About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for fine wines
  • Charming
Il Terrazzo Carmine, owned and operated by Carmine Smeraldo, is one of Seattle's true dining anomalies - a highly successful restaurant with unfailingly high standards and a loyal, sophisticated clientele. The cuisine has been acclaimed as Seattle's best by the media and more importantly, by local diners.
Il Terrazzo Carmine is located in historic Pioneer Square - nestled in an urban-renewed alley with entrances through the vintage lobby on First Avenue or through the delightful courtyard in the back. Since 1984, Carmine Smeraldo's classic Italian restaurant has been where the locals have chosen to return over and over again. From the Carpaccio Di Bue and Spaghettini Dell 'Ortolano for lunch to the Suprema Di Pollo Farcita and Zuppa Di Pesce for dinner you will know you have gone to a place where excellence is a way of life. Arguably the best Italian restaurant in Seattle, Il Terrazzo serves classical Italian cuisine with an atmosphere you may want to call home and never leave

The service is typically attentive, making it a popular choice for special occasions. If you're looking for authentic Italian flavors in a refined setting, it's worth considering! Try the rigatoni bolognese

The service was outstanding. All the staff are very attentive. Portion size was good. Our party of 8 was there for over 2 hours. Bread and appetizers came out quickly but took a bit for the main courses. I read that the inside noise level was high and I agree. At times it was hard to even hear the person sitting right next to me. Would definitely recommend.

Consistency is why I’ll keep coming back to Carmine’s. The food is amazing, the service is excellent and if you get a table in the upper level is quiet! Also the location is great for those of us how live across the water!

Excellent dining experience in all aspects. How refreshing, in a world of mediocre (or worse) restaurant experiences, to finally enjoy a night out for a meal and service made with love and passion. The atmosphere is beautiful and tasteful; the service impeccable, polite, professional, friendly and thorough without being pest; the food absolutely scrumptious, beautifully presented, with portions that are generous-without-being-gluttonous. The cocktails, robust and balanced. Worth every penny, and still reasonably priced for the amazing quality and experience. I requested a different pasta than the original entree came with, and was accommodated without the blink of an eye. Our reservation was for my husband’s 65th birthday celebration, and he was discretely presented with a declicious pc of excellent tiramisu at the the of our meal. Nary a drop of sauce was left on our plate with the shrimp/mushroom/primavera appetizer, but I wouldn’t dream of leaving what was left of my lobster pappardelle entree (I requested linguine instead and was granted the request), so a server took it and promptly returned with a bag containing my leftovers. My husband scooped up every drop of the sauce of his Cappellini de Mare entree. The bread basket was refilled generously each time we emptied it, with warm, crusty bread and generous mounds of quality, cold butter. Thank you for restoring our faith that maybe the American restaurant industry is NOT lost, after all! Bravo!!!

I just can’t represent, in this small space, what an exceptional dining experience my wife and I had. I have traveled extensively domestically and feel comfortable in saying that this may be the finest Italian restaurant we have ever been to. The service, ambience including dining experience will be remembered, and I will be a big advocate when making a referral. Thanks for making it a memorable evening! We look forward to coming back soon.

We ate on the patio for the first time and really enjoyed it. The dining room when full can be pretty noisy, and we enjoyed a lower ambient volume. As for the food, it never disappoints. The cauliflower soup remains a mainstay for good reason; it is so delicious. Our two guests were knocked out by it. As always, the daily risotto was excellent. After having cacio e pepe at Roscioli in Rome (which many critics say they make the best in Italy), Carmine's rises to the occasion. Liked it as much as in Rome. We had not been to Carmines in the past year or two, and we did note the prices have increased substantially. That said, the meal and our evening were exceptional.

Beautiful hidden gem in Pioneer Square. Elegant ambiance but in a cozy comfortable relaxed sense. Service was excellent and food absolutely delicious. The fig salad and scallop risotto were outstanding.
