All the fish and crab was well over cooked and tasted old. The prime rib was just a roast and unseasoned. The buffet was $75.00 per person and not worth it. A true tourist trap. We won’t be back.

Service was outstanding. Salad bar need more local selection, desserts were warm and melting even though our reservation was at openng., the crab was very dry and shrunk half the size. The ends of the prime rib was still raw and bloody. It was not worth $75. Disappointingly and sadly The buffet has gone down hill.

I ate at Honu’s last June and it was amazing. Last night, however, the dinner was lacking in taste and freshness. The crab legs were cold and tasted old and stale. It was like they had been frozen or previously cooked. The prime rib was good but not amazing. At one point they ran out of plates. When food is good, I’m willing you pay a high price. But last night was not worth the high price tag.

First of all, that buffet was not worth $70. The food selection was so little. The crab legs was tiny and warm. The prime rib was super cold. What happened to the old seafood buffet??? There was so many selections and the price was reasonable. Now it’s less selections and the price is unreasonable. NEVER ever going back there again.

My family and I always enjoy going to Honu. We go every time we get the chance to. King Kam is where my wedding reception took place 8 years ago. Food and service is always good. Wished they had more dessert options… A little pricey although all worth it. Also wishing there was live music but there was a brewery fest going so was missing the Hawaiian live music. Maybe next time.

I was expecting for a sumptous prime rib and hot crab legs but so disappointed with a hard cold steak and cold crab legs. The menu selection should be changed to a Marriot level buffet like "Hawaii Calls." The desserts are pitiful. I can bake those cookies at home. You should serve more appetizing and mouth watering food and desserts that satisfies the price we pay to dine at your buffet dinner. The drinks (soda) should be included with the meal. Why charge $4.00 for each drink? Also, it's gross to see flies flying around the poke servingntable. I took my sister here for a delightful dinnerThe server only check on us once in a while maybe because they know we are locals. Kamaaina should be treated the same as the tourist. Kamaaina will more likely dine with you again and stay at your hotel than the tourist

Tempura was overly battered, cold, and soggy. Crab was so over cooked it was dry and stringy. Fish was over cooked, super dry and tough. Mousse was overworked and tasted like Butter. Poke was good. The quality was that of a cheap asian buffet, but at the price of a high quality Vegas buffet.

Delicious fresh seafood and lots of choice. Deserts excellent. No one asked us for a drinks order so we didn’t get cocktails, virtually no clearing of table so we put things on an empty table so we had room put new plates on the table. Onion rings and tempura shrimp delicious but cold, overall we had s great time, just a couple of improvements could be made.

We booked a reservation for 2, I assumed it may be a bit busy since it’s a buffet but was not the case. It was okay good. The prime rib could be better, there was crab legs only, and then poke. I wish there was a bit more variety. The desserts were only okay. I really really wish they labeled what was what so we didn’t waste anything we ended up not wanting. They have a build your own pasta station which is nice.

Had the prime rib and fish buffet. Clam chowder was the best I had in a long time! Full of clams & potatoes, creamy base. Salad bar was simple. Fish station was plentiful with a good variety. Prime rib was good. Fried fish was just ok. Biggest problem was the desserts. Altho they had a good variety, not one was edible or barely delicious. Tasted like left over Sara Lee cakes. Tiramisu (I think that was it) tasted like chalk. Then the bill came & it was $75pp! What a shocker! I know fish is very expensive, but I was there more for the prime rib. I’ll know next time. Service was okay, but got scarce as it started to get busy. Live music (Mike). Was a nice touch.

At $75pp I would expect a higher quality of food. Sure, it’s an all-you-can-eat buffet… just not sure why anyone would want to eat more than one serving of “cafeteria food”. We did appreciate the seafood salads, prime rib and sashimi, but everything else was sub-par, including the juvenile-sized crab legs. And it was New Years Eve - they could have at least busted out tablecloths and a few candles!

I am not a tourist. I live on the island and took a chance on a convenient, stress free, relaxing Christmas experience for my wife and I. She is a recent arrival from Ukraine and is happily on her way to US citizenship. Being a local resident, I knew in advance to have little hope for an extraordinary experience, unfortunately I waited to late to firm up plans at other locations where an entirely different experience could be expected. Unless absolutely stuck with no other options, do NOT dine here. I can’t say much about then”service” as it was completely non-existent. Even during this breakfast, brunch-type buffet, even the coffee or any other beverage service is not provided. You are on your own. And the coffee you are able to serve yourself is terrible. The food? Just awful. Lowest bidder bulk frozen supplier, pre-packaged leftovers. Anywhere on the US mainland, you could randomly pull of the highway/freeway and find a 24 hour roadside service restaurant with far better food. Just awful “food.” Along with watered down cheap, self-serve, coffee, orange-colored water/“juice,” non-existent service…… you get the idea. This is just a horrible “restaurant” completely unworthy of a beautiful location. And for just the 2 of us, this embarrassingly bad experience was just $70.00 +. Stay away. Until management gets a clue that there is a need to dramatically up it’s game to at least keep somewhat in line with the exorbitant fees it is charging for BAD food, BAD beverages, non-existent service, STAY FAR AWAY. ANY other option would be a better one.

The food was plentiful and many choices available. The main things, the crab legs and prime rib were excellent and endless. The hostess was charming and the server was polite, attentive and friendly. The desserts were varied and tasty and Santa showed up for a visit. The restaurant was clean and organized and the view of the marina and the Luau was very nice. Overall a great experience with no complaints to note.

For the price, this really isn't worth it. The crab is nice, but they don't give you the correct tools to eat it so you can't really remove most of it from the shell. The prime rib is extremely mediocre. Bland so you have to use the horseradish sauce or the au jus for any flavor. It's also cold. The salad bar is minimal with two bad choices of dressing. The bread is packaged rolls. No fruit whatsoever which as a local we can't understand. Why wouldn't the restaurant in Kona not have fresh local fruit? The desserts were cafeteria-level, nothing special, and tasted store-bought. On the positive, that Friday the clam chowder was very good. The fresh ahi sashimi was excellent. Poke, shrimp, mussels, and imitation crab salad were good (although why have imitation crab when you have real crab?). All this for $75 per person. Does it sound worth it? The worst thing is when I asked about the correct utensils to eat the crab, the manager told me they were "thrown away during the pandemic and never replaced." What kind of an answer was that? I had to ask for a wetnap that they didn't have available onsite. All drinks are extra, including fountain soda. Basically, that's about $200 for two people. This is not a buffet worth $200 per couple. Now the service - not good. We had to move our used plates off the table to make room as the servers seems more interested in talking to each other than busing, I get it, I'm sure tips on a buffet are not good, especially when the food is just so-so. Bottom-line, if you're a visitor, there are better restaurants to go to for these prices in downtown Kona (or go to a great place like Keei Cafe in Kealakekua for less $$, better service and amazing food). Honestly, this review is more for the restaurant and the hotel - DO BETTER. For $75 give tourists or even Kamaaina a meal that's worth it. What you're offering is not it and you have to know that. If you're staying at the King Kam, go somewhere else, somewhere good.
