I took my husband to House of Oliver for his birthday dinner. We both have a deep appreciation for a good bottle of wine, so I thought this place would be good but maybe a little different than a typical restaurant. It was exactly that! It is by definition a "wine lounge," so if you are looking for a typical restaurant-type atmosphere, this is not that. It was a really a fun place for adults to gather and share wine, good food and good music. We were there on a Monday night, but it is my understanding that they have live music on either Friday or Saturday nights, or both. Although their menu is limited, what they have to offer is excellent! My husband and I each had a wine flight, 2 oz. glasses of three different wines which were all delightful, and we enjoyed a roasted beet salad, a warm Brussels sprout salad, lamb meatballs, and steak bruschetta -- all wonderful! We really felt like we had a fun evening out; we would definitely go back.
Great wine, decent food. Server was nice and knowledgeable, but more than once interrupted our conversation (while we were in mid-sentence) to push us to order. Second time we have had her and hoping not to have her again. We really enjoy this place if we could just be able to chill without server pushing her own agenda/schedule.0
Always a welcomed and comfortable evening. Thank you Matthew and staff!
It was a great restaurant! The only bummer was that we went for the jazz band and had no clue that you had to request special seating to see them. Overall, a fun atmosphere, though!
Good place for wine and listing to jazz. The appetizers are pretty good too!
This was our second time coming here and the first time eating dinner here. Overall we loved the experience and the food. The live music was a welcome bonus, even though there was a minimal cover charge. The wine selection was excellent as well. We are from Folsom and some of our local places in this class could take a book out of Oliver's book.
Nothing could be better. A very entertaining wine bar with superior food. The bar is a combination of high bar stools with tables and lounge chairs with small tables inside as well as an outside patio area with sofas, love seats and chairs. You are surrounded by music, live after 8:00 PM. But it is the exceptional food that is most important. Everything we had was exceptional. The House specializes in small plates. Each was excellent. The smoked salmon bruchetta was covered with remarkably fresh salmon slices laying on a cream cheese, capers, onion bed covering a toasted slice of Italian bread. The Caesar salad was made cold, crisp full romaine leaves with an outstanding thick dressing and Parmesan cheese and fresh croutons. The chicken Pannini had an abundant amount of a warm chicken breast with a thick melted Gruyere cover with Pesto. The grilled cheese was thick with Gruyere cheese and avacado. The filet medallions were perfectly cook and exactly tender with a horseradish drizzle. Perfect!
This was our first time here....Great service, wine, and food! I highly recommend!
Friendly staff, good food and wine. Great place to enjoy conversation
The atmosphere, wine, food and service were great. Rachel and Cody were awesome.
Matt Oliver, co-owner, makes a point to meet and greet the guests. A very nice touch! All of the staff was very attentive and friendly. The one lady band played and vocalized some great old songs. And the food and wine were exceptional.
We picked House of Oliver at the last minute to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Even though we showed up just as the cook had finished up, they threw together a couple of delicious salads for us. The wine was fantastic, even though our budget kept us at the lower end of the list. What we loved the most was the staff - they are like a big family that has invited you over for drinks and delicious food. It was an amazing experience for our celebration.
Fabulous bottle of wine, a nice salad and great entertainment on the patio. Awesome Saturday night.
Love love love this place.. Looked forever for soft jazz live music and great food, earlier in the evening is better than later, crowd changes into the late hours.
My second time here and great wine, food and music on the weekend.
Still fairly new in the neighborhood, this local wine bar is the perfect spot to unwind after a long week at work or for an intimate chat between friends. Great jazz music with outdoor seating just outside the door. Great wine, great food and great entertainment make for a great evening close to home.
The House of Oliver is a great venue for music and wine. Inside and outside seating meet the needs of most. Noisy but relaxing environment with great service. The owners and employees are very friendly and knowledgeable about the wine list. I think the food and beverage prices are a bit on the high side. Overall a great place for a nice evening with great food, wine and people. I have been several times and will definitely return.
Fun filled space filled with great people!! This place just seems to be where quality people hang out and enjoy life. The service was great with good recommendations on what to pair. The Oliver brothers came over and introduced themselves to us and checked to ensure everything was good and we were enjoying ourselves. It reminded my husband and I of the way people used to operate businesses with a personal touch, elegance and class!
Fun place, but reserving a table can get you interesting results, such as two lounge chairs by the door with a very narrow table. Thankfully they were able to accommodate us and move our table on our visit because we were going to be ordering a lot (food and wine). I would think they would have a broader selection of wines and would change up there menu a little. Consistency is good but not if you're adventurous and want to try new things.
Super delicious. Wine was great appetizers were amazing. We will be back for sure
My first impression of House of Oliver was good. Great wine selection. Food is just okay. Completely over priced for the food that are serving. Extremely small portions. Seating arrangements are terrible. They sat us in the corner by the entrance to the bathrooms. We had contact traffic bumping into us, and the table. They should be ashamed of themselves seating people in that corner. Especially for the price.
My husband Kyle and I went here on Saturday 2/13/16. We absolutely loved it!
Tiny bubbles flight
Nut crusted Brie
I loved everything! The Thai meatballs are pretty heavy so I recommend getting a lighter appetizer to compliment it.
The ambiance is great! Loved the brick and wood interior with more dim lighting. The band they had was awesome! We thought it was a great blend of jazzy blues and modern elements.
We got to meet the brothers that own it and they were so friendly and kind. You can tell they love what they are doing.
Thank you House of Oliver for a wonderful date night. We will be back!
We had such a great evening out with friends. Our group was only going to consist of 8 and quickly turned into 12; Kyle & Mathew Oliver took care of it right away for us! Very accommodating and pleasant hosts! Will definitely be back soon :)
My girlfriends and I were so excited to try this place out. The service was horrible and the server seemed inconvenienced by everything. The seating was very awkward, they put us right by the front door and left it open making it very cold. When we would ask to close the front door, they did it begrudgingly, only to open it again 5min later. To make matters worse, for a wine bar, they were out of 2 of the 5 wine flights as well as various other selections. The server checked on us twice in 2 hours, clearing only half the empty plates and never asking if we'd like to order more or refill waters. Facebook bragged that night that the owners would be there, making the night extra fun for customers. Defintely not the case. We will NOT be going back, nor would I recommend this place to anyone.
The owners r relaxed and nice to converse with. The vibe is perfect! My wife and I loved our evening at House of Oliver. A return visit is inevitable.
