Thanks to Huggo’s on the water location, and its commitment to “aloha” service, diners at Huggo’s will savor influences from Japanese, Chinese and Southeast Asian ports of call. This family owned restaurant has become an island tradition since offering its first seafood platter 45 years ago.
Huggo’s on the Rocks, our next door neighbor, is the perfect location for oceanside cocktails and light fare.

The food and service were both excellent! We tried numerous appetizers that were all very good, and our entrees were excellent! Our seating was next to the water with outstanding views. Truly an exceptional evening!
Felt rushed by our waiter. Our food was tasty with the exception of my salad. Lettuce was warm.
Great food, great views, and perfect setting for our anniversary. Service was excellent and very helpful.
Fantastic view. Sits right on the ocean. The food was amazing with lots of variety. My one complaint is with Huggo’s on the Rocks right next door the band playing was decently loud where we were sitting. Not loud enough that you had to raise your voice to be heard, but loud enough to be noticed.
Thank you for a lovely evening!
Friendly staff. Great prime rib and fish. A bit pricey, but worth it. Ask for an outside ocean front table.
Fun location. Delicious menu. Nice servers.
We ordered the clams, a flat bread, and shared the lobster ravioli. Every single item down to the complimentary bread and herbed butter, was amazing. Our server Woody was refreshingly genuine, friendly, and he absolutely made our experience. They were busy, hustling like a well oiled machine and even when other customers were being difficult, everyone appeared to just keep on rocking. This place is a gem! Ask for Woody 👌🏽
Food is not great at all. Service is good.
This place was truly amazing. Of all our restaurants we went out, this place was by far our favorite. This is a must stop for anyone.
The food and drinks were phenomenal!!! The bartender makes fabulous drinks and it super friendly. Our server “Island Johnny” was entertaining, attentive and gave wonderful recommendations. We will be back!
This is the prettist place for dinner in the islands sit down below outside
Jungle Juice was awesome. Live music next door. Went at Sunset
Enjoyed a great meal, at a great location, with great sunset views. Service was excellent and attentive without being intrusive. The food was excellent: the freshly-caught fish was cooked properly and presented nicely. The salads were also excellent, featuring local ingredients.
Great server, wonderful atmosphere and delicious food. Only problem is that it is very noisy, where you can’t have a conversation. Huggos will be our go to restaurant if we can get in.
It was very good atmosphere. Foods were delicious. If the waiter pick the dishes later, it will be better. It was too fast to bring them up although we were still eating.
The service was ok. We were seated for almost 10 minutes before we were acknowledged. We asked to lv E to a seat by the ocean when one was made available and were denied. Not happy, especially when the party seated at said table were all on their phones the whole time! Once we were given water, the service was excellent. The waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. The food was delicious! The mushrooms were cooked to perfection and the short ribs were to die for! The sesame seed crusted ahi was cooked perfectly!
Nice setting being able to sit by the water but the food is just an overpriced tourist trap, $42 for a basic pasta dish!? I’m sure there are better spots around with nice setting and normal prices. We won’t be going there again.
Can’t beat the views and the food was great.
We were celebrating our anniversary. We walked up 10 minutes past our reservation time due to a longer walk than we thought from happy hour and were greeted with a smile and taken to our table right away. We had a breathtaking view. Our server was wonderful and the food delicious. It was a Sunday night and there was live music at Huggos on the Rocks next door which provided great music to listen to but we could enjoy our nice table at Huggos without worrying about people dancing all around it. It provided great people watching as well. We ordered a bunch of food to share and all of it was so good! Sizzling Brussels and cauliflower and sashimi for apps. Arugula salad, roasted garlic flatbread and the lobster/crab ravioli for dinner. We had a Mai tai and the Chee hoo tini and were yummy. Last of all, the lime pie. Light and creamy and a great way to end the meal. Thanks Huggos for the special evening! We will definitely be back!
The restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. We felt we had the premiere table. We were visiting from Oregon.
Must go! Amazing waterfront views, great cocktails, and delicious food! Absolutely loved the seafood ravioli. Would definitely recommend!
Huggo’s wouldn’t seat us in a table because it was set for 5, then they proceeded to seat a 3-top there. We also were 3. The wine I chose from the list was, after nearly 20 minutes of searching, was declared out. So I chose a different overpriced bottle. The food was mostly mediocre. My amber jack was seriously overcooked the presentation a bit bland. My son’s steak was similarly overcooked. The only positive surprise was the abundant (but pricey) Brussel sprouts in the sprout/cauliflower mix which was thankfully much more sprout than cauliflower. The server was pleasant but slow and apparently stretched thin. Mi’s just down the strip was soooooo much better. I’d skip next time.
Nice foods and good ocean view.
An excellent eatery for many years in Kona. They keep old favorites on the menu, and constantly introduce new creations. I have come here with groups of 20, or with just the two of us - they never fail to create a memorable meal.
This restaurant was my first dinner experience in Hawaii. I am currently in Hawaii for the first time, celebrating my honeymoon. I had mentioned that in my reservation notes and this restaurant and the employees went above and beyond to make the celebration memorable and special. From the initial congrats to offering to take photos and the complimentary dessert, the staff went above and beyond for us. The view alone was worth the dining experience. We witnessed an amazing and beautiful sunset. The food was delicious and the speciality drinks??? PERFECTION. I would highly recommend this restaurant for numerous reasons - the view, the food, the service, and the value! GO VISIT AND ENJOY ALL THAT IT HAS TO OFFER.
Great food. Wonderful service. Awesome view
Great food, service and location. We had another memorable meal!! Can’t wait to go back on our next trip!!
Oysters were amazing as was the cioppino. Little things as far as the service goes though. I had to ask for more water on three different occasions, appetizer cutlery was cleared at the end of the meal. Signature dessert us a great sharer.
The setting and the ambiance was great. The staff was very gracious and made my friend’s birthday a special occasion.
We went there twice for our family brunch and dinner. Both time their service was friendly and very kind, and food was tasty. For the evening, especially around the sunset time, I recommend to make a reservation. Thank you for a great service!
Always good. Good ambiounce.
Just don't like driving back to Kailua, reminds me of driving into Waikiki
The view and service were excellent. The food was not as good as previous stays. The fresh fish didn't taste very good and in previous stays it was amazing.
Absolutely superb food and the view of the ocean and sunset was spectacular! First rate service as well. Highly recommended!
Great food !!! but took 20 minutes to be attending
Our party of 4 was seated straight ahead when you walk past the hostess station, and right next to the ocean. The open air was wonderful, could hear waves and watch the beautiful sunset through the clouds and vog and even captured some great photos of it reflected off the ocean.
We had a wonderful waiter, who was very good at describing, as well as making suggestions.
Our food was beautifully presented and appropriately hot/cold. The Poke appetizer was delicious.
We ordered 4 different entrees, and highly recommend all. This will become our new favorite when we visit the island bi-annually.
Wonderful table with attentive service and very good food, the only issue was the radio music the played on the speakers was covering the live music from the nearby restaurant On The Rocks.
Always a Big Island tradition for us.
