Centrally located in historic downtown Charleston, Husk transforms the essence of Southern food.Led by Executive Chef Travis Grimes the kitchen reinterprets the bounty of the surrounding area, exploring an ingredient-driven cuisine that begins in the rediscovery of heirloom products and redefines what it means to cook and eat in Charleston. At Husk, there are some rules about what can go on the plate – if it doesn’t come from the South, it’s not coming through the door. The restaurant is as casual as it is chic, evoking a way of life centered on seasonality and the grand traditions of Charleston life. It is a neighborhood gathering place for friends, and a destination dining spot for travelers, with a little bite of the South for everyone’s palates.

I was very excited about dining and Husk and the restaurant did not let me down at all. It was an incredible experience. So much thought was put into flavor combinations and textures and ingredients. Service was quick and very attentive - but make a reservation. A couple tried to walk in ahead of us and were told the next available table was not for another hour and fifteen minutes. Small, intimate dining room so not loud either. Overall an amazing experience and will definitely be back / recommending Husk to everyone I know.

Get the flat iron steak. The food portion was tiny, and not just the steak but very little in the ways of sides. Also it was served cold as if it sat out for a while, which is probably what happened as we waited forever for the food. With that say the food was really good!

I’d recommend some options for kids and there was literally nothing on the menu my 9 year old would eat. Combine that with my tiny portion and it meant we immediately had to go to another restaurant for lunch after this “pre-lunch”. Shameful.

Server was outstanding. Food was not good. Mixed salad was bland. Just lettuce, with half a brussel sprout and 1 radish slice, nothing else, awful dressing. Cornbread no flavor, dry and burnt. Pimento spread itself was good, but topping was terrible, overpowering pickle. Shrubs drink was not good. Butcher sandwich was so greasy, it ruined the sandwich. Dessert menu was not appealing, so we skipped. After all I heard about this restaurant, we were so looking forward to it and it was a huge disappointment. Food was awful. Perhaps changing the menu daily, does not give them enough time to perfect each dish. Not worth it.

A wonderful farm to table experience. We went for brunch and were not that hungry. For such a difficult place to get a reservation, the ambience was very relaxed and unhurried. The service was excellent. Bloody Mary’s, torn biscuits with chicken gravy and eggs, and the special omelette were the perfect “light” brunch.

The meal & service were outstanding as always. My only disappointment was hoping for a quiet dinner with my husband and being seated amongst several extremely loud bachelorette parties. We were shouting across the table.

The grits were the best I've had and the shrimp were cooked perfectly
Great location. I would like to try their outdoor seating (in warmer weather).

Everything was great. Only negative was upon arrival the hostess was busy on the phone instead of putting the call on hold and assisting who was in front of her. We had to wait until someone else came up to assist. This person also had to wait until the hostess was off the phone to seat us.

Food was amazing but our waiter was horrible. He was not nice or friendly, not helpful with the menu and actually made us feel uncomfortable and that weren’t welcome. Other than that, everything was great. I would go back but would definitely move tables if We wound up with the same waiter.

Went for brunch during Charleston restautant weekend. was a bit disapointed with our brunch. Omlete and chicken fired steak were just average. Enjoyes the cheese grits. But based on it being a highly recommended restauant we did expect better. Services and atmosphere were both great. Would try again for dinner.

I had been to Husk several years ago (and the one in Nashville since then, a truly incredible restaurant) and I had heard from a few Charleston locals that it had gone "down hill" over time. Unfortunately our dining experience confirmed that. I made a reservation through Open Table months in advance for four and when we arrived they had us down for two. I showed them my confirmation and was still somehow blamed for the mix up with no apology from either of the hosts. Our waiter brushed it off with a "sorry for the slight wait" but the overall dining experience was definitely not worth the trouble or the cost. And that comes from someone who lives in Manhattan and is very comfortable with a pricier meal. The cocktails and the venue are the only reasons I would ever go back and needless to say, being in Charleston, I can safely find both of those at similar quality or better elsewhere.

Our second time at Husk, this time we tried lunch. It was delicious as we remembered. The shrimp and grits are fantastic, I don't know what their secret is but both times we have had them they were wonderful. Atmosphere is lovely and the service was excellent. Now one of our favorite places in Charleston.

I love Husk and was very much looking forward! The food was fantastic as usual but a big table of very loud and somewhat intoxicated woman took over the noise level and the ambiance. What a shame! I found it impossible that the staff could not find a way to ask them to tone it down.

Our table ordered the Jimmy Red skillet cornbread to share which was phenomenal, especially with their pork fat infused butter. The Midnight Run bourbon cocktail made me a lifelong bourbon drinker which is all that needs to be said. For an entree i ordered the Heritage pork chop which was exceptional and full of flavor. Overall it was worth the month long wait for my trip to Charleston and all of the hype surrounding this establishment. Southern food will never taste quite right after my dinner here.

Heard raves about this restaurant but left disappointed. We did go for lunch so would try again for dinner. I had the butcher's sandwich (?) which was excellent. My wife ordered the fried chicken which was a skimpy portion with lots of fat and gristle. She was served a leg and a thigh - not the meatiest pieces of a chicken. She gave me a bite and I had to spit it out due to the gristle. Bojangles has better quality chicken (-:
Also, skimpy on the vegetables. She left hungry.

Steak was pretty bad. Very very tough. Surprised a restaurant of this caliber served such a bad steak. Otherwise everything else was good. Service was great, server apologized for the steak.

It was a wonderful and delicious experience! We were celebrating our last day, New Year’s Eve, in Charleston! We enjoyed the Brown Sugar Chicken Wings and the Arugula Salad for an appetizer! Yum! I loved the Brisket Sandwich with Home Fries, My Son loved his Shrimp and Grits and my husband ordered the Fried Chicken. We all tasted each other’s dishes and they were all FABULOUS! We finished our lunch with a gooey and sweet Oatmeal Pie with homemade ice cream! We can’t wait to return and enjoy another GREAT meal at Husk!

The food was hyped, and has been for years. But we found, in our first visit to Charleston, that the food lived up to all of it. The flavors were out of this world, from the cornbread to the quail and greens inside a succulent sauce, to the 24 hour sous vide pork belly wrapped in its shoulder. The catfish, served non-traditionally in an Asian/fusion style, was a hit.

We are foodies and this was our first trip to Charleston so a reservation at Husk seemed a must do. The location, decor, service and overall professionalism of the staff was fantastic. We did find the farm to table menu options limiting, and for us not all the flavor combinations worked.

Possibly Husk is coasting to a degree since the founding chef is now in Nashville? While we have no complaints on Husk, we also don’t feel the need to rush back there either.

Were seated in the upstairs dinning area overlooking Queen Street, room was much louder than it should have been, likely due to poor acoustics.
