Came for happy hour and dinner afterwards. They started charging us full price for drinks after we sat down without even notifying us. Food and service were pretty good and the view is beautiful.
What a great place! Would eat there everyday :)
Always an excellent meal. Been coming to Huggos for over 15 years and have never been disappointed. Beautiful sunset views, delicious food and excellent service!
Huggo’s is my absolute favorite place on the Kona coast. And our waiter Joe, was fantastic! Highly recommend! Must try the Classic Mai Tai and mahi mahi!
Very nice sunset dinner overlooking the water. Server was very attentive, and our food quality was enjoyable by all. Definitely a reservation for dinner is a must. Would return and recommend, even if just having a drink or an app at the bar as well.
Beautiful view, good food, pleasant service. We so love this restaurant for the view and the food. My cocktail, a Negroni, was not up to the usual delicious concoction I've become accustomed to from this place. This drink earned a C- from me.
Our server worked hard to do a good job and that is where an upgrade would make a difference. Being a great server does require attention and communication as well as subtlety and graciousness. The latter were a little lacking. Everyone has an off night. Our orders arrived as requested and we were able to split our check for the table. We really appreciated that. We give our server a B+.
We came into Huggo's from our frozen Minneapolis trip, leaving 9 degree snowy weather of April behind, to have an anniversary dinner. What a 84 degree perfect evening . the famous waiter, Woody , took good care of us. Seated on the second floor over looking the crashing waves of Kailau bay, we watched the wonderful sunset happen while having cocktails. The live music from nextdoor at On The Rocks, was just the perfect back drop for dinner. The sashimi was a great appetizer, loved the garlic in the Cesar salad dressing, and the hook, line, and sinker fish entree was great. They thru a free wonderful chocolate mousse cake at us for dessert.
Overall, I'd give it a 5 star if the Tonic wasn't flat, but hey when momma ain't happy with her cocktail, poppa gotta say something. Woody and the rest of the staff were great, the ambiance of a sunset restaurant was right up there with my favorites from Florida, California, Rome, Cabo, and the Caribbean.
Note to self, if coming into town from the Waikaloa area, allow up to 100 minutes during the rush hour .
Visited on family vacation. Recommended by a tour guide on a trip the day prior.
The server was very bubbly and attentive. I don't remember her name, but she really loved her job. The view/food were all A+
Ate here 2 days in a row- first was Easter Sunday- had a fixed price dinner. Service was great, server knew her menu and wines, food was interesting and well prepared. A very good night.
Went back Monday and had a different experience- waiter was so laid back and interested in visiting with his friends in the bar that long periods went by before we saw him again- food was ok but not great, and little attention was paid to the details. All in all a disappointment. Still one of the all time great places to hang out and enjoy the ocean front setting
We had an incredible $5 mai tai at happy hour in their lounge and were shown to our table right on time. Service was excellent, view was perfect and it was a great spot for a date. Food was very good, but not the best I have had. Overall, slightly overpriced but worth it for the ambiance and service on a special occasion.
Oceanfront dining with great service and very good food. The arugula and strawberry salad was outstanding! Very fresh, local ingredients. The drinks and our waitress were great. Would go again anytime!
I love Huggos. Unfortunately, its not about the food there. I can always find something that I can order, but the quality just doesn't match the price. The REAL reason to go is for the VIEW and the environment. We find the staff friendly although not always knowledgeable because of turnover. Did I mention the VIEW. The waves lapping under your feet, salt air, ocean breeze. Forget the food go for the ambiance. Grab your kids, sweetie, friend, or Grandma and head to Huggos. Both on the Rocks and the more formal dining area are spectacular.
Nice water side table. Good food, however the sizzling shrimp was overcooked but the lobster flatbread was wonderful. Terrific Kona coffee cheesecake too! We really enjoyed our dinner!
Birthday dinner for hubby during a recent weekend getaway in Kona. Hubby has hearing issues and we were very concerned about the live music. Hostess led us to a wonderful table on the lanai - we could hear the music in the background, but we were far enough away that it didn't affect hubby's hearing and we were able to enjoy an evening with conversation.
Waiter was very good in his recommendations, both for drinks and for dinner entrees. I had made note that we were celebrating the birthday (I saw it on the hostess' notes) but the waiter didn't seem to have gotten the message. Regardless I made a comment when I took the check (Oh no, it's his birthday dinner so I am paying) and the waiter hustled off to surprise him with a birthday cheesecake. Unfortunately it was Kona Coffee Cheesecake - which I'm sure is wonderful - but neither of us likes coffee.
All in all, a nice dinner.
Amazing outdoor table steps from the ocean and delicious food!
Wonderful meal on the patio, accompanied by the ocean waves!
This was my birthday lunch. We had the perfect table at the corner of the outside deck overlooking the rocks and ocean. Great service and delicious food made it a meal to remember.
Awesome food and amazing service. Thanks for making a special evening so great!
Excellent food, views and ambiance. Huggo's was a good choice for dinner on our last night in Hawai'i for all those reasons. For those in our group that eat fish and meat, the food was excellent and the views and good vibes from our server made our night. As every where in Hawai'i, however, the vegetarian options are limited and uncreative. I challenge all the restaurants in Kailua-Kona to step up their game and start getting creative with vegetarian options! It can be done!
We went to Huggo’s on our last night of vacation. It had rained all day so we weren’t sure if this open dining venue would work out. But they had rolled down transparent shades to keep diners and tables dry. Then in the middle of our delicious dinner, the rain stopped, the shades went up and we were treated to the best sunset of the week. The flank steak was tender and cooked perfectly. Service was gracious with aloha spirit. Wine list is large. Great place!
The place has been around for years. It’s very nice to see it doing so well, it takes a Cheif like Cheif Fuji to make it the best in Kona.
Celebrating our 38th Wedding anniversary. Every year that we come to Hawaii we have our special dinner at Huggo’s. Wonderful food and great views. Always happy to have a meal here never disappoints.
We are locals. I made a reservation in advance. I called to make sure we had a table near the water. We were seated at the worst table possible.
I J our waiter was amazing! He worked hard to take great care of us.
very good service, excellent atmosphere , fair food.
We were at Huggo’s for my husband birthday celebration and it was wonderful. We watched the sunset, sipping on the Mai Tai and enjoying the delicious food. Highly recommended.
Awesome location and great food! Service was attentive and efficient
It has become one of our favorite restaurant’s and we always make it one of our stops during each visit
Love this place. Great food, and our server, Woody was the best server we have ever had at ANY restaurant .
Marlie was a fun personality, knowledgeable of menu items and their content, as well as attentive and well-organized.
It would be difficult to find a bad table to view the amazing sunsets from. Spectacle location for beautiful beach view.
Food was very good, while pricey, that was reflected in quality and creative flavors.
Admired manager (or owner) asking about if meal was satisfactory, going to each table.
This is a good place in downtown Kona. It doesn't compare to the big resturants up north but for a townie it is good, but pricey. The food took awhile to get to us, but it was served well and hot. Go, just don't expect the Fairmont.
A great spot on the waterfront. Our waiter was very helpful. Wife had the ravioli and thought the pasta was a bit "tough". I had a freash fist and thought it was very good. The steaming shrimp appetizer was impressive!
We just celebrated my husband's 70th birthday at Huggo's. The service and the friendliness of both the patrons and the servers is always exemplary, casual and generous! Such a fun place, especially when LT Smooth and his great band are playing!
Site is perfect, overlooking the water! Service was fantastic and the food was quite good.
Location is obviously fantastic. The ambiance was ruined a bit by competing live music come by from Huggo’s bar and On the Rocks. The sautéed mushroom appetizer was very good. We both order the opakapaka in each of the two different preparations. The flavor profiles were very good for each however the fish was quite over cooked.
Island Johnny did an amazing job as our waiter
Good food and drinks. Little pricy for the simple fish plates.
