kama Aina". These discounts are given to local residents and I guess to encourage locals to enjoy the resorts and to repeat visits. I found out about the discount because our waitress over heard my conversation to my wife about some activities in our neighborhood. She asked if we lived on Kauai and got our bill adjusted for the "Kama Aina" discoun; of course you have to show some identification to prove your residence. It would be good if there was a place on your site where a local could check "resident" and get the discount without asking for it.
We liked this spot very much. The food was excellent and plentiful. The service was outstanding and friendly. 35% of the tables do not have beach/ocean views, however. Even though we arrived early for our reservation, we could not get a table facing the ocean. This did not much diminish an excellent dining expereince, however!
