There were four of us who are rather demanding diners. One of us have hearing problem. Nevertheless, we could carry on a conversation with having to shout for the benefit of one of us. We all agreed that the food was excellent and reasonably priced. The menu offers excellent and diverse choice for our taste. The thin bread with cheese and prosciutto was unique and excellent. My sole was flavorful and not overcooked. My wife is usually picky on pasta but could not stop telling me how good her linguine vongole was compared to others she had recently. The other couple both had veal scaloppine and liked it. We all agreed that the meals were reasonably priced and hope that you would keep it that way so we can come back again. Best wishes,
Fresh Seasonal authentic Italian fare. Everything at this place is excellent. If it ever isn’t they make it right with a smile. This is why I go out to eat there are still little gems out there producing amazing quality without pomp and circumstance. The owner is the Chef and his wife works the front of house. Great people great food
I don't remember the name of my pasta entree, but it was lacking flavor. The waitress said the sausage in it was hot Italian sausage, but it wasn't the hot Italian sausage I buy to cook with - it wasn't "hot"....The limoncello dessert was yummy!
Food was great, courses take a bit, but understandably so since it was Valentine's night. There was a blunder from the kitchen and other server, but our server was transparent and apologized, which was nice. Kitchen definitely seemed understaffed though, especially on a busy night. Sat around 8:30, wasn't out of the restaurant until around 10:15, again it was a busy night, so I can understand that. Server and manager were very kind to give us another round of wine and a free limoncello for the blunder. Overall experience was a solid 4/5 stars, if the food was just a bit quicker, I would give it 5 stars easy.
We love this place, but Valentine’s Day was way too busy and a bit of a disaster
food was good
Went with my wife for Valentine’s Day. They had a preset menu which was not unexpected, however for the prices being charged the portions were small. The food tasted fantastic and that was the highlight of the evening
The service was abhorrent. It was a four course menu and we waited 40 minutes between our appetizer and salad course. During that 40 minutes we never once saw our waitress. After that wait she finally arrived and said “you haven’t gotten your salads yet?” Maybe if she had bothered to check in on us she would have seen the issue. We had barely started our salads when the entrees came so we had our salads and entrees together. We constantly had to ask for refills on drinks as well. Dessert was just ok.
For $200 for dinner for two, I expect commensurate service, not at all like we had.
We might try them again since the food was good, but such bad service will definitely give us pause in the future.
This review is specific to the Valentine’s Day dinner last Friday. We came in at 545 for an early reservation to avoid the crowds. We were seated across from the open kitchen. One of the waiters and the chef were arguing about the menu and we can heard profanity and let just said the experience was less than romantic at all. We asked to move to another table and the host was gracious enough to move us. There was no regular menu only pre fixed menu for Valentine’s, I wish I checked and verified ahead of time. My baked fish in a parchment paper was $85. Anyway, we usually had a great experience and really enjoyed the food. But we won’t be coming back for Valentine’s Day going forward.
Food was delicious, service was exceptional, and the waiter helped us pick the perfect wine. Overall great experience. Would definitely recommend.
Amazing food and service. Best Italian restaurant in Orange County.
We were in the area for an event. And, this place seemed like a reasonable place to have a ‘business dinner’. The wait staff was excellent. The food was good - more like ‘above average’. I always like going here - and it’s ‘sister restaurant’ in Laguna Beach. It’s where I go for my ‘Italian food fix’.
Everything great except place was very cold
Donna and staff did an excellent job of providing attentive but respectful service. The wine recommendation was the perfect compliment to our well prepared, delicious meal. The limoncelo desert was fabulous.
Six stars, really!
Great food and service.
Had a really great time
This is my husband's favorite restaurant. As a vegetarian, he loves all things pasta, and he thinks this place has the best. If we can't go to a steakhouse (my first choice), then I can be happy here eating fish, veal, chicken or beef. The salads are really delicious, too. Occasionally, they have homemade butter cake or creme brulee, and then my husband is really in heaven. Great wine list, as well. The place is beautiful and we enjoy the atmosphere very much. Highly recommend.
Service outstanding. Wine outstanding. Salad outstanding. Had the ribeye special and shared the home made pasta special with the table.
Desserts also outstanding.
Highly recommend for anyone in the OC area in need of a great Italian experience.
The welcoming by the owner herself Donatella
Makes you feel you are entering her home
The specials are so amazing
I had the Dover Sole SUPERB
My guest SSF ha di the Ossobuco loved it
Grazie Il Barone
Food very disappointing... Caesar salad good....fish , pasta and desserts were poor
Food was ok but nothing special... especially considering cost....$405 for 4
It's always a lovely experience to dine at il Barone.
Service has dropped very slow kitchen. Food is not what it once was.
From the greeting at the door to the Expresso with Canoli this is a true Italy experience !
Delicious foods and very nice services
The food was good but not excellent enough (for the cost) that I would return. I had Penne alla Arrabiata, which is traditionally spicy hot, and with tomato pieces. Mine was not spicy at all, and the sauce simply looked like a tomato sauce. It tasted good, but I expected excellent.
The Margarita pizza was good, but not as good as we had in Italy.
The basket of foccacia bread was good, and was served with a green pesto sauce, I believe. But I would have preferred a basic virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar to accompany the bread.
Excellent food and great service
This is a pleasant and welcoming Italian restaurant. Noise is moderate so a table of 4 can actually have conversations. We did ask them to reduce the volume on their 'background' music which they happily did. Food is good quality and well presented. Oso Buco was terrific. The Dover Sole was a little tough and served with more sauce than our group liked but very tasty. We will go back again - it's a nice locals find.
A bit noisy dining here during ‘Christmas party season’. I could barely hold a conversation during my business dinner. I asked to be re-seated, and was denied. It did get quieter once a large party was seated. The food is quite good. The wine is adequate. It will be a ‘do again’ - if I go in with lower expectations.
Lovely. Food was delicious.
Il Barone decor is a beautiful modern elegance
The holiday decor adds sparkle to the ambiance
Our dinner was perfect
The facci was good, however pastas were mediocre. Got the linguine vongole and some $60 special pasta with oxtail and truffles. The pasta consistency for both dishes was a bit dry and clumpy. Possibly old batch of pasta. Ive dined there at least 4 times and remember their pasta being better and more moist. Might have been a bad night for them. Desserts were pretty good. Their pistachio gelato and lemon ricotta cheesecake was good but their chocolate cake with vanilla gelato was just okay (not worth ordering imo)
Food was amazing and Service was perfect. As always, very warm greeting from Donatella
Simply the BEST
I was looking forward to checking this place out, but I was disappointed. I waited at the front desk for a long time before anyone greeted me. The pasta dishes were good, but so so.
Franco creates amazing dishes. From the calamari friti, ensalada, butternut squash ravioli, wild boar bolognese, all were exceptional and perfectly done.
I highly recommend ilBarone for lunch, dinner or any special occasion.
Lawrence was great!
Hug from Donatella the BEST!
Our favorite Italian, anywhere! Thank you for making our daughters birthday so special!
Excellent food and casual enough to bring our 9 year old twins.
Very disappointed. Food quality mediocre and priced very high. Waiter smooth talking and misinformed. We brought friends from LA and were embarrassed by the poor food and misinformation from the waiter.
Really great food. The beef stuffed pasta was really good. Decent service.
