First of all, we love this restaurant.

We had been waiting for a chance to dine in again and this was our first go at it. We made a reservation and were seated immediately. Our waiter was very good. We did not get the bread that is normally served. When we asked about the bread, we were told that the baker that makes it was not working as yet. We both wanted ribs for dinner but were told they only had one order left. No table-side salad. It was 5 pm on a Sunday. An early dinner in San Diego.
I am sure as things get back to normal the services (bread and salad) will be back on the menu. We will go back in maybe a month. But I will confirm before I go that they have these items (Ribs, salad, and bread). I can't fault the waiter that these were not available. I would recommend this place to all who like a good meal and a good atmosphere.

The food was pretty good overall. I was a bit turned off by the board at the hostess stand with all the things they would not do or accept from their clients once you sat down with them. I just thought it was a bit over the top for a nice dining establishment.

The Prime Rib was very tasty if not a bit dry on the larger piece. The wait staff seemed a bit rushed and struggled to take time to let the patrons know what was available i.e. specials.

Would give them another try.

One of the worst steaks I’ve had but the rest of the food was not too bad. Also it felt like we were being rushed through the meal by the staff, we weren’t even offered desserts by the waiter.

Unfortunately, this was a huge disappointment. The problem is that quality of food for the price. The salad, rice and filet mignon looked like something that would be served at a very low-end chain restaurant, not anywhere near the level it should be for $28 - $40/per entree prices. The atmosphere felt grimy, old and dark, we could have been at Dennys. Will not be returning.

Valentine's day night and it was very busy. Our waiter had to many tables. A steak was very undercooked but with the wait for food we just left. He tried but the kitchen let him down a bit.

First time here and not the last! The waiter, Scooter, was considerate, thorough, kind and professional. This restaurant offered a great Valentines dinner. Very rare to find a restaurant that meets all criteria! Definitely recommend!

My husband and I were a little late to the game when it came to making reservations for Valentine’s Dinner this year. It was a week before Valentine’s and all of our usual favorite places were already booked during our preferred time range. I used Opentable to find another option and that’s how we ended up celebrating Valentines Day and Hunter’s Steakhouse. We chose to order off of their special menu. We each got a shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, we both ordered the table side salad, I had the Prime Rib and Lobster tail and he ordered the Filet Mignon and Lobster tail. Everything was delicious!! Bit the Prime Rib and the Filet were cooked perfectly Medium Rare. The lobster tail was amazing and I really enjoyed the added touch of the candle set up to warm the drawn butter. Our server was super attentive and came by at just the right frequency, never intrusive, but always right there when we needed her. We really had a wonderful experience. I look forward to our next meal here!

Our waiter was terrific. Always asking how we were doing and polite. Got the order right and served our food at the pace we wanted it so we could enjoy it all. Our waiter was nickname Gizmo. Food great especially the prime rib dinner. Moist & tender. Always had great service here and that's we always come back.

Took our friend for a birthday dinner. Unfortunately, there was a VERY LARGE and LOUD group celebrating someone’s 60th BD. They took up half of the large dining room and should have been in a room by themselves. We DID NOT enjoy our dinners because they acted like it was their PRIVATE ROOM!!!!! No regard for the rest of us, and Hunter’s management did NOTHING to rein them in. I wanted to be moved, but the others in my party said it was okay. But it wasn’t and just got louder. The final straw was as they were leaving, they said their goodbyes in the same room, inching their way outward. They stood within inches of a party of eight which had just received their first course and were almost touching them bodily, laughing and ignoring anyone else. Rudeness was NOT appreciated. I will be sure to ask for “quiet” seating next time. It was really remarkable that the restaurant management did NOTHING TO KEEP THE CHAOS CONTROLLED so EVERYONE could have had a good dining experience.

The food was delicious. I had the filet and augratin potatoes with the table side salad. The steak was so tender and cooked perfectly. Our waitress was outstanding and took very good care of us. WE sat right next to the fireplace so it was a nice romantic evening for my hubby and me!

We went for my sons 18 birthday. The food was really really good. Our only complaint was it took so long to even get our salad. Our reservation was at 6:30 we didn’t get our salad until 8:00. Drinks took long too. So a little quicker on getting those things. Our waiter was very nice and food delicious.

We booked for the right time .. parking was good and not real crowded when we got there. A large table was in front of us, but the server and her helpers did a great job in getting our food to us. We will definitely book again and will bring friends with us next time.

Went during restaurant week so the value was great. Very tasty steak and potato, great mixed drinks. They would benefit with a remodel though. Chairs were rickety and tables dated. Overall not bad.

selections and pricing were very good. My sirloin steak was fattier than anticipated, but otherwise good. They had some trouble keeping up with clean glasses and serve ware, but mostly good experience. Appreciated the three different pricing/menu options.

We liked the promptness and friendliness when we arrived for our reservation. Still love the salad that is prepared for you at the table for you to decide exactly what you want or do not want added to your salad. It is a great value for $20 for Restaurant Week dinner. Some of us had to take food home. Love the chocolate dessert; it's so rich and scrumptious!

My husband and I dined here for restaurant week for lunch and had the Angus sirloin 1/2 lb. Burger and it was delicious! Came with soup and yummy fries. Service was quick and friendly. It is a little dark inside, some more lighting would have been nice.

Hunter’s is an iconic steakhouse that’s been in San Diego for decades. However, while it is long standing, the decor shows its age and is dingy. Our server was attentive and helpful. Our food was so so, my prime rib was dry and so were my friends filet mignon. My drink was great and not too pricey.

Came for restaurant week. Nice menu; ordered BBQ beef ribs, Petite prime rib, sirloin and chicken with mushrooms. All were excellent. The sirloin was almost as tender and flavorful as a filet. Drinks were full strength and house wine is Woodbridge.

The best deal during restaurant week. $20 for a four-course steak dinner. We were seated right away, our server was friendly and attentive and the food was perfectly prepared. The fire burning in the fireplace was nice on a chilly evening. Hunter Steakhouse never disappoints. We left there very satisfied and very full.

There were 5 of us, all in our late 70's. The food, service, and ambiance were excellent. Perhaps what impressed me most was their willingness to see that we were comfortable. Our table happened to be right below their speaker for the music. We asked if they could turn it down. They couldn't, so they turned it off. We had a peaceful and most enjoyable evening.

I really am torn in my opinion about HSH. While each time we’ve been there I have had a terrific steak and overall decent meal, my spouse has not had the same experience. We have gone twice now and each time they have either overcooked his steak or served the completely wrong cut. This last time our waiter had a difficult time with timing (you should never have to wait for a drink). So will we be back... probably not. Would I recommend? Probably, but with a disclaimer about their consistency.

Had a 5:30 reservation. Service was slow. We waiting 1 hour 20 min for our food. Tables that came in after us were served before us. When the food came, 2 of the steaks were not cooked to order. We didn’t send the food back worried of how long we would have to wait for new food.
Carrot cake was compted due to the wait but it wasnt good. Cold, out of the fridge & tasteless.
