There was an accident on freeway so I called to inform them we were running late. They said okay no problem. I had made the resv for my boyfriend birthday. When I got there they couldn't find my name or reservation. They said okay we can just seat you. Which of course I know I can be seated but that's not why I made the reservation. So I asked if they saw my reservations with my requests or if they were just seating me? She said they were just going to seat me. I explained that i wanted a nice spot by the window with a view for 2 , like on my reservation and that we were there for his birthday . They seemed a bit irritated and the young hostess with the dark hair and nice neat bun rolled her eyes as she stared at me. She doesn't seem to have the patience required for such a job. We were seated at a table meant for 4 not exactly what I wanted but decided okay I know I was a little late because of the accident. time to order they were out of 10 oz filet mignon. We felt very rushed to place our order , which he was deciding on what to order since he had his mind set on the filet mignon. The food was good as always. I was just not happy at all with how we were received and treated like we were a bother or asking for too much. Even when I went back to ask about a birthday candle dessert I received a stare down from the young hostess as I spoke with the other hostess. Such behavior is not becoming for your establishment and the prices we pay to enjoy the remarkable food and hopefully service to match. The fact that I had to again ask about the birthday brulee isn't what I would expect from you guys at all. It may sound silly but it wasn't a smooth evening as it should have been .
I've been going here since 1979. I love the new menu and the quality of the food.
Restaurant is located at the scenic San Leandro Marina. There is adequate parking. Menu contains many choices of seafood and prime rib. The service is excellent. I highly recommend it for a small group party. We just held a delightful retirement party over there.
I was surprised to receive an email with a 2 for 1 deal. This was almost unbelievable so we had to come to make sure it was true. My date and I were pleasantly surprised. Our waiter Victor made a lot of good recommendations and the food was delicious. We will definitely return again and again. Great food, excellent customer service and great ambiance are perfect combinations to return.
Nice lunch, server was great!
Excellent food and service. Entirely too loud
Busy time of year so we decided to go to dinner for my birthday. They had a bar buyout which is a large party that takes over at least a third of the restaurant. We did have to wait 15minutes past our reservation and contemplated leaving but it’s always been a great restaurant. Anyway after we were seated it went extremely well. The server was friendly efficient and as always the food fantastic
The smell upon opening the front door and during our wait to be seated reminded me of restrooms in a dive bar. Don't know what's going on, but we waited away from the area. The container of clorox cleaning wipes on the hostess stand didn't add to the appeal. Have been here several times over the years and the quality of sevice and food has gone south while the prices have gone further north! The tired interior is something that we lived with, but won't be coming back in the future.
We were there for a Sunday brunch/lunch. There was a steady crowd but not excessive busy. Food was pretty good, but service was a little lacking. Not bad, but not attentive, would forget items and had to make multiple trips to acquire everything. Two extra trips for soup spoons. Again not bad service, but could have been better. This is a nice occasional place to go.
The waiter was not good at all he took a really long time to take our order got our orders wrong and never brought out some of our order even after we reminded him. I've had eaten their three other times and use to really like the food and service. I don't think I'll ever go back again. A terrible night out for me and my friends.
When we checked in on time we were told that there was one group ahead of us. There was only 5 in our party. My parents drove all the way from Monterey so we could celebrate my dad's birthday. I mentioned this in my reservation, however we were seated in a corner near the kitchen instead of a nice view by the window. The entire staff was somewhat "aloof" so we never got that special occasion feeling. Even when we left nobody said good-bye or have a nice day. It was strange. Bottom line, the food, and views are really good, which is why I recommend this restaurant. I had the Eggs Benedict which was the best I've ever had. However, the calamari was not as fresh and crispy as I've had at Horatio's before, but everyone else said it was good. I ordered the bloody Mary bar, but had to ask for a second drink and didn't get it until we were almost ready to leave. Honestly, if the service and attention to detail (ambiance) was better this place would be an outstanding restaurant and well worth the money you spend. If you enjoy great food and views and don't care if the staff is aloof, then this is the place for you. If slow or below average service is going to ruin your experience then you may want to consider going elsewhere. I will go back, but not as often as I would if the ambiance was better.
For the most part, I loved this restaurant.
Although the sole had some nasty bones left in the dish, the chef made it right and the experience was very pleasant. I would definitely go back and would recommend to others.
I ordered the Coho salmon, well prepared and the reduced Bing cherry sauce boast the salmon!
Horatio's proved to be a great location for our holiday lunch. Great service and attention (Shauna, our wait person was wonderful). We were allowed to linger and enjoy our visit and the view. Food was excellent and this restaurant provided us a great time!
As a frequent customer of both Horatio's and Skates, I was extremely disappointed during this visit.
I had received an email inviting me to make a reservation and dine within a certain period of time and I would receive $50 off of the bill. When I checked-in upon arrival, I confirmed with the hostess that my reservation was linked to this offer. She said she would ask the manager. I never received and answer from her.
While waiting for our drinks, pending our reserved table becoming ready, I confirmed with the cocktail server about my reservation being linked to this offer. She also said she would ask the manager. I never received and answer from her.
When we were seated for dinner (we had reservations) we were placed the furthest away from the kitchen and bar . . . in the far (NW) corner next to the outside exit.
Our waitress was VERY slow in bringing the food, and and drinks/wine . . .there were long 5-10 minute delays in between courses and drink orders arriving. In fact ,when it was time to leave, after waiting 10 minutes for the check, we got up to seek her out and walked to the bar area and she was no where to be found.
I usually give a nice tip, but n this case I couldn't give anything to her.
Only suggestion for improvement is choices for wine by the glass. Need more California and Italian vintners on the list
My girlfriend and I have been to Horatio's many times. It never gets old to us ! The menu is diverse and delicious. My girlfriend had a Prime Rib cooked to perfect. The cut of meat was HUGE ! I ordered Beef Wellington (For the 2nd time) and it was spectacular. It was a big plate so I had leftovers ! The bread they serve is unbelievable ! It's a warm garlic bread which is the best table bread I have ever had ! For a salad we had a pea salad that was great. The waitress was excellent and served us the way a couple want's to be served ! Thank's Horatio's !
We had to pick up someone at the Oakland Airport in the evening, and since Horatio’s is just 10 minutes away from the Airport, we decided to have dinner there, then head over to the airport. This turned out to be a very good decision in that the food was very good, service was prompt and friendly, and the prices were reasonable. When it came time to go to the airport, it was an easy route (no freeway) to the airport.
Great food, attentive servers and a lovely view of the marina.
Our go-to restaurant! You can count on any dish on the menu to be well prepared by this excellent kitchen
Celebrated my birthday at Horatio’s this evening and enjoyed every moment; every bite. We come to this restaurant for most special occasions and are never disappointed.
We spent Thanksgiving evening here & had a lovely meal. The food was amazing, great service & friendly waiting staff. Thanks so much!
This place used to be a favorite but we had a dismal experience trying to take special company out for a nice meal. It took forever to even get the first ice water and all of the food was substandard except the prime rib. Follow up service was equally poor. The decor has not been maintained and the bathroom was dirty. Hoping for a resurrection of this once classic beach side restaurant.
For the overall value, I would rate Horatio’s 4-stars. The food is good, but depending on who your assigned server is, the service is somewhat inconsistent - ask for Miguel, he’s an awesome waiter! Good family restaurant with reasonable prices.
Thanksgiving dinner, Chad was the server and da bomb! Turkey dinner came out dry and lukewarm, other entrees were outstanding! Great ambience, high energy holiday.
Horatio’s is a place I visit when I need to eat a good meal n relax with an amazing water front view perfect for a quiet romantic date or a business meeting, or Maybe just like me.... no more than because I deserve Good.! Alone or with company. This is a nice retreat for me
Have not been to Horatio's in couple of years...
Still holding up well
We went for Thanksgiving-3 of us
Enjoyed the food a lot--but for the price--dessert
should have been included...
especially on this special holiday and "extra" would have been nice
Will go back--it is a very good seafood restaurant too....
A lovely meal for Thanksgiving!
Our 4th year in a row going, and hope for a 5th! The Coho Salmon is delicious, however it is prepared!
So disappointed. Went on Thanksgiving. The ad looked great, when we arrived no decorations on the tables, only a few tables had table clothes, and the staff was not super daunting as they always should be. So sad.....
For the past three Thanksgivings, my friend John and I have eaten dinner at Horatio's. The food and service (our waitress was Leanne) are always excellent, and the view of the San Leandro marina and San Francisco Bay remarkable.
Our family went there for Thanksgiving Lunch. It was perfect. We had amazing service. Our server Leanne was the best! Food was really good. Loved the pumpkin martini. Holiday menu was spot on. Will for sure plan another event there.
Yvonne was a great server! Our first time here we had lack luster service while sitting at the bar. We figured we would try it again for my birthday, very happy we did! Food is good. Like my lavender cosmo as well. We live close and will be back
Horatio’s is our “go to”restaurant on this side of the bay. Every guest we have ever entertained got a trip to this restaurant. Dependable food and service. Lovely view.
Excellent food. I had the chicken. It tasted wonderful.
We had an early Thanksgiving brunch. Our waitress was very attentive. We’ve dined here for birthdays and Father’s Day and the food is always delicious.
Fantastic attentive service!!! Every dish was delectable!!!!
Decor needs updating, other than that food was good.
